    I once looked at a E350 Dynamax very similar to this priced at $275K. It didn't have the ground clearance, leveling system, 41 inch tires, beadlock wheels, solar capacity, winches, 90 gallon tanks or light bar. Just the price difference between a E350 van and heavy-duty F550 chassis alone is at least $50K. And then you have the one-piece fiberglass body as opposed to aluminum/steel glued/screwed construction that's ALWAYS gonna break down after a few years or leak water/snow. The quality of the cabinetry looks to be very high end and the customized storage is well thought out.
    There aren't that many off-road capable RV's out there and this has some seriously good specs and impressive features. I would say $500K is fair game for the capability being shown here.

      Not necessarily. If he bought one at $450,000, a 36 month payment plan would be $12,550. If his payments are really $13,000 a month then that's $468,000 over 36 months. These start at $438,000.

    I have a 2015 and its...amazing isn't the word, but its an incredible RV go anywhere vehicle. Other RVs I have had, from Class A to 5th wheels to cab over campers, can't hold a match to this. One piece construction with enough solar panels to easily run the coach. Also all marine grade electronics which the RV industry is only now incorporating and only in high end units. No slide outs...which was a key factor for me. Solar panels are impact resistant against terminal velocity hail storms. Also an electric fridge that doesn't need to be level to work, unlike the traditional RV units. I do not have the out door TV, which is stupid in my opinion or the front infra red camera, but pretty much everything else. I average about 10 mpg and carry an additional 20 gallons which gives me about 1100 miles of range. I might go through a tank of fuel every 3 months and have been to a RV campground only a few times as I simply do not need the services they provide. Water, electricity and dump station, I don't need them.
    For security in remote places I use blue tooth speakers, extended out up to 50 feet, so I can literally play any sound I choose, From a mountain lion to a 12 gauge being chambered to a Grizzly bear or any other sound I choose and the sound is as real as it gets as each unit has a 5 watt amplifier on board. Also all around I have motion detection led lights that are set for around 15 to 20 feet which is medium setting. least sensitive setting is 5 to 10 feet and max is 30 feet. I also carry a high end drone that I can fly up fairly high so I can see what is going on around me...its my eye in the sky. I can record video, snap photo's. That along with camera's on left and right side mirrors and in back and one up front. If a bear comes around, I have used Jurassic Park dinosaurs sounds and its very effective. For the human element I use Big dog Barking, mountain lions or a 12 gauge being chambered all from the comfort of my bed using s smart phone. If does not work, I pop the escape hatch with a real 12 gauge and night vision of which I have never had to do, but always backup backup and more backup. I can disable the motion detectors with a push of button and just watch the wild life wander around and or scare them off with a blue tooth speaker or light up the entire area with parameter lights. Shy of drone and night vision the entire system was about 300 bucks...of which any RVer who camps in remote area's should have on their rig
    Now the Earth Roamer is expensive and you could put together pretty much any other rig together for much less, but it will not do what the Earth Roamer does. You can pretty much go anywhere were you would never think about taking a Class A or a 5th Wheel and most cab over campers. The question often comes up what if there is not enough sun light to recharge the batteries...have yet to run into that but if it did happen, because there is no generator, you fire up the main truck motor. I even have a water maker that makes more water then I can use, per day so the excess goes into the main tank and as for grey water, it can be dumped pretty much anywhere. The cassette black tank also can be dumped at any rest stop or camp facility or if way out in the middle of no where, dig a hole and dump it as its all chemically treated.
    Again this is NOT a cheap vehicle by any means but its 100% self sufficient for extended off grid adventures or a great bug out vehicle in case of emergency. You can leave it fully packed including refrigerator and freezers, of which I have 2 as long as the solar panels get light and your good to go, any time and pretty much anywhere. No RV is perfect, but its what is right for you, and this was right for me. I have short wave radio, internet boost antenna and cell phone extender on the roof. I even have 1 year of storeable long term food storage tucked away. Like I said this is not a cheap rig, but once your in, its just fuel and insurance and maintenance other then that, I've had no problems at all. These are cost associated with any vehicle. Its cheaper then owning a home which you can't move.
    I've never really had security issues except for wildlife which are not that big of deal and when around people everyone wants a tour of this rig. Some of these people are driving 500,000 and up rigs and they can't do half of what I can do or go anywhere near where I can go.

    I will never understand making such a huge rig an offroad rig. You can't go hardly anywhere offroad with it except the desert because it's too big to fit anywhere. Give me a Rubicon with an offroad trailer for $75,000 total, and I'll use the other $400,000 saved to get a nice piece of property on a lake with several acres

    Like the concept but don't see it as a $500K value. Even with its capabilities I think it still competes in the RV category. Why not buy a $200K RV and tow your $100K 4x4?

