- We're back in the thick of it at the 2017 Avalon International Air Show! Better yet, this year The Flying Show were guests of Lockheed Martin, and were able to witness the Australian debut of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
In today's clip, Carlos meets with Ken Cooper, Senior Systems Manager at Lockheed Martin, and takes a turn on one of the most fantastic (not to mention large) simulators we've ever tried. We hope this little preview gives you a taste of what it would be like to fly and operate the F-35, it was truly an experience of a lifetime.

Plot twist... That "simulation" was actually a mission carried out by a stealth drone 3,000 miles away and he thinks he's playing a video game there in the building. 😂😂
Davie Dood 🤣🤣
😂😂Oh Boy, OH BOY!! 😂😂😂😂
My only question..
What if you get a guy that decides to derp around and do crazy shit, then crashes the damn thing into a tree or something...
1. Can only imagine the look on the instructors face
2. Is there a big reveal and now he has to pay for it? 😂
3. The "oh shit look" from the guys face, as he's calculating whether or not he can even afford it, and then racking his head on if he can even get a loan as well. 😂
Liam Phillips I was thinking the same thing. One of my favorite books.
It came to your mind about the Stargate Sg1, right? ;)
Now i can easily fly my f 35 thanx for the tutorial
Excellent
Yehh me 2 what variant do you have 🤣
Yeah same, we all have one in our garage
🤣🤣🤣
Just ordered my 2nd f35 went to the f35c... easier to take off from my driveway...
This is how the arcades of today should be.
You can always play something like this out home with DCS in VR. I'ts pretty close.
@@ultradevon04 except it's costly to build
Avertron if you have a job it’s not?
@breazy this setup is around 500,000
Zobi_YT we were talking about a DCS setup like he said 👍
F35: Easy control, dynamic interface, etc..etc..
F40: Everyone can fly.
That makes no sense... "Everyone can flies"???
@@ThatTempesTGuy Not everyone can speak proper English tho, smartass
That is the goal. With the current tech we have you don't have to be an expert to use a computer, so that same tech is in the fifth gen fighters. Even the f16 and f18 fly like that.
Sufian Rusman F-100: EASY PROGRAMMING AND FULLY AUTONOMOUS
F-300: There have been 57 World Wars and every single piece of land is one country. With no civilian fighting.
Ken is a gentleman! I have met him a couple times, he put me through F16 simulator too. I bet he gave old mate here a ball cap after... good guys from Lockheed
I always go back to this because the guy teaching is incredible at this!
Carlos: "it trims itself? Amaaaazing!"
1970's legacy fighters: Are we a joke to you??
Plot twist: this was actually DCS F-35 beta
"Just fire and forget, you can leave, and it will hit the target"
*Me jinking for dear life as I drag the missile to denser air while spamming chaff*
It's amazing how clean the f-35 cockpit is. If you look at a fourth-gen fighter cockpit there's so much clutter. Hell, the f22's cockpit has some clutter too. The f-35 has set a new standard. I'm willing to bet that this cockpit design will be the world standard moving forward.
look at the Russian jets cockpit haha
@@rhoelg the su57 for instance has a similar cockpit : there’s an hud instead of a full hmd system, and a smaller screen above the big mfd. There is an helmet mounted display too. The hud has less informations since there is a smaller display right below it. Not having the hud on the helmet mounted display is more safe in case of failure, and f35 pilots reported “green fog” when using their hmd during landing phases, so russians took a different path, but in the end it’s as effective
The sensor fusion and battle space pages are amazing, although flicking through touch screen menus can be annoying. Sometimes you just want the data always there, at a glance with no confusion so a few more instruments off that display would be nice.
Etiquette lesson #3: It's always polite to paw at a stranger's jacket to find out his name.
that made me physically uncomfortable
Yea, not something you do to a stranger
DCS? Forget DCS, you want to fly this F35 right now? i was shocked by how similar this looked to VTOL VR, the cockpit setup and displays are exactly the same, its amazing what the VTOL VR devs achieved with so much classified information
Eh VTOL VR lacks realism. It’s not as pretty and has fictional aircraft. The cockpits also aren’t perfectly modeled true to life. I’d say India Fox Echoes F-35 is the closest replica out there if you don’t mind no weapons. There’s also Lockheed P3D if you want attack capability.
