WHY SOMALILAND HAS NOT BEEN RECOGNIZED BY A SINGLE COUNTRY FOR 25 years?
The situation surrounding SL has arguably been one of the most contentious issues in Somali history since the Northern Somalia territory self declared it's independence amidst the Somali civil war which came as a surprise to many,A surprise because prior to SL separatism movement no other Somali territory harbored separatism tendencies quite contrary Somalis believed the horn of Africa was a single country so strong was this feeling Somalia invaded Ethiopia in 1977 to reclaim the Ogaden region which was wrongfully put under Ethiopian rule by the British colonizers this is a whole different topic altogether so i wont get much into it but moving on to the topic at hand these are some of the most crucial reasons SL will not be achieving recognition anytime soon.I will use the youngest nation in Africa South Sudan as a reference and how it was able to gain international recognition immediately after it's formation so bear with me;
1.PEOPLE
This is arguably one of the most important factors a separatism movement has to fulfill in it's quest for international recognition in the sense that it has to convince the international world they are completely different from the people they wish to separate from by race, religion, language etc SL does not full fill this condition because all ethnic Somalis generally make up one tribe that speaks the same language and furthermore share a religion on the other hand South Sudan managed to fulfill this condition perfectly because they were of a different race, religion and language from the Sudanese people which made their road to recognition a smooth one.
2.ACT OF UNION
This is another important factor a separatist movement can use in their quest for secession by simply proving they never signed an act of union from the region they want to separate from or were even forced or pressured to sign it but in the case of Somalia this is a very different scenario as both North and South Somalia willingly and unilaterally signed an act of union without any military pressure whatsoever amidst pomp and celebrations so once again SL falls short in this category NOTE some people might try to find faults in the act of union to work it on their favor but these can be rightfully termed as being opportunistic or fanatics but the main point is an act of union exist which the international world used to recognize Somalia as a single country after the union.Union:
1. (a) The State of Somaliland and the State of Somalia do hereby unite and shall forever remain united in a new, independent, democratic, unitary republic the name whereof shall the SOMALI REPUBLIC.
(b) The Capital of the Somali Republic shall be Mogadiscio.(Take note of the word ''FOREVER'')
3.DIFFERENCE IN POLITICAL IDEOLOGIES
This is one of the easiest routes a separatist movement is usually founded on this led to breakup of the USSR,a separatist movement simply needs to prove they have very contrasting political ideologies with the region they wish to separate from and wait to be recognized by other countries which share a common political ideology for instance SL might argue it's a communist state and wish to separate from Somalia a capitalist state this would see SL being recognized by other countries that are communist such as North Korea Lol this assumption is not true of course in reality the whole of Somalia regions believe in a capitalist ideology and mix of secular and sharia law as the basic political foundation so once again SL fails to differentiate itself from the rest of Somalia making the international world look at it as just another autonomous region in Somalia.
These are some of the most basic facts as to why SL has never been recognized by a single country since they self declared independence although this might hurt some people i can categorically tell you SL will never be recognized call me a ''hater'' or a ''pessimist'' but that is the simple unedited truth and is backed by SL consistently getting 00% recognition for a quarter century.
What Somali people need to realize is reconciliation is the best way forward Somalia is not Muqdishu or Bosaso alone it's a collection of great Somali cities such as Hargeysa, laascanod,Bosaso,Kismayo etc and most importantly our historic and ancient capital city Muqdishu for Somalia to come back to what it was it has to get back to it's roots that is a strong centralized country that was built on love,Somalinimo and unity and we prosper moving forward side by side. Got to sleep on the beach, check out ancient cave paintings, and searched for old ruins in Shiikh. Got treated like a rock star in El Afweyn and on the beaches of Berbera as I was there during Eid. There wasn't a lot do do there for the general tourist but I really enjoyed my time there. It's a beautiful place and would love to go back.

