The dog growling at him always gets me. Animals were always scared of my own abusive dad. They'd run from him, bark, hiss, etc. He always thought it was hilarious.

I moved back with my parents as my kids were off on their own and I've not been this happy since 2002. My neurologist took me out of work a little over a decade ago and put me in the permanently disabled list. What started it? Car accident in Dec 1997 in which I hit the left side of my head off the driver's side window - that has evolved to chronic severe migraines, severe sensitivity to sunlight and noise, memory loss, Menier's Disease, debilitating anxiety and depression and a severely compromised immune system... I generally don't really even leave my own bedroom much less house. If it wasn't for my parents, my adult children, and my beloved fiancee... What’s telling is after the daughter’s graduation when she’s holding her flowers. She seems so uncomfortable standing there. She just made it through high school, that's a huge accomplishment. She should have a grin from ear to ear, but she’s acting like she’s nervously waiting to get some teeth filled. That gives you a quick inside look of a child that has a dad who is normally distant and doesn’t show love. Then suddenly he has a camera on you and is giving you attention….and it’s just an awkward feeling because it feels fake.
The “joke” of him telling her to have her things packed by tomorrow is also how narcissists like to joke around. Their jokes aren’t funny though…they’re funny to themselves, they crack themselves up, but they leave other people thinking, “Oh…okay….I guess?” My dad is sort of like that too, I’ve been on the receiving end of those more than once.

Your commentary alongside this video felt organic, as if this was how this content was oringally meant to be presented. Not once did it feel like you were droning on or repeating yourself, nor just parroting what was already stated. Everything you added was supplementary and insightful.
Your pacing was incredibly smooth; the video didn't get interrupted at weird times. Every time you paused it, you enchanced the content with what you added.
You presented this in such a raw and humanized way. It's transparently clear that you're drawing from years of wisdom and experience. Many true crime channels are leaning hard into the "horror movie vibe". They speak in that deep voice, hype up the creep and spook factor, and dwell on all the atrocious. I know many viewers enjoy that, I'm not critizcing those creators. Your style is just refreshing. You didnt glorify or make a spectacle out of such a horrific crime. You spoke from empathy while still getting into the weeds of it all.
Ive never come across your channel before today; I've been a fan of EWUs and other channels like it for years. You're bolstering this genre in ways that I haven't seen on many other channels.

One day, I got a call from jail because he got caught stealing from a Wal Mart. He blamed me claiming I ‘asked for too much’ when, in reality, he kept insisting he wanted to spend money on me. Turns out, he was stealing and selling things online such as new sneakers. Little did I know, he’d have the shoes and video games he stole in the backseat of his car hidden under a blanket while he was driving me to dinner. I had no idea. If he had admitted his troubles, I would’ve helped him. But no, he didn’t communicate and then blamed me for him committing theft.

I initially thought Peter was building a bunker to keep a kidnapped sex slave hidden (kinda personally concerning that I jumped to that conclusion!), which was horrifying enough, but I had absolutely no idea where this was going. Then I started to wonder at the inclusion of the clips of his family, like, "why would the video makers be showing the identity of his daughter in particular?", and my feelings of dread began to creep up. I agree it's rarer but overcoming it can be done. I wish more people got the help they need. I know very well this can be hard. I did not get what I needed to help me from doctors, I found it in people who cared. What bothers me is those who appear to take the attitude that what was done to them is ok to do to others instead of recognizing the problem for what it is. If you personally have been abused, I sincerely hope you get the support you need. If not (or if you're in a good enough place, please join those of us seeking to be that support for others). I've had those thoughts of not feeling like I'm going anywhere in life or there's no point, ect. But the idea of taking my own shitty feelings out on other people is just beyond repulsive to me. If I were going to hurt someone it'd be myself before hurting another person. Because doing something like this to another person wouldn't make my situation better. It would just make things worse. No matter how bad a person's situation is, as long as you're alive things can always get better.

His wife would probably lose the house. His daughter would end up not being able to go to school and having to take care of her mom. The fact is, he (and the money from his job) was a cornerstone of their life and well-being. Just dropping off the grid would utterly destroy their lives.
I know a lot of people who have reached the point of suicide see their death as leaving the people they love in a better position. But he wasn't necessarily suicidal; he just couldn't stay. I've somewhat been there mentally. That my family would be better off without me, but I don't really want to die; just run away or disappear. At least in his mind, though, his family wouldn't be better off without him. Unfortunately, he was at that point in his mind that he absolutely couldn't stay.

I slept with heavy objects under my bed at the age of 12 wondering if I could defend myself should he decide to kill us during the night. He planned to kill his boss. When this was prevented by emergency hospitalization, he plotted to kill all of us, his family. This alarmed the hospital personnel to the point they moved him to an institution hours away from our home. Bipolar disorder can be a very dangerous disease. This was going on in the 50s and 60s. I remember a point in my life after my brain injury. I couldn't work, I couldn't get unemployment, because I couldn't possibly work, and it took 2 years to get my disability! I had a storage unit with all of the things I could fit in my car. I could even fit my car into the unit. It was September and nights were starting to get cold in Michigan. I had my blankets and pillow on the back seat. I thought about just starting up my car and letting myself fall asleep in the fumes.
But I held on. Thank goodness because shortly afterwards I was given an apartment through HUD that I didn't have to pay anything for. Then I reconnected with a high school friend that is an architect now. We got married in February. I finally got my disability approved. I literally can't believe this is my life. I thought I would never meet anyone. That I was just going to be a thorn in my children's side. But everything started moving in a positive direction, and now I love my life! I'm so glad I didn't end up missing out on all of this! ❤

