  • / tilfbarryharristhis is the Thirty Second in several episodes discussing the things i've learned from Barry Harris I started studying with Barry in 1993 and still learn from his teaching every day. I hope I can use this channel to help other musicians who are interested in Jazz but find it a little too cerebral. I think Barry's method, while being cerebral, is also direct and most important beautiful. Please Subscribe and feel free to comment below on how I can improve this channel I'm available for skype lessons if you prefer.

    Clear examples of what practice time really means. No random licks here...great work!

    If I could have heard what you said in the last few moments of this video years ago, I would be so much further along. Through this lesson, there is a point of insight that is most valuable necessary for musicians to grow exponentially.

    An endorsement from Jimmy. Praise indeed!

      Not an endorsement from Jimmy Bruno. I think he was just acknowledging that I shared a clip of Barry teaching. I think Jimmy's praise is for Barry which it should be.

    Thanks again Chris for yet another inspiring vid on the creative process. I'm not sure if anyone has requested this but would you, in the future, describe what you finish the demonstrated phrase off with. I've made a few recordings just to help figure out where things are headed and it is very helpful.

    Very nice melodic phrase with jump up a tone resolving back chromatically to the note skip...

    YOu made me ask, what if I take the maj penta scale and move that up the scale! 12356 .... never thought about trying that .. Thanks a million things to learn like you said! you go up 1235 and 5321 on the next scale note, sounds like a phrase ...

  • @joshuaklein2859

    I'm confused:( 3-1 has five notes the others have 4 notes chromatically descending...

    • @TypingHazard
      @TypingHazard Před 4 lety

      He mentioned in the beginning that you can do it one of two ways; you can omit a chromatic note if you're playing across a major 3rd. You can also keep the note and just keep the rhythm of the first and last notes the same and just slur the extra chromatic note in there. So whether you're playing 4 notes or 5 for this part doesn't matter as long as it's rhythmically the same in the end