    • @sonictech1000
      @sonictech1000 Před 7 lety +25

      Tully3674 That's an entirely different style of camping then what this was designed for. Many of the places we camp in our truck camper would be completely inaccessible in a normal RV and forget towing anything.

    • @PIchillin456
      @PIchillin456 Před 7 lety +42

      Tully3674 For most people a $200K RV and a 4x4 would be perfect. But that would not suit the needs of Earthroamer customers. The people who buy these things aren't going out on weekend adventures where they can just park the RV and use the 4x4 to get to harder to reach areas. These people want a vehicle that they can live in for weeks at a time as they travel places where there are no roads while being completely self-sufficient. There's no other vehicle out there that could realistically fit that bill. Also, just because you don't see the value doesn't mean it's not worth every penny of its half a million dollar price tag. This is a completely custom vehicle. The truck body is modified and strengthened. The chassis is heavily modified and lengthened. The camper body is a completely custom one-piece design that is both extremely strong and capable of keeping the truck well insulated in extreme temperatures. Every single interior piece is handmade in-house. You wont see that level of craftsmanship in the interiors of other RVs that cost the same. When you consider the amount of work and engineering that they put into these things, the price is completely reasonable. It's just that most people, like you, don't need it. For you it absolutely would not be worth it. But these always have and always will be a niche. The owners of these vehicles love them and are happy to pay the money.

      Because you obviously don't know what OVERLANDING is. It isn't real popular in the US. Check out the Western Australia overlanding channels. It looks really fun though I doubt this vehicle would make it through what they do. Serious overlanding is done by packing all your gear as lightly as possible and still using a ground tent or roof top tent. Some also use off road trailers that have roof top tents on them.

    Having seen a couple out on the road, my only real gripe is the tire and wheel set up. Military tires are rated for way more weight than this thing weighs and they really aren't highway friendly... That's part of the reason military convoys are so slow, the tires aren't rated for much over 60mph. The ride quality of the tire is probably the driving force behind the air ride system.
    Plus the F550 chassis cabs are normally dual rear wheel, so the brakes are mounted close to the frame rails to accommodate the inner wheel. The two piece single tire rims mount far enough out, that the entire rear brake assembly is exposed. If you watch a couple of the videos on Earthroamer's site, you can see the exposed brakes. In one of them you can see the tracks the brakes make in the mud...
    However I get the luxury part, and it does have a lot of it. But comparing this to a bigger RV is stupid. A standard RV that costs this much won't go half the places this will before you factor in the Earthroamer has 4wd and 21 inches of ground clearance. At least in this you can pull up to pretty much any gas station with diesel and fill up. Those large RVs, you will be looking for truck stops or stations that can accommodate semi trucks.
    I love the concept, but a not high end luxury model would be cool. For those of us who want 4 season camping, but don't need wine or TV...

      my whole point was that you dont need $500k worth of f550 to go "camping". an rv defeats the entire point of the outdoors. a big screen tv again defeats the purpose. pretty much anywhere you can go in this you could get to in a pickup truck, go to a hotel at the end of the day, charge your phone, watch a big screen tv on the full sized bed and have over $450k left over to enjoy, and not make it obvious to everyone who might see you that you are compensating.

    Wow if I win the lottery I know what I'm buying! But with all the intricate systems in that unit, you will need a fat checkbook to stay ahead of any issues, even in warranty, mainly cause you will need to get it back to ER for service of the camper unit. But also you will have to like being the center of attention wherever you go where there are other people about.

    *half a million*... and they are worried about factory drive train warranty??? If I'm not buying it from ford, the warranty is on them... And for 500 grand, they better air-drop a replacement... I'm not the one that's going to deal with a dealership!
    that said... all that, built on a Ford factory frame, engine, and drive line, is a joke. And I'd bet my left nut, Ford would tell you to go pound sand if you took it in with a shot trans... or busted axle.
    I'm sure these are flying off the shelves. 😂

      Maybe he's annoyed about saying the same thing for interviewer after interviewer, but swallow that shit. Business is business. Make a half million dollar vehicle presentable!

    Love these EArthroamer trucks. Looked at the options list though; they charge $7K for a 32" TV on a swing arm with a bose speaker. About $500 worth of kit for $7K! These trucks are only for people with money to burn.

    These things are awesome, but it just seems like that they are too large to practically get into the spaces (i.e. through the trails) that require this sort of capability. Even something like a short bed crew cab f-150 is going to be fairly large and difficult to get on a lot of trails. You certainly don't need 41s and a ton of suspension upgrades to roll down a fire road. And unless you hire a crew with chainsaws to clear a wide swath of trail, you aren't getting in most of the tighter places with one of these. So that leaves the desert I guess. Considering you can do the Alcan / Dempster / etc... in a 2wd honda accord, I'm not sure where one of these comes in handy.