When I was at a university in the Midwest, there was a dad who was cheating with a woman at their church. The wife took her small children and committed suicide with them from the top of the parking garage. It was a small town and I think she felt so betrayed by not just her husband but her congregation. It seemed that many people at the church knew about it. It's so devastating. People make horrible choices.
This guy in Bruce's video obviously had a ton of baggage. He pursued his wife. They seemed to have a decent life. Obviously he spent thousands of dollars. Get a better hobby. Sure the wife was ill but she was there as a great mom and supportive wife. She focused on her crafts and hobbies so keep herself occupied. He could have done something more constructive and useful for the family unit. Why didn't he start a side business? Making positive and interesting videos and not creepy ones.
He obviously had issues from his childhood. Who doesn't? I still deal with my parents who are in their 70s and they choose to be difficult. They don't take anyone's advice, not even the Drs' advice. Everyone was worried that growing up I would turn to drugs but I knew that it would just complicate my own life more and give my parents more fuel to complain. I worked 3 damn jobs and put myself through school. I'm married, marriage isn't easy. Neither is being alone. We were lucky to have kiddos. Was it easy raising them? No. It's just life. Getting through ups and downs is the name of the game. It's a rollercoaster ride for sure. Divorce isn't easy, working on issues isn't easy, but you just do what you can at the moment and move on.

There is an old movie titled "Hannah and Her Sisters" by Woody Allen. I know he's creepy, but I saw this a long time ago before I knew. There are three or four sisters, and in the story their mom did this and also took a family pet. I think the comment by a sister was that she didn't want to die all by herself. That's a movie. I think in real life the reasons are unique to whatever mental illness the person had. The Spokane incident is unimaginable. What a tragedy.

Glad you're working hard to create peace for yourself. Part of the thing with that man, tho, is that Major Depression *doesn't* cause homicidal ideations. It's possible he had it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had other things overlapping it. There's a few "reasons," or precursors to family annihilation. One is as an act of "altruism," as described by the murderer which might have been Keller's rational, but this is pretty much never true for the killers who claim this. He probably had a personality disorder along with other features.

With that out of the way I want to say that out healthcare system and mental health system is so terrible right now. And no it's not a single political party's fault. There's numerous factors. I went to the hospital not long ago and they needlessly tortured me for 2 days while almost killing me multiple times. Right now the Hippocratic oath for doctors is "do no harm, well unless there's a chance it might make me look bad so I'll just treat everyone like a junkie." And, we ARE in a SPIRITUAL WARFARE 🙏 🙏...As it says in the Bible scriptures, " We fight not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers"...I truly believe that mental illnesses or mentally ill people ARE people that are NOT saved/born again through our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ 🙏 ❤️ & have been OVERTAKEN by Satan and/or his demons...Just like in the Bible when Jesus came upon Legion, who had MANY demons 😈 within himself & Jesus cast them out & into the herd of pigs 🐖 & they then jumped off the cliff into the sea & drowned...There were others that Jesus cast out demons 😈 from as well 🙏 while He did His Ministry before being Crucified on the Cross ✝️ 🙏 for ALL of our sins 🙏...Are you saved/born again??! Do you know the Gospel of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ 🙏 ❤️??! If not, you can read & learn of it in 1st Corinthians 15:1-4 🙏 ❤...I recommend you read from the King James Version of the Bible though 🙏 ❤ because ALL of the other versions, the scriptures have been CHANGED & MANIPULATED by people that have been influenced by the WICKED, EVIL 😈 & CORRUPT spirit of Satan...The King James Version of the Bible IS the TRUE WORD OF GOD 🙏 ❤... God bless you & your family 🙏 ❤ & I will be praying 🙏 ❤ for you ALL 🙏 ❤...

What a scary scary man 😨
I’m with you Bruce, I had really c*ap parents. A father who scared me, he only had to look at with that look and I’d wet myself in fear, he was cold, unloving and controlling. He told us often that he doesn’t care if we hate him as long as we respect him - I have nothing to do with him now and I certainly don’t respect him.
I adored my mother but it took me to become an adult and have my own children to realise how selfish she was/is and how bad of a mother she was/is. Very draining on the soul 😢
But like you Bruce, it spurred me on and I knew I was going do better and to be the parent and human I would have loved , to my own children.
I guessed I learned how NOT to parent!

I said why didn't u just give it to another family, she said oh I couldn't bear that, I couldn't bear for anyone else to love her, if I couldn't I'd sooner she put down....and so it was...no doubt similar to this guy when u asked about what makes them do it.

It is wild that serious psychiatric help was available to him (not all of us have that option) but instead he isolated himself in the woods, spent thousands on a bunker along with the physical labor involved and building that stupid thing. This is very rare insight into seeing in real time the isolation and narrating of his own thoughts. The only glimmer of light in this is seeing what wonderful and amazing people his wife and daughter were. I hope they’ll always be remembered for who they were. They blessed us with sharing their lives with us. Can’t say the same for the heinous murderer.
