    18,500 lbs dry! OK...he didn't get to it, but the engine is going to be the Ford 6.7 turbo diesel. What most people don't know is that the F350, F450 and F550 all run the same engine only the frame and chassis is different to carry more weight. The F550 is designed with a Maximum GVWR
    of 19, 500 lbs. At 18,500 dry, means wet you are going to be close or over on your GVWR limits which also means you are running the enigne at max or near load at all times. Cool truck, top of the line interior but too heavy for serious off road camping. I actually looked at these to get an idea of what I wanted for long term off road RVing all over the west. This is my current set up at a cost of around 75K. I bought a used 2009 F350 Lariat so it's the same cab and interior as this truck. I bought the truck used and found the engine was blown so the dealer agreed to pay for a new engine. I went to have the work done at Optimum Diesel in Tennessee (best Diesel Mechanics on the East Coast BTW) and he told me...you know for about $1500 more I can put a 6.7 Cummins in it for you. So that's what I have now, and it's the best running truck you can imagine. For a camper I went with a Northern Lite 10-2 EXCD SE. Total weight with camper wet and everything else including bikes etc runs around 10,700 lbs. I could have gone cheaper for the Camper, but when you look at the quality, luxury and what you get in the NL 10-2 EXCD SE, especially at the light weight (it's a two piece fiberglass design) it has paid off in spades. I have gone out in the deserts in Utah, over mining roads in Colorado and everywhere in between with no problems. The reason I'm posting this is just so people know you can get close to what the Earthroamers are but at a fraction of the cost, can really go off road and can stay in a top of the line camper while doing it. Oh...one more benefit...I can drop the camper and use my truck as a truck when not camping or if I have to run to town for supplies...Winning!!

    • @errilhl
      @errilhl Před 5 lety +2

      A LOT cheaper, but nowhere near same finish or ability - although the engine option sounds like a good choice - that is probably possible on an EarthRoamer as well, though, if you ask for it. Just watched a walkthrough of the Northern Lite... it's really not the same thing, not even close.

Look the people that buy these things are NEVER going to go serious off-road which is sure why you don’t put them in but they will be there if you need them and one hell of a selling point. Go air lockers so they only need to use them when they need them.

    I’m from Costa Rica living in Texas now been around the world a couple times, when I need to buy any thing I make sure it is made in US but when it comes to vehicles it is completely the opposite, and trust me I use them (ford all sizes) at work almost every day, it is very hard to me to explain to friends here in US about the other reliable trucks because they never heard about it like MAN, Zetrus, Unimog, Iveco, Fuso,Toyota Hilux Diesel... it is like if someone comes from another planet and tell me about some others better trucks that I never ever hear about it, I feel like the EarthRoamer is a beautiful home built on top of a crystal platform, for me it is just an expensive limousine I can’t imagine seeing one in Mongolia, South Africa or Morocco’s deserts.
    Sorry I forgot to mention the Toyota Tundra hahaha (The Traveling Together Journal👍)

  • @JustinCaseSolarPower

    Wheel base is to long for the size of light truck. That equates to a very low ground clearance in rough terrain / rocky creak crossings and long sharp sand dunes. Looks good. but as an earth cruiser its it could get you stuck in some very remote places. They did not put a lot of thinking into it just went for the WOW it looks nice factor.

      Wrong. I have visited their factory when I lived in Colorado. The fit and finish quality is premium. People say the same thing about Ferraris and Bentleys, but when you see how well they are engineered and manufactured, you'll see that you get what you pay for. You may not want to pay it, but it IS worth it.

  • @charles-antoinegrenier8836

    I can understand the price. There isn't a lot of companies that offer that kind of quality. Everything is custom fab and the engineered is insane. Plus the company needs to make profit on it. It's unique and a niche market. Even if it was 100k less, they probably would have the same amount of customers.

    Almost perfect. I wish they made the kitchen table longer instead of adding couches. Add tools to eat on kitchen counter. Also, instead of the diner table and two benches, they should’ve extended the restroom to be a full-sized shower with glass door and dry sink/toilet. Imagine that option?

    I know alot of people dream of off-grid use, like boat owners!
    I would get a trailer to this, for fuel / generator! Any vibrations the generator creates, un-hitch the trailer few feet away and just enjoy for a long period of time, if needed! +Utility / extra solar.. whatever

    I have a earthroamer xv and it’s good but it has som downsides, it,s heavy over 7 tons witch makes off-roading on a soft trail a nightmare the tires sink in the road and it hates to go up steep rock hills, it’s like a rollercoaster ride when off-roading, besides that IT’S AWESOME

    A custom Unimog is significantly more off-road capable, useful and cheaper than $600k.

    • @Frindleeguy
      @Frindleeguy Před 5 lety +2

      Where? A new unimog here in the states starts over 100k. With the options on this chassis, it'd be closer to 150k. Sll the kit they added plus labor would be well over 550k out the door. I don't think people realize this isn't homemade. You can do it cheaper- you can't buy it cheaper.

    • @b4ds33d

      Emp Ty You’ve clearly never bought a unimog. You could pay a couple hundred K for a unimog base vehicle.

      @@antonhofmann1796 Vat, export, import, sales tax, exchange rate... I bet yours is more expensive by the time it gets to Colorado. And it's not better than this "shitbox" lol, so judgey. I drove the big deuce and a halves and 5 tons in the US Army - just because something is stiffer and weighs twice as much doesn't mean better. There are a lot of factors, a lot of engineering that go into chassis design. You can not simply say a beefier frame is a better frame, it's not that easy. But I'm sure you know way more than anyone else on the internet, so I take it all back - you win ;) Gratz, the internet is yours.
