- Although it's been out for a couple of years at this point, I've kept away from military aircraft until very recently. That all ended with the arrival of the OV-10 Bronco, the Panavia Tornado, and now the F-35. I guess you could say I'm making up for lost time. There's obiously a lot more to learn about the F-35, so this is VERY much a "first look" - I'm hugely impressed though.
I guess we have to remind ourselves that the systems simulation within this aircraft is almost entirely fictional. It's still great fun though.
Can't wait to take the F-35 to both the Mach loop, and the Sidewinder low-level route in the US :)

Jonathan is on a jet streak. really is funny how military aircraft often turn out to be fun just to fly with
seems like somebody is enjoying the fighters. I have not finished the vid yet but it is quality so far as always.
Great video, and I'm hoping to see you fly the F-22, too. That is superb to fly.
You must be a mind-reader as I'm planning to buy this plane just today. It's great to see the current version in action!
I have had this plane for a couple years, glad to see your review.
Just watched this and your earlier Typhoon video (both excellent btw). Like you, I’m more pro GA and airliners (turboprop and jet) but I’ve really enjoyed your fast jet vids. Learning to fly them properly/appropriately is a fine aim but then what? I don’t have your skills to whisk it around the Mach loop or ‘Star Wars canyon’ so I’d really be at a loss what to use them for - especially as an X Box user I don’t get to play with munitions or external stores. I’ll just have to live vicariously through your great videos 😁 Keep up the fabulous work!
Bought this when it came out and there were issues with it. Emailed the dev (one of the few times I’ve needed to do that with payware aircraft) and got an immediate response and refund. They didn’t even need me to uninstall or anything so I basically got it for free including all subsequent updates. Was deeply impressed with them. Therefore had no hesitation in buying the Tornado.
Glad you're looking into these and who knows you might get the bug.
Wait till echo 19 sound addon OMG
Try the Harrier in vertical take off. That needs plenty of practice. It is fun but hard . The F35 is so easy in comparison.I suppose that’s because it’s a such a modern aircraft with all the technology. The sounds of the Harrier are amazing. I fly it on Xbox series x. Thank you for the video. I think you have now got the fast jet bug. LOL. Regards Rob
I haven’t taken a close look at the model… looks great
I've already put it on my wishlist.
What a machine this thing is!
Did you know the helmet mounted display is featured in this model? It also works in vr
That aircraft is extremely loud in real life.
f35 is very cool ... nice video
Now you have to buy the carrier group for stovl take off😊 dont forget auto take off and use das system top down view
I got one of those out the back as well.
Awesome 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼🤩😀
Another great vid…. Would love to see Fat Amy in DCS…….
Looks great I want to play it but 2024 is around the corner so might have to wait till then 😩
Could I ask what scenery you are using for Coningsby?
Okay….I didnt even want this plane….now I do. Thanks a lot 🤣
its getting a huge sound update next week, teasers on Echo19's youtube channel
I have it on X plane Great fun to fly.
Thank you for this review :) That RAF base is that a payware scenery?
It's become payware :) You can find it on Contrail, I think ?
Latest update with the new sounds by echo19 is available now at Sim Market and will be at Just Flight also soon
I haven't flown this for a while. How is LNAV on this now? Autopilot was also historically very janky - have they fixed it?
I haven't played with the autopilot at all - just flown it around on manual.
can you do the F-15E strike eagle? and the F-22? and if possible can you do a video showing how to use routes and using autopilot?
I'll get to them eventually. Be prepared for some disappointments along the way :)
Does it have an autostart function?
If you have discovered an interest in military airplanes you should absolutely have a look at the Indiafoxtecho / Heatblur F-14. For many people the most immersive jet in DSC and in a league of it´s own there. The MSFS version is most likely the best fighter jet available for MSFS until now.
Yeah - I have it in DCS and in MSFS - I covered it when it came out. It's nowhere near the Tornado :)
@@jonbeckettWould love to hear more of your thoughts on this, as I’m struggling to choose between the two at the moment! :)
@@jonbeckettwhat does would that mean?
@@francescobrunetti5281 The Tornado is much more complete than the Tomcat.
How do you get other fighter jets to be parked up on airport
What airport is that? Thank you appreciate the video brother 🙇🏽
It's Coningsby.
Makes me wish for an F35 in DCS
Why does this thing only do Mach .99 at sea level (should do 1.2-1.3) and mach .99 at high altitude (should do mach 1.6)?
15:30 the absence of a synthetic voice alerting of low energy state doesn’t seem to be realistic
What airport is that!?
There's something about the F35's cockpit that's just... for lack of a better term "ugly".
We get a neat augmented reality HUD... but pair it with a big obtrusive horseshoe canopy instead of something like the F16's bubble canopy?
Then there's the panoramic cockpit screen which looks to be a giant CGA monitor running a stripped down 1980's DOS driven early beta of the GNS 530 :p
I'm sure it's very functional.. but it screams lowest bidder in a way that no other US fighter has before IMHO.
who cares? at the end of the day it kick some ass. and its way powerful than you think..
@@specialopssoldier1Who cares? The taxpayers do, who are on the hook for a VTOL jet, which is a technological marvel, but utterly useless and needless in the 21st century. We have the most incomparably powerful military in all of human history, and it’s still not enough for them. Gotta keep spending, spending, spending on a jet that will never see combat, so Lockheed and their bought-and-paid-for Senators can enrich themselves at our expense.
I seriously doubt it represents the real one at this point.,
@@BPond7 you know nothing about the F-35
@@Beebob-xw9xn Yeah, that must be it.
What scenery is this?
Coningsby.
Nice video. I miss the purpose of such a complex creation inside a civilian sim. Doesn’t make any sense to me.
