This is the Forty Third in several episodes discussing the things i've learned from Barry Harris I started studying with Barry in 1993 and still learn from his teaching every day. I hope I can use this channel to help other musicians who are interested in Jazz but find it a little too cerebral. I think Barry's method, while being cerebral, is also direct and most important beautiful. Please Subscribe and feel free to comment below on how I can improve this channel I'm available for skype lessons if you prefer.
Siempre interesante e inquisición.Gracias
As always just the best material. Thanks again, it's almost in Bach's territory
Barry's way of looking at things is wonderful. Glad you're enjoying.
What a gem! Thanks for pointing out this simple, diatonic and very musical phrase.

Lovely ideas, I need example like that for realizing that scales can be explored and worked through many musical patern! Thank you
You're welcome Louis.
Wonderful, as always. I have a suggestion for a video. How about using Barry Harris techniques to embellish the melody in a ballad, perhaps using samples from Bird with Strings.
Great suggestion. I'll have to think about that.
Nice guitar!
Wow!New guitar!
Great video!
Thanks Nikhil
You breaking the lines down, makes me hear riffs from Eric Johnson’s, “Cliffs of Dover.” In the first few minutes of the clip. Your theory is tangible by the way. Great approach. And yes it was Barry Harris videos that led me hear. But he always mentions Bud Powell. I think I’ll check out more of him.
Chris I wanted to tell you that I really like your using the Telecaster for lessons.. sounds great and is better sounding on these lessons ..
Rad 👌🏿
Thank you
I really appreciate your CZcams channel and the time it takes to put these up...
My question has to do with playing over an altered dominant, let's say C7 altered. Now, I know we can use the minor 6 diminished chords on the b2 scale relationships over this but regarding single-note playing... this would then direct me to i.e. F#7 as one scale, with all of the half step rules you've mentioned.
My question is, what is Barry's reason for allowing, in this case, a B natural as part of that scale? Is it because, played with the correct half steps rules, the B natural falls on a weak beat? Typical so-called Bebop scales would be to play D flat melodic minor which would change that B natural to a C natural, the tonic of the dominant chord played over.
Can you explain from Barry's point of view please?
Hey Chris are you still giving Skype lessons?
