Sure that all the Macs fully agree that Derek was THE voice of the group, even amongst all their fine voices, he really attacked every song he performed and wrung every last note from it. He was also a lovely, lovely man. Fondest memory is of having a few beers after THAT show at Dynamic Earth and remembering the times in the 70's when the Macs came down to Lancashire. So sad he was taken so soon, still remembered and never forgotten.

Oh, I miss to hear Hamish Bayne on the drum. I saw and heard them as a Ladd in Nakskov in Denmark in 76 and in 80', quite an experience.

Smuggler, in the McCalmans' version one of my favorite folk songs, and they are one of the best vocal bands I have heard. I was fortunate to experience them twice, in Denmark. Oh what good memories. Thanks for uploading.
[Edit] They omited the third verse? They had four verses on their album version.

Those were the days! I went to all concerts they gave in my city or nearby, and it were plenty. Until one day, we stood happy at the entrance when I saw the tour poster with a unknown man, and the ticketlady told me of Derek´s death. I spent most of the concert in the restoom sobbing. I never found it in myself to visit another concert, although the new singer was very good.

@@bisibisbi 😢 That's a sad story. After all those years and concerts it must have been like losing a friend.
The big "folk music boom" ran out while I was a child. While I from my father learned to love Scottish & Irish folk music it lost most of its audience in Denmark. Even bands like McCalmans and Dubliners only came on rare visits, and I never saw the McCalmans again. I'm grateful that I did when I had the chance.
I had a very strong experience when Johnny Cash died. I was never that much into Johnny Cash. Some of his songs I loved. I really enjoyed his St. Quentin live record. That was that. I didn't know the rest of his work, I was never that interested.
I was playing "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" on my PC. I could play for hours and days. The radio in the background told me that Johnny Cash was dead. I got a shock.
I stood up. I couldn't clear my thoughts. But I couldn't concentrate on anything. After some time I noticed I was slowly walking around in circles on the same spot. And I couldn't bother. I couldn't play the game again. I couldn't do anything else inside. I couldn't do my garden. I couldn't cook food. Best I could was try to return to the game, but after a short while I was walking around in circles again.
It was like a cartoon. For 3 full days I was walking around in circles with a dizzy head. For several years later I could see marks on the floor where I had walked.
After 3 days I "woke up", able to function again. I could conclude that Johnny Cash must have meant a lot more to me than I was ever aware of. It has all been subliminal. Until then. Well, now I know what a real shock is when it's more than just an expression.

@@larsrons7937 Sometimes we only realize after years how much someone or something meant to us. In the end, after having mourned, we mostly learn to cherish how much it gave us (and, thanks for Cds) still gives us and treasure our memories.

@@bisibisbi Those are true words. I think the same can be said about all we have lost. And we must cherish the moments when we think of them.
A bit related, in Tut-Ankh-Amon's grave was written something like _"Keep saying my name and I shall live forever."_ In a sense that's true. People live on when we remember them.
