- Disney D23′s Armchair Archivists tracked down Walt Disney's last filmed appearance which was on 27 October 1966. This was a few days before doctors discovered Walt Disney had a tumor on his lung. Sadly he died on 15 December 1966. In the clip Walt talks about The Happiest Millionaire featuring British pop singer Tommy Steel which was in production at the time. alll right reserved - d23 walt disney company.

I don't know about Kurt Russell, but my grandmother talks about him all the time, so in a sense, I have to agree with you. Since she watches a lot of TCM, I guess he really was a great actor

Thing is..he NEVER said that before. They say he always said "see you tomorrow", but in his final days, he said goodbye.

Walt Disney was a man of his time, he's been accused of racism, antisemitism, sexism and many other descriptions. But the reality is that the average person from that period could be accused of the same thing. It doesn't mean we have to agree with it or like it, especially now with our more advanced ideals, but atleast we can recognize that Disney was a visionary who created worlds and characters that enchanted us in childhood and posses a special place in the hearts of millions of people. Stop bitching about his failings as a human compared to our modern standards and enjoy what he has created. It isn't fair to compare him to our ideas of PC. It is, however, fair to judge how his stories have held up over time. And I think that his stories, and those of the studio he created, are timeless and unforgettable. So enjoy Disney's work for what it was and is, and leave your judgement behind, because it's not relevant or helpful.

i often think the same overall i think he would be pleased he would find Pixar very intresting and would be very curios over the technology they have to offer and would be pleased that they aquired that, he would of loved the disney Renasciance with all those classics coming out such as Beauty and the beast, Lion King ,Aladdin ect he would also be pleased about the disney revival as i call it with Tangled and Frozen i don't think he would be pleased thou that disney has basically abanoned traditonal animation i think he would love CGI but he knows that Traditonal animation also plays a big part , he would be dissapointed about what Epcot became and the Disney Channel he would hate , he would hate how Micky Mouse in Micky Mouse clubhouse is just a toddler show and embarrased by alot of the actors that have come out of Disney Brittney Spears, Miley Cyrus,Shia LaBeouf also the shows they produce i'm not shore how he would think of the accusations of Marvel or Lucasfilms i think he would be pleased Maker STudios he would defintley be getting into the growing media on CZcams would be something he see's that should be done, he would see Dreamworks and Anime as big rivals, he would of enjoyed who framed Roger Rabit while his rivals charatcers were there he would realise how much of an impact it would be too see Micky Mouse and Bugs Bunny on screen and how it would thrill many children, he would like the Disney Parks around the world as well and glad they have been a success.
I have to agree with you on most of what you said, I'm guessing he would be quite disappointed with the disney channel turning more into a teenage channel, and i'm sure he would be proud that disney is making three more starwars movies but I don't think he would know much about them since I'm guessing starwars came out in the 80's, but anyhow he would be majorly disgusted with some of the former teen actors who worked on Disney Channel mostly including Miley cyrus , but overall he would be very proud with his company today and I'm sure he is now watching from the heavens, but he would be terrified of the suicide mouse creepypasta.

He was also in involved in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, since one of the shorts Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree was released in his lifetime and was involved in production of Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day
He was sadly never even able to see it in it's entirety because it released in '67

I think deep down, Walt knew his wouldn't be around to see his latest projects complete. He left behind a legacy for all of us. His films were a part of my childhood like everyone else. Thank you, Walt.

Walt Disney was a great man. He pioneered animation and the technology behind it. We lost a great man when he died. Unfortunately Walt didn't pass on his innovative attitude to the rest of the company and it became bloated after he died.

Walt Disney was an absolutely wonderful person with the biggest, and kindest heart, if only people knew the risks of smoking then what we thankfully do today, Disney had lung cancer from smoking, a young 65 I know people in perfect health at 95, life expectancy if a person takes really good care of themselves is increasing dramatically which is very positive. Health is true wealth.
Actually, the potential risks of smoking were common knowledge years before. It wasn't until the 1966 that the government started requiring warnings on packs of cigarettes. But, that occurred long after the risk became known. I remember hearing reports about the risks of smoking in the late 50s. My dad, a physician, used to bring home articles on the subject in an effort to convince my mother (a very light smoker) and her mother (a heavy smoker) to quit. My mom did, but my grandmother didn't.
And it is true that the tobacco companies had been long aware of the hazards, and had been fighting the labeling required for years before they were mandated. They still continue to deny that cigarettes are addictive or unhealthy.l
Notwithstanding the well documented risk of smoking, people still smoke, and kids are starting up daily. When you are young, you feel invincible and refuse to believe that smoking is harmful. That's why the tobacco companies like to start them young.
Smoking is such an addictive habit, that it is unlikely that a heavy smoker like Disney would have stopped. It also bring to mind Johnny Carson who, while fully aware of the risks, continued to smoke ... ultimately dying from emphysema.
Actually 20% of people who get lung cancer never smoked. So really smoking isn't the main cause. My Grandfatherwas 100 when he died.He smoked and drank at parties.