@@rzr2ffe325 well ofcourse not you big goof, they cant simulate a classified cockpit because there isnt pictures of it you can work from. The reason it's not pretty is because it has to run well as a VR game, as well as have your PC run all the AI, and missile guidance to a realistic standard
VTOL vr Dev*, its crazy that its made by only 1 person
ken would make a good instructor..... no doubt
Ray Dolinger I think he is. Just because he wears a suit and is super nice doesn’t mean he’s not head of USAF training ;) I’d love to be taught by him. So calm, knowledgeable and you can sense the assertion when something is required of you and don’t do it in a calm patient manner. Really good instructor.
3:13 Look mom, no hands!
Lol🤣
😂😂
Ken Cooper was very knowledgeable about the aircraft. Also, he had a nice way of instructing the pilot. Great video!
Wow what an airplane and what an experience! Thank you for sharing this video.
Never have i ever wanted to play a "game" so much during my life until now
Ariel combat of the future.....
Will be fought on giant iPads

What about Wizir combat?
Who is Ariel? Ariel Winters?
This is Ariel. images.app.goo.gl/fbAmeFHN1Wgs9Vxp7
Don’t think that’s a problem
I flew in one of their F-35 simulators at a air show at Hill AFB a few years ago and splashed 2 Migs. It was so cool!!
Thanks for the tutorial, now i can take my f-35 off the warehouse and have some fun
That was awesome instructions from Ken.
This is absolutely amazing!
When I was at Armstrong Flight Research Center I used one of these, this was a great experience.
@CHRONIC GAMING it uses prepar3d as simulation. Don't know more about it though
@CHRONIC GAMING wing viper u can buy it
Great instructor. It was fun watching
Absolutely amazing. I felt that when I landed for the first time in BMS with HOTAS Warthog and IR head tracking 🙂
This looks awesome - would love a go at that!
This is like flying another plane in DCS with Arcade Mode and all of the assists turned on.
This is the future and it'll only get better
Wow.......Incredible Video................Thanks for Sharing
That is a great instructor!
amazing. liked it very much
You gained my sub for the intro music. Don't let me down.
Fantastic thanks!
Superb avionics lockheed martin..
SO proud to be part of the production team on this amazing aircraft!
The modern "car salesman". :-).. And the customer will ask,, "does it come in red?" :-)
Does it come in black?
@@sirfrack8553 Finally a batman reference.
Ken is an absolutely very good instructor!!
Amazing piece of tech.
It's amazing bro
I wish this video never ended
I need this in my life!!!
10:54 Unless the weapon fails, which is a possibility.
Ordnance Marines: start sweating...
Visual ID of a bandit many miles away... Game changer.
must get this well trained pilot to come in the Foxbat with 'Biggles'. .. Carlos is having to much fun
"I could really feel the Gs".
Pilot standing behind him: "Nope"
Amazing...amazing..amazing
GREAT RESPECT THE INSTRUCTOR
BOTH HANDS OFF THE CONTROLS!
Amazing
Wow man....thats pretty sweet and deadly😁
Can’t wait to flight the F35 with this cockpit in DCS
nice thing about sims is they can also be time machines. I love flying a WWI biplane over France about 1917 or so - and that was by no means easy, in some ways was just as complicated if not more so than modern planes.
Man I need me one of those in my house
Is it a coincidence that the target is a SU-27? 🤣
It is Mig-29
ABOUT All whatever, some Russian plane
Looks more like a Mig-29

Blue on blue situation, that was a Wright flyer.
People in the future:
"Wait.... you had to actually touch something? How primitive!"
Assuming a butlerian jihad hasn’t happened and people have learned better not to trust machines so much
Thanks, now I'm all set for the airforce.
Expect you’ll need to get straight A,s in school. Unfortunately
Is the game going to be on Steam?????
No the epic store! :-)
You can play the F16 or F18 in Digital Combat Simulator World.
Prepare 3d
@Milan Knoeps Dude no. In terms of flight model and systems DCS pretty much beats every single simulator out there. Falcon has better combat simulation. The problem with DCS is spaghetti code, lack of ATC, and dumb AI.
@Milan Knoeps And at least 3 modules in DCS is used for military training. DCS simulates systems way better. The only reason BMS is still relevant is its amazing dynamic campaign and simulation of a battlefield.
I love it
I'd tell him "Just don't fuck with the ejector button" Otherwise we'll have to peel you off the ceiling 🤣🤣🤣
I really want one of those
I need one of these in my house!!!