You didn't do the vertical take off from standing!
You're not *supposed* to :)
Not supposed to operationally ?because VTOL works well and is great especially landing on the HMS QE. You may know this but there is a moving QE of the Pembrokeshire Coast in the Irish Sea but not on the World Map The RAF mastered STOL using a moving carrier for the F35B and you can simulate this in MSFS👍
@@dalenixon7134 using VTOL reduces the range and payload options enormously. Also, the surface beneath the aircraft requires consideration :)
Watching the F35 trials on the QE I wondered what damage would be done to the deck🤪👍
18:24 sceptic about full flaps deployment under high G. Hmm 🤨 (obviously I don’t know so I might be wrong)
It's fly by wire - the wing shape is adapting to handle a high angle of attack. The F-16 does the same thing.
@@jonbeckett that is well known. Nothing new, nothing surprising. Obviously i am well aware of it. It’s just the flaps displacement to “Full flaps” which seems odd..
The "Aliens"can do all this by hand apparently ..no need for the computers.😎
Absolutely love yhis jet..but my xbox s doesn't 😢
F-35s fly over my house here in Utah, USA.
You know what pisses me off. How msfs gets all these aircraft and us over in DCS have to wait 10 years to get a any new aircraft
The main DCS ones are more accurate far more to them.
The military aircraft in MSFS are largely works of fiction as far as their flight dynamics and system simulation goes. DCS is a completely different ball-game. The aircraft modelled in it not only approximate their real-world counterparts pretty accurately, they also behave and work the same way - right from avionics, through to sensor suites and weapon systems. The aircraft in DCS also interact with the air around them - simulating wing vortices, and so on.
New to your channel, and I like it so far, but "coningsby", "North of england" really ???
I will admit to laughing at this comment - the rest of the world don't know the whole hoodoo about calling anywhere south of Northumberland "north of England" :)
The autopilot is trash though. Fun to fly without it, but it just does not work at all. It keeps an altitude and speed, but the heading command is screwed up. My plane wants to constantly bank left and will NOT take a heading command!!!! Very erratic.
This is a very nice representation of the F-35 but completely fictional in terms of flight dynamics and systems.
I doubt there's any way to get that information legally so let's just have a little fun.
No, the aircraft is rather close to the numbers compared to the real thing, range, speed, acceleration, etc. Where it does fall short is maneuverability, primarily angle of attack(the fly by wire and cg make it very difficult to reach a high AOA), and the general feel of the fly by wire that is in microsoft flight simulator feels bad, as it is based on an airbus airliner, and not a fighter jet. The only jet that feels good and is truly fly by wire in MSFS is the Top Mach F-22 because they use a custom FBW module, and are the only ones doing that for the time being. I imagine that will change once the Milviz F-16 releases. The other jets in MSFS that are FBW(Typhoon, etc) all use weird workarounds to get around the FBW's awkwardness, but at the cost of realism, like stalls, etc.
Can you say, Boondoggle?
Err.... so pitched down 20 degrees in a turn and it slows down and retains 160 knots. Huh! That's clearly wrong. Should be accelerating
Unrealistic flight performance. Irl it's faster, rate of climb is better, acceleration is faster, better nose authority at near stall speeds and better overall maneuverability in the one circle and rate
Between my reading and the videos I see the F-35 is an idiot's fighter. The point being getting the weapon (pilot) to the ops area and all he/she has to worry about is deploying the weapons.
I can also understand why the Marines took one good bolt of lightning and suddenly had *pffft* for instruments.
But by turns that means the pilot can concentrate on the situation, rather than flying the plane. Also, the plane can perform much more dangerous maneouvers (I'm reminded that the F-35 got lots of bad press for it's dogfighting capabilities early in it's life - until it had a software update, and suddenly it held it's own against anything) :)
@@jonbeckett Absolutely. It's an amazing aircraft. Its purpose is to deliver a mind that can prioritize, select the appropriate ordinance and engage all while looking like a sparrow on radar and a hole to infrared arrays. Just not a stick and rudder plane anymore, but what is?
Another combat aircraft that is classified at every level including actual flight performance.. in a POS civvy sim that doesnt even support combat in the first place WTF is the point of combat aircraft in MSFS..
You get to fly them.
Way too many modern military aircraft coming out for my taste.
Whats wrong with that?
@@jciwallcrawler3673 A civilian flight sim swamped with military aircraft? I dunno. You tell me. I mean, did DCS get taken up in the Rapture last week?
Are you calling a tornado modern lol.
No one is twisting your arm and forcing you to buy anything. Why are you here if you feel that way? Why whine about it?
@@dillank3240 I never said anyone was twisting my arm. I just find it distasteful that a civilian sim is being flooded with militaristic bullshit. There's already a perfectly good flight sim for military combat fans - DCS. People who want to pretend they're helping the Saudis commit genocide in Yemen, or who want to pretend to fly ironic supply drops to Palestinian children, can surely go there to get their jollies.
F-35 has an ugly cockpit.
I suppose winning is more important than style.
@@Beebob-xw9xn Agreed 👍
Remember the version in the sim is almost entirely fictional.
@jonbeckett I don't know... I've seen pictures online, and it looks like what is in the sim. Unless those pictures online are not accurate either, and the cockpit is classified. I doubt it, though.
@@emvill4520 The layout might be right - but what things do, and how they work might be made up :)
How do you get it in these hangers can you do this on Xbox , or just pc … how do you do it on pc ,
you need custom airports that have these hangars. usually on marketplace
@@vlxxrd4866 oh ok , didn’t know that , I’d like to know which ones have these ,
@@Bigbaz-bj8io There’s Nellis, Lakenheath, Coningsby, and probably a few others
