    Face mites look kind of like tardigrades. But a bit more complicated. And without the back legs. I'd love your opinion Oliver.

    • @Microbehunter
      @Microbehunter  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Well, as a matter of fact when tardigrades were first discovered, some people thought that they were indeed related to the spiders and mites, because tardigrades also have 8 legs. So there is this similarity to face mites. It turned out, however, that tardigrades are a separate category.

      @@Microbehunter Did I see that correctly?
      That's around $35,000 dollars???? DANGGGGG
      What magnification did you use there were we saw it in the oil swimming?
      I don't have that type of microscope, but I do have one that is designed more for working on surface mount electronics.
      It has an optical "zoom" of 300X.
      I think it will be enough to see these things. I just tried now, but I only used the tape on the eyes, forehead and behind the ears. I can see a lot of skin cells and tiny fibers. But no mites.
      Next time, I'll try the tweezers on the eye lashes thing.
      But I'm curious what magnification you used there?

    • @Microbehunter
      @Microbehunter  Před 2 měsíci

      @BlondieSL You can see them well with the 40x objective (400x mag) and max 60x objective. So you do not need a high magnification. So you can see them without problems with a EUR250 microscope as well. The cost of the microscope depends mostly on the objectives and other features that you chose. The cost can go up significantly more and also be significantly less. If you choose to equip the microscope with some highly special apochromatic objectives, then the price will explode yet more. If you choose standard achromatic ones, then the cost will be significantly lower. These microscopes do not come assembled out of the box, but you have to specify the features and optics that you want to have, and the choice is large.

    @Microbehunter Ersticken die Milben im Öl?

    • @Microbehunter
      @Microbehunter  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Nein, zumindestens nicht während ich sie beobachtetet habe. Sauerstoff O2 ist hydrophob und so ist Öl, daher sollte der Luftsauerstoff kein Problem haben durch das Öl zu diffundieren. Tatsächlich ist die Löslichkeit von Sauerstoff in Öl höher als in Wasser.

      As mostly "gals" use makeup on their faces, I have to wonder if these mites get onto the sponges and then transfer into the makeup container. hmmmm

      @@JudlexAlternateI suspect it's just that some people were not aware of all the creepy crawlies we have on us and kinda get squeamish when they can see it for themselves.