It can be yours for just $100,000... call today
Viper wing
agreed but it needs a cup holder for the beer
Jst got the F-35 with working afterburners in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Sooooooo nice 😄
Wow looks so easy but you need g force training. I studied aircraft systems, commercial pilot licence, commercial weather prepare, avionics, and multi engine rating, plus I completed an inspection in Kelowna B.C. this would definitely be a dream come true to learn how to fly this f 35.
Dude. I would never leave the house.
I need this as my drone lmao😂😂😂😂
I want one!
this is awesome, i wanna try it out now, too bad it's not a game.
Thank goodness for simulators. Back in the day this guy had to sit on the wing the entire flight.
Flying F18s or A10 in DCS is alot more complicated than Flying the F35..
This plane flies itself
Thank's i was searching for a tutorial before buy it.
10:17 that's when he's wrong lol. Hmm interesting to see the enemy just flying straight without taking any evasive maneuvers
that dude is just a government negotiator and not a real fighter pilot. you don't want to make it difficult for him lol
Cool😎
in it everyday
There you go assisted by Louis Gossett Jr of Iron Eagle!
Do yourself a favour and download DCS
VTOL VR is more immersive
@@rykehuss3435 finally someone who plays vtol cr
@@rykehuss3435 *vr
@Paul Klein It's that expensive because it's the most realistic simulation to date. The military actually uses their modules.
@Paul Klein do you think they build realistic (not game level) simulators for free? Each plane takes YEARS to make and the base game is free so why would you expect each plane for free and consider that a weird business model?
I want one in DCS so bad
Aprenderia a dominar esta maquina em 2 dias, ficou bem mais facil com as tela ^^
I want it in DCS
i want do that sim flight
1:20 nice.
Does any one know if it’s possible to purchase one of these the sim not the actual plane
So basically the pilot isn't doing a whole lot of the flying in an F-35
Which is why a lot of Females are 'Fighter Pilots' nowadays -_-
phatbusted so true
That's the point though. The pilot can pay more attention to the mission instead of flying.
Thats by design. . . . ever wonder why we lost so many pilots in ww2 before they even saw combat? Those birds were hard as shit to fly.
Yea but they gotta worry about missiles that can hit them from 10 miles away
Imagine the Gs when he pulled up at 620 knots
I need one of these for DCS World...
Incredible. It's so easy to fly. Really frees the pilot up to do "other stuff".
What I wouldn't do for a whole day with this thing..
*A Fighter jet the kids can enjoy*
Best video game ever..
Nellis AFB on the simulator. DCS has so much better graphics. I just wish they had the F-35 in it to try. I'll still stick with the F-16C Bl.50 as my favorite though. It'd be nice to have that cockpit setup instead of the MFD's.
This is a good F-35 simulator. The reality will be different.
The F-35 i-jet!
Amazing gentleman who guided you, he made this video really interesting, what a nice one !
What I wonder is whether the ease of flying compensates some of the lower manoeuvrability characteristics compared to some 4th gen fighters. The releasing the stick and the aircraft stays in this position without needing of a compensation makes the flight probably much more precise once used to it !
One other thing that I wonder is whether the ease of flying makes a big difference for a trained pilot compared to a F-16 of the USAF for example. Of course, for someone not being trained, the difference is massive. But for a professional pilot, I am really wondering.
Of course, compared to a second and third generation jet, there is no discussion as there were so many indicators for the various sensors to control, and the navigation was definitely taking much more effort. So here I could see the impact of focusing more on the mission.
If we take a Gripen E, the approach is very very similar, but what about the first generation of the Gripen, Rafale or Eurofighter?
Really curious !
I suspect that even for a trained fighter pilot, having a machine that flies itself reduces fatigue and allows them to concentrate more on strategy during combat. It would be like a high paid executive hiring an admin assistant to handle everyday mundane tasks so that they can concentrate on running the company.
The F-35 is better than F-16 in terms of nose authority (angle of attack), and better than the F/A-18 in terms of acceleration. It has a higher top speed compared to 4th gen planes carrying external stores. The F-35 is certainly not less maneoeuverable than 4th gen fighters
Best Fighter
Dam, is it so hard to pull back!!!?????
*high G sound effect*
Let me try!!!
8:13
I woke up, got up out of bed and went to work.
How much are one of these? It would fare well with my living room decor.
This guy is secretly an ace pilot.
I thought the F35 cockpit was classified... or is that only the F22?
Let me tell you something, I played battlefields 1,4, and 5. That is enough :D