@@KhalidAbdinasir252 what people want and what things are, are two very different things. I want to be a billionaire, does that mean I'm a billionaire? No it doesn't. I wasn't that far east in Somaliland/northern Somalia. The farthest east I was in Wajale where I crossed the border. When I walked across the border, it was Somaliland customs/border officials I dealt with who looked at my Somaliland visa which I got in the Somaliland embassy in Addis Ababa. From Wajale to Maydh and the places I visited in between (Hargeisa, Darburruk, Berbera, Shiikh, Burco, El Afweyen, Ceerigaabo, Maydh and many other little places), the area was mostly referenced to as Somaliland. I would love to explore the area between Hargeisa and Djibouti as I really enjoyed Somaliland/northern Somalia and want to see more. Yes from the outside looking in, officially there is only Somalia. Somaliland is approaching 30 years of stability. Over 50% of the current population has been born after the bombings of Hargeisa and Burco and have not experienced any war. The mentality of this generation is of peace and stability. In the next 20 years that number should grow to 80% being born after the Bombings. It does have resources, its coast isn't filled with chemical unlike Somalia's one; and it does have a large arable land. Lol
Somaliland is much better off without Somalia. Somaliland have accomplished a lot and functioning as a recognized country even though they're not officially recognized as an independent country. Imagine what they could have achieved if they were recognized from day one?
When South Sudan about to secede from Sudan, people used to say that same thing that South Sudan's Independence will cause a lot of provinces in Africa to seek independency as well, and nothing happened after South Sudan officially recognized.
And FYI, Somaliland was British Protectorate whereas Somalia was Italy colony. Somaliland was its own country or whatever you call it after they took their Independency from Brian on June 26, 1960 and before they united with Somalia (Unlike Puntland and the Ogaden region in Ethiopia)
@Justin Y, Your*. I can spell correctly at least.
@Justin Y, I didn't say there aren't Somalilanders who still want to be part of Somalia. There are, but they're very small in numbers. Likewise, there are Somalians who think the world should recognize Somaliland as an independent country.
Somalia doesn't want a referendum to take place in Somaliland on whether Landers want to be part of Somalia or secede from it 'cause they (Somalians) know that at least 90% of Somaliland citizens will choose to secede.
So we have:
Somaliland - the Taiwan of Africa
Catalonia - the Taiwan of Europe
Puerto Rico - the Taiwan of North America

Somaliland ( the brain of Somalis) has got its independency 26/06/1960 from UK, while Somalia got its independence 01/07/1960 from Italia! After the two parts got their own different separate recognitions, Somaliland and Somalia have attempted to start what we used to call "the greater Somalis" which was uniting 5parts of Somali inhabitant! Fortunately, It didn.t work and the Somalilanders have realized that they were "building Castles in the Air". Then in May/1991, the people of Somaliland has decided to reclaim their god giving independency and started building a real country that works. Therefore, Somaliland is real and it has never been a part and parcel of Somalia. Unification of the two (Somaliland and Somalia) were a project to unite all Somalis, but it didn't work. Now, Somaliland is trying to build its own democratic country and wait you to recognize that. Because it deserve to be recognized. Thanks

I was witness as a young boy a friend of mine where playing a land mine and his body where hardly collect
Wars7498 But the somalilanders deciding to leave brought them peace and prosperity and all the clans that "got over it" are still in a violent war that has yet to end. to to counter your counter argument. Somaliland has progressed further than the rest of somalia and leaving has made them more politically stable than ever.
Thanks for explaining about Somaliland. I went there last year and felt very safe there and even got to be interviewed on national TV!
It's almost midnight, I should be sleeping...

Good job bro. Planning to visit the beautiful somaliland soon. Informative clip thanks. Somaliland deserves to be recognised as a country. Somalilanders are very progressive and esucated people much advanced than their southern neighbors. Somaliland was a recognised countey after indepence but they joined with the south present day somalia and all went a mock. Thanks again

Wonder why ex-British colonies are more stable and have a more developped economy than those ruled by the French, Italians, Spanish or Portuguese 🤔
All others came back for natural resources but England don't
Excellent question. Its because the British class system creates more stability through highly educating a group if leadeds while the socialist systems deployed by othera created a bunch of equally uneducated dimwits.
The current war in "Somalia" is between high school graduates who all thinl they should lead the country, while Somalilanders had PHD holders to refer to.
Somaliland was a 'Protectorate' not a 'Colony' there is a difference between the two
agreed if u look at the italian colines, somalia (south), eretria and libaya they have all had brutal dictators.

Somaliland has a legal case. There's is no valid documents or Treaty that legally bind the two countries into one, so it's a legal case as well as moral and historical one. And by the way the United Kingdom did not say we will grant Somaliland independence only if they unite with Somalia that is totally false and it doesn't even make any sense in historical timeline.
Exactly.
@@Persojourn somaliland went to British and convince them to give them independence and pushed for italiana somalia to release as well so they can form union it was all in somaliland hands never did british force them they opted to retain their independence and form union with italiana somalia to form former somali republic.
Safe travels looking forward to the photos and videos to come.
Another great episode! You are my favorite CZcams channel!!! 👍👍👍

thanks for Uploading these video talking about the true history of Somaliland.
the International Community ignored the existing and well functioning state while they give non stop support for failed states but I hope that one day in the near future Somaliland will be recognised.
Very nice Informative thanks
Look, I’m not an expert, and I don’t know any of the negatives, but Somaliland seems like it should be a more official nation. I realize the issues with other groups in the region, but Somaliland seems a lot more stable and could do a lot better. However, I will say that the per capita gdp is under 400 dollars, so whether it would do well is debatable.
I agree with you Somaliland should be recognize
