      What was going on with your D140 when you did this or bought this new unit? All of a sudden this spring my D140 has a lot less power than last summer. It bogs down on slight slopes and if I get into some thick grass or higher grass. I don't know if it is an engine problem or what. I been thinking I am running on only one cylinder maybe instead of two but I also noticed my drive belt has some pretty good cracks/cuts in it.....but it still turns the blades.

    • @KGH4121
      @KGH4121 Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@JQUICK21 It wouldn’t pull hills anymore. Literally as soon as I hit the incline it would just stop. This slowly happened over the course of a year until it just stopped one day. Never had a problem on a flat or tall grass. I had about 150 hours on my D140. After I swapped it out it was like the day I bought it.

      @JohnsonsSmallEngines yeah I got to tell you, very interesting tho I like challenges 😅but what I found out, to Change even a drive belt you have to take a lot of parts off even steering rod, just to Change the belt, and yes you're 100% right, check everything while you got this thing apart cuz you'll be doing it again to Change pulleys, it's almost with this thing like, one thing after another 🤣, well thanks again for the video, when I changed my idler pulley yesterday I figured out I'll look at other things, and found out my transmission pulley is crooked too, all tho I'm thinking about just cutting out battery plate to get access to it instead of dropping transmission, I got to make this deere easier to work on, vs of what the engineers anticipated us to do 😉, but over all like I said I like challenges so as aggravating as this machine sometimes is, I'm laughing to my friends about it. My one friend calls me after the weekend now and says, how the deere going🤣🤣🤣cuz he knows another thing had to brake on it😅😅😅well John it would be great if I could ask you some questions when I'll run in to any more deere mysteries , have a great day and thank you for the video again, if ill have time I'm thinking maybe I'll drop my transmission with my son just to teach him the right procedure, and than after words cut out that plate to show him that sometimes you can bend some rules of engineering, he's 13 and I like to show him also, that not always going by the book is the best. He's already working on his Mazda Miata and learned a lot of things

      What was the reason for the belt replacement? My D140 belt still turns the blades but I noticed it had some pretty good cracks or cuts in it in many places when I was under there replacing the PTO clutch. My tractor this spring has a whole lot less power and I don't know if it is the engine or what? • @JohnsonsSmallEngines

      The bolt is self tapping, no need to take the time, "saving time, saves the customer $" just like the factory does on the assemble line, plus there is no stress at all on the bolt, it is just there to help keep the belt from falling off when the clutch/brake is applied. There is normally more to do than just and upgrade, there are different axle sizes meaning different rims needed and more work then a easier refit. I can't believe you can't change the oil in these things! Presumably it's a similar procedure for an x300 transmission change? Anyhow......thanks again!

      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před rokem +1

      Hi Dave, make sure your running the engine at full speed. The transmission will make make grunting “groaning “ feel / noise if your running the engine at a low speed. Also check the owners manual to see if you can change the oil on yours. Some of the better tractors you can but it depends on what model transmission you have. I will be picking up a x300 series for service soon and I will check it out.

I try not to lug it when just motoring about but it does groan a little when setting off or going up hill......don't know if that's a bad sign? I've checked the owners manual and it doesn't look like you can change the oil. The starter motor is sticking too but a squirt with some brake and clutch cleaner frees it up. Have you done a vlog on changing the deck belt on an edge mulching deck......that would be informative. Apologies, I've just thrown a lot at you there!!

      You’ll just need to go with the way the transmission is until it doesn’t go. I’ve had machines in and through normal wear and tear start to sound different but not much you can do. Do you have big hills? or tow heavy? Those two can play a role in the transmission failing. How many hours are on the machine? What size mower deck? I’ll check to see if I have a video. I'd like to change out the tranny fluid. Do you have a video for this? I've seen a few where folks put a tube in through the breather hole on top of the tranny to suck and then refill the fluid. Does the LT150 have a breather tube that's accessible without pulling the trans? Otherwise, is removing the trans similar to this model?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 11 měsíci +1

       I would suggest putting a fresh piece of cardboard underneath the transmission area and see what happens overnight. Then look straight up and see where it’s dripping from. It could be the brake shaft coming out of the side of the transmission. Or the main drive pulley shaft. You can also look for the transmission breakdown if you can find the model number of your transmission or possibly go to the John Deere website and look up the transmission to see where all the seals are located. you also may need to clean the transmission to correctly find out where it is leaking from.