My Mom was the oldest living woman in her mothers side She was 73 when she died she smoked. Died of brain cancer. I'm NOT saying smoke but if you do you do. Other things kill people TOO are you going stop thoughs things too?
@@austinklein1172 Smoking is way too demonized and that's a big problem, becuase kids that start to smoke believe that the parents are just exaggerating the risk, which is actually kind of true... I never smoked in my life, but my parents never demonized smoke for me, they just told me that smoking was bad for me, kind of like not eating vegetables is bad. I believed them and growing up I did my research about smoking and decided I would never smoke. But I believe that a few cigarettes here and then aren't as bad as they say they are.
You just don't get that personal feeling anymore like the way Walt did... So sad... You can tell that Walt LOVED what he did and how everyone that was watching his films or visiting his parks were like family... Something that is so long gone in today's society...
There was a story of Walt visiting the park and playing with the whistle on the Mark Twain so much that the crew had to ask him to stop because they'd run out of steam. He was a one of a kind.

Walt accomplished more in his short life than a million average people combined. What a boring world we would be living in, without him. He brought people and ideas together, and saw more potential in everyone than they knew they had within them.
Even though you can hear him really struggling to breathe, he still had a way of making you hang on his every word. It's like magic...

What's weirder is that the person you see here and his iconic personality is for the most part an act. Walt was a very introverted, shy and sadly self-depricating man with self-esteem issues. Since he was Walt goddamn Disney though, he built a far more outgoing persona for his public appearances. May also explain why he smoked his entire life which was eventually what killed him. The man himself identified as two people; Walter Disney the shy businessman and Walt Disney the outgoing caring tycoon. Very kind man though even with his more negative traits. Not a man to give much praise beyond "that'll do" but very generous with raises.
I've said it before and I will say it again Walt was a great man who deserves his legendary status and the respect of young and old Disney fans a like.

I am not sure if it's just Walt, or just the way things were done back then, but I love how much personalisation went into the annoucement of a new film. It's almost like a teacher telling children of a new fun lessen, or a business owner informing his staff over a new change that he is excited about.
There is so much passion and pride when he speaks of his film project. It is completely contagious, and you are excited along with him. His heart and soul was in everything he did.

Why do I feel sick watching this? We remember Walt Disney

Not when the cast members actually act like they appreciate my jokes. Just got back from DW last week. I spontaneously said to a woman selling fans, that those fans are --- cool. She replied, "Very punny, mister."
I was also on the wrong side of a white line and a cast member pointed out that I needed to be on the other side of the line. I said that I noticed the line and thought there was a 50/50 chance I was supposed to be on the side I was on - guess I was wrong. She laughed.
In Sleeping Beauty's Castle a cast member was telling someone they had to go to a bibbity bobbity room or something. I stopped and said the bibbitity bibboity bobbity ...? She tried to help me, bibbity bobbity - I interrupted, you mean the bibbitity bobbitity bibbity bibbity bibbity... oh... She then finished what I was trying to say. I finally just said, "easy for you to say" - she laughed. Was fun to play along with them. Hope they appreciated some of my humor as well.
One of the few theme parks anymore where you can still bring in your own food and drinks (little known fact - just let security know!). My 2.5 yr old who was clueless to many of the characters (no longer!) loved it.
I think Disney would love the current state of Disneyworld, at least the Magic Kingdom which is best for my child's age from what I have heard.
Now the TSA at Orlando -- don't get my started on THEIR attitudes!

Yes. That would be cool - I think the need for a profit has something to do with that - not sure if a utopian society would work with that in mind. It reminds me a bit of the Venus Project idea; especially the architecture. Now an airport I have not heard of, but as long as they'd have friendlier TSA agents, I'd be okay with it!

Everyone is talking about how they wonder if Walt would be disappointed with how Disney is now but what lead me to find this video is actually the opposite. I can't help what Walt would think about how big Disney has become. It grew greatly in his time but it has become even greater. Disney resonates deep within in so many of us, I wonder what he would think of generations being Disney lovers. Many of us ( I know not all) are taken back and in a moment of awe when we hear the old Disney songs. We feel warm and happy thinking about it. Even if there are things that he may not agree with I imagine he'd be in more amazement of what "Disney" has accomplished.
He might be happy with the influence the company has had on society, the footprint he left, but I doubt he'd be happy with the vast and unjustifiable consumerist hell (not that I dislike consumerism or capitalism inherently) he indirectly created. Former employees talk shit on the company all the time. At least they value safety and relative quality in their films.
I recall the occasion when I learned that Walt Disney had died; I was a ten year old in the schoolyard of a Burbank school (Disney died in St. Joseph's Hospital, a few miles down Buena Vista St. - my father died there seventeen years later). A teacher had told us. I recall feeling bereft - the man who was behind Disneyland, one of my favorite places in the world? I said something about how sad it was, and a kid said, "Whattaya gonna do - cry?" I recall thinking, "Hasn't this kid ever been to Disneyland?"
I was ten years old too in Dec. of 1966 when Walt passed away. I remember seeing it on the TV news and reading his obit on the front page of our local paper. I didn't get to go down to Orange County and visit Disneyland for the first time until 1974. Visited it again in the mid-90s. Fun & fascinating place !!

