  • Marc Davis tells us about the soon-to-open attraction The Haunted Mansion. Also, Museum of the Weird.
Rolly Crump mentions never build Museum of the Weird.
You can see the New Orleans Square video under "Pirates of the Caribbean Construction - Part 1". Although that video is of the re-run that was aired after Walt died, it is basically the same as the original (that is, until you hear a voice over narration). I will post up the minor differences in a separate video.

I think he'd be more than satisfied with the finished attraction. The Haunted Mansion has by far some of the best illusions and effects out of any other attraction of its time. Even to this day it still holds up.

I agree. Thank god they haven't ruined the Haunted Mansion. For some reason, I feel like this is one of the only rides that will stand the test of time, and won't be removed or altered too significantly. This ride has historic importance by this point. It's land-mark within the park itself. Thank you to the imagineers that oversee the haunted mansion, and keep it spooky. Just as Walt and the other designers would have wanted.

He always gets confused! "What do we call it? House of illusions? - Marc: Tha Haunted Mansion... Then with crump, he does it again! He was such a great person.

It's too bad that Walt Disney never saw the Haunted Mansion complete. It opened on August 9, 1969. Just less than 3 years after his death.

It gives chills just hearing walt disney say the names of the attraction... "The Haunted Mansion"... it just let's you know that out of all attractions to make Walt wanted the Haunted Mansion, but family friendly horror style

Gotta be one of my favorite videos regarding The Haunted Mansion and Uncle Walt. Love the silly way that even before the Mansion opened, some of the objects were haunted. And Rolly lives the next city over from me in Carlsbad, California!

I love how Disney actually made a wanted ad for spirits to live in the haunted mansion when it opened. Disney was so great and its sad to see how much of the magic that he made has kinda turned into a profit making scheme.

A lot of the subtleties in the stretching portraits have been unfortunately lost over the years. The original paintings wore down with all the stress of the stretching room pulling and rubbing on them all the time. They have to be replaced by copies (sometimes much poorer quality copies) every few years after they fade. So it's more than possible that Davis' original work has a far greater level of detail than what you might see today.

Well, Disney hasn't abandoned the idea it seems, since D23 this year, Disney and Marvel seems to hint a comic book that might lead into a movie that has been planned for awhile or maybe realize Walt's idea for the ride

I thought he died in 66. But that's not the point. In this video, he was obviously still alive when they were working on Haunted Mansion. He died before they finished, but they aparantly had more drawn out then I thought before he died

This is more proof that they knew what was going into the Haunted Mansion before he died and not years later afterwards as the company wants you to think.

Although to be fair, walt was a grown man living in the 40's-60's, he wasn't an absolute stranger to swearing.
