    Nice to see other people making stuff like this for the CZ's. I'm definately considering the guide rod and spring. However I wanted to mention that some people showing 10K and much more round reviews have the plastic guide rod and it's the same. I think it's just made to be flexible and won't break. However if the metal rod is an improvement in performance it's worth it either way.

    I've always been surprised when, after spending up to $800. or even $1,000. for a new pistol, to find out on disassembly that it had a cheap, ten cent, plastic guide rod!
    And I ALWAYS replace them immediately. Usually order them (nearly always from the manufacturer's web site!) the same day I find them, and don't even "try out" the gun untill after the new metal guide rod is installed.

Thank you.

    Not sure I agree with this... CZ made the entire gun made out of metal except for the guide rod and grips. I doubt something like a guide rod was made out of plastic to be cheaper considering how relatively small it is. I'm hesitant to just go around changing the material just for fun considering how cheap and easy it is to replace this if it breaks.

    • @thejackbox
      @thejackbox Před 3 lety +13

      The guide rod contacts parts that are way more expensive than it is. Add on top of that, the designers intended each part to only have plastic rubbing against it which add to the stress on the barrel and slide. (I think I would rather the $3 guide rod wear out before the slide does) Just replace the guide rod when you change the spring and you should be good to go in my opinion.

      I have also heard that the polymer guide rod is supposed to flex absorbing some of the recoil. I think having a metal guide rod would make things worse, this is defiantly a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. you don't think a corporation considers the cost of a part when they're manufacturing tens of thousands ... or hundreds of thousands of units? The cost of every single part is a huge difference when you extrapolate it out to a full year. This is absolutely a cost saving measure. If they can get away with going cheaper without making the gun fail, they'll do it.

    I am looking for options for the guide rod and spring choices other than the OEM version; however, based on my research, the ideal recoil spring weight depends upon the power factor of the round you use. According to CGW, the way to find the proper spring weight is to measure the distance of the ejected round, with the sweet spot being somewhere between 6-8 ft. My understanding is that the CZ 75 SP-01 was most likely designed around the standard 9mm NATO round (124 gr at 1200fps) with a power factor of around 149 (depending on barrel length). So the OEM spring would already be pretty strong, no?? While the spec is hard to find, the consensus seems to be that the OEM spring is somewhere around #16 (your site lists the factory weight at #18). So you are advising a 20% increase over an already heavy spring? You mentioned fine tuning...What round does the extra power spring work well with? It seems that the OEM spring is already ideally set up for +P rounds, and after reading a little on this topic, it appears a lot of folks are going with a lighter spring to shoot standard pressure rounds... so what's the deal? I'm not an expert or an engineer, this is just an honest question based upon a lot of reading I've been doing. I'm still experimenting with the SP-01 but I'd like to cut the chase if someone has an answer...

    @44hawk28 Před 3 lety +2

    Just a suggestion, just a touch of CRC black brake Lube onto that guide rod. That will reduce any friction between that spring and that stainless steel guide rod to almost imperceptible. I like the design of the cz-75, I happen to have a cz75 variant in 40 Smith. Yes I do believe it's a more capable cartridge and the firearm that I have is more than comfortable when shooting it. And surprisingly the best thing for the trigger pull on my firearm, because it was the worst trigger I had ever seen in any of the variants, I had the grip frame and the internals electroless nickel, and it has the slickest trigger I have ever witnessed with standard Parts on any semi-auto. I think the tool steel would have been just as good for a guide rod. In a good anodized aluminum would have been more than appropriate. 316 stainless will work and you certainly shouldn't ever have a problem with it of any kind.
    And I hope that the engineer who thought that using plastic Raven phenolic resin was appropriate to put inside a firearm. It was like when Browning started putting the magazine safety and their firearms, made of plastic. That was stupidity.
    I can understand putting that no portion in the one guide rod for the purpose of making it a little bit lighter, but there was no reason to do that as for the spring function. It is the reason why you're having so much trouble trying to get it lined up. At least by my estimation. The other problem is you are not controlling the harmonics of the spring by necking it down in the center. The harmonics are just as important to keep under control as any other part of the spring function. I would have went with a straight operating spring guide.

We don't want plastic in our guns, do we? Oh no! Look, this won't improve performance, and it likely won't improve reliability. A guide rod isn't sitting there getting beat up, and there's certainly no "tension". Also heavier springs will cause your muzzle to dip and could cause short-stroking, especially if you have optics installed (additional weight on slide).