Walt Disney wanted to make a movie from the Hans Christian Andersons story the snow queen. Also known today as frozen, it took them 75 years to make that dream come true. Honestly I think he would like it. I know why you guys he's wouldn't, it's new, it's not like the original disney movies but honestly Walt Disney was all about new ways of storytelling.

Walt, thank you for being such a huge part of mine (and so many others') childhoods. Even as an adult pushing 50, your films are still on my watch list. And I still can't get enough of Disneyland & Disney World. Thank you Walt, for bringing so much happiness to the world.
I remember when he passed away and we we got out of school early and my bus driver cried the whole time. He was a great man and going to see a Disney movie wasn't an outing - it was an event that was highly anticipated. Based on what I have heard him say the reason he wanted his best films released only every seven years was so that the quality would not diminish and that person would see the same picture differently as they got older and appreciate it more. I believe he was right because now that everything is mass marketed it gets old quickly. The same concept made Elvis so famous because he didn't do talk shows & wasn"t constantly seen in public which made the mystery of him more appealing. I would love to see the Disney classics back on the big screen again!

Still remember the day when Walts death was announced in my third grade classroom. Thank you WD for what you gave us. I take my family to Disneyland at least once a year and stay about a week.
I was born in Southern California in 1965. I grew up watching the wonderful world of Disney every Sunday night and watching Walt Disney talk about different subjects. As far as I knew he was alive. I went to a Catholic school for a few years when I was in fifth grade so that would be around 1975. At the time we went to a field trip at Forest lawn cemetery to see the stain glass window of the last supper. Some friends of mine and myself ventured outside and poked around and looked at some other graves and I stumbled across Walt Disney’s grave. I was actually very surprised that he was deceased. but found out later that he was and had been for most of my life. I guess that’s the magic.
Today's the 55th anniversary of Walt Disney's passing. Without him, we would've live a world as we know today. RIP Walt.
Two weeks after filming this, Disney learned he had terminal lung cancer. A month after that he was dead. The last thing he wrote on his deathbed was "Kurt Russell". No one knows what he meant by that, including Russell.
Walt was referring to future projects and one of the actors included being Kurt Russell, Kurt himself confirmed this on the View.

I'm homeschooled and my mom wants me to do a book report on somebody. I immediately chose Walt. I searched this up to see what he sounded like. I watched a movie about him. I'm reading about him. Man, I wish that I could've met him.

+Kyra Renee The Happiest Millionaire apparently was the last live-action film whose production he supervised, while The Jungle Book was the last animated film he oversaw.
I watched it for the first time just a few weeks ago on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) during a salute to Disney films. Leonard Maltin was the host. He said it was one of Walt's few flops. I can see why....it was WAY too long at three hours. it was a period piece (set in 1914), so the budget was tremendous. And it had too many songs...none of them memorable. They seem to break into song about every 15 min or so. But it had truly xlnt performances by a very talented cast....especially Tommy Steele, Lesley Ann Downs and Fred MacMurray.
@@CCRoxtar You are right....Walt also supervised one other life action film that was not finished before his passing: "Blackbeard's Ghost", which starred Peter Ustinov and Dean Jones. Filming had been finished on "The Happiest Milliionaire" before Walt died....but it was in post production at the time of his passing & was not released to theaters till the following yr (1967). The "Blackbeard" flick didn't get released till '68.

Another thing to be noted in his time of all the work done, knowing showbiz your are as good as you last productions in it's returns, whatever stresses of bussiness they were going through both brothers, let's not forget Mr Roy's contribution to keep everything afloat, not even once quality and standard of work dropped, nor the sense of fun enjoying the work of his creations they way he did.
Good ol' Walt would be sad & disappointed to see what a cash grab his company has become.
It's not just how expensive everything is that Disney charges it's customers - it's how mediocre, bland & lackluster everything is that they bring to market these days. Cashing in on the old classics with these terrible, cheesy remakes that only tarnish the legacy of the originals
Sacrificing the wholesome, family values they've been known for all these years just to be "woke" & "with it"
How the attractions in the parks now just rely on IP's instead of imaginative concepts. Walt knew how to do both. He used his beloved characters but knew when to forego them too for something original

Disney was a truly influential figure for mankind until the very final days. Osamu Tezuka, the "father" of Japanese mangas, was really inspired by him and other artists, he dreamed being as incredible and famous as Disney and ended popularizing mangas and animes in Japan and eventually would reach the world as now. History is simply amazing.
