  • I finally share the story of how and why I went grey! I've never dyed my hair, so my silver journey started when I was 13. I bet you have at least some questions about this - and if I haven't answered it in this video, just let me know in a comment.
    ❤ If you were wondering... I only hold on to silly stories to share them later for the lolz❤

    Anna, your hair reminds me of Sophie from "Howl's Moving Castle" if you haven't seen the movie it's about an 18 year old girl cursed by a witch who turned her into a 90 year old lady, by the end of the movie when Sophie manages to break the spell, she keeps her hair gray and Howl tells her "Sophie your hair looks just like starlight, it's beautiful". That's what your hair is Anna, Starlight.

    One girl in my early 30s friend group has two white streaks in her hair. One girl asked the guys in our group what they thought of it and was outraged when they said it was sexy. She demanded to know why and tried to convince them it wasn't. I thought it said a lot about her own insecurity, but was also interesting to hear the male perspective.

    • @midsummernight9431
      @midsummernight9431 Před 4 měsíci

      Wow... Would she react that way whenever people regardless of gender say that graying hair/visably aging looks good/sexy/charming/smart etc on men, I wonder? Or would she rather prefer all guys want unequal beauty standards ONLY? That women have to be pressured to pay MUCH MORE of their money, work, time, mental health/anxiety striving MUCH HARDER than men to look as young as possible, dying every gray hair throughout several decades? Would she prefer those old, opressive, unequal beauty standards for men vs women never changed for the better -for her own gender?! She must have been EXTREMELY jealous to go on like a basic bimbo 12-year old, I think.. That story reminds me mostly of some schoolgirls in my class at that tender/sexually insecure age between childhood and teens.. It would be the smartest thing, come to think of it, to dye silver/white streaks in ones hair from an early age -ESPECIALLY as a girl/woman in a culture that capitalizes on girls/women being insecure, anxious and mentally ill about not looking young enough (or not enough of whatever beauty standard). You can get smart with what you spend your money on even if you lack the genes for going gray gradually from a very early age.. Because when your hair starts to go gray naturally, you are already used to it looking that way and no big deal... Saves LOADS of your mental health.

She was very fond of their hair and said their hair was so beautiful to her and she wished for it so badly. My mom actually went grey at around the same age, in much the same way. Her father died suddenly when she was a young teen, so perhaps there's some truth to your theory. When I was young, she used to wear it in a plait that reached long down her back. Nowadays, I'm growing my hair out and I want to end up with it at least as long as I remember hers. (She used to allow me to cling to it in the swimming pool as she'd tug me around in the water!) So far it's almost down to my butt... No greys for me yet though!

    Otherwise, I am short and babyfaced so I have a case of "keeps getting mistaken for a 16yo at 28". It used to be embarrassing, but now I fully embrace it because people tend to find me adorable, and I combine it with a Late Edwardian inspired clothing style for added confusion. As a consequence, I am highly successful with both kids and old people, because I look like I escaped a novel or a comics/remind them of a late family member. I'm blonde (my whole family on my dad's side is - we look like we walked straight out of an IKEA catalogue - doesn't help that we're also Swedish) but the older I've gotten, the more individual black hairs (my momma has dark brown hair, with parts that are black). At first I was like "what is this? a black hair?", started pulling it and realized, it's attached to my head! Now I have about 30 of them, spread all over my skalp and also have found some brown hair to mix it up and people think I have died my hair with highlights, as I literally now have everything from black to platin blonde on my head. In the winter (when we don't have ANY sunshine for months - yepp that's how far up North I am) it turns a grey-ish dirty blonde, but low and behold when the sun return, those lighter hairs sun bleach within a week or two, making it look like I'm re-dying my hair every few days, because they keep chaning. Now my friends (so people who see my hair without a hat) know that it's my natural hair, but sometimes some people still ask my, why I dye my hair so often and if I'm not worried that it will fall out (I haven't dyed my hair in years btw haha)

By high school had a few streaks and when I hit 25, I was already more than salt and pepper. I did dye my hair and it took about two years of no dying to grow it out shoulder length. It’s a beautiful silver color, and it got more compliments than any other color I have dyed it. Sadly, I got a wild hair in quarantine and dyed it hunter green. I’m starting the growing out process again because I miss my silver so much. But the hunter green has faded to a beautiful mint green and blends beautifully with my silver roots. It looks intentional. My stylist thinks it will turn completely white by the time I’m 40 which would be awesome. I’m 34 right now. It is nice to find someone else who went grey so early.

      For my specific case (diagnosed major depressive disorder for 10 years which got re-diagnosed 3 years ago to what I actually have: bipolar type2, borderline tendencies and general emotional instability)
      it's all about finding balance in my life. If I push myself to hard when I'm feeling amazing, I'm halfway down the depression vortex sooner or later😂.
      So I really cannot give you good advice, but I am on medication and go to two different therapies once a week and that helps a lot😅
      Edit on existentialism: be active, make things with your own hands, try to do stuff even If it seems irrelevant. Find the beauty in the moment, go into nature, find meaning in helping others, talk to people how they feel and tell them about how you feel;
      even if we are void of meaning in this great cosmos, we still are here and have experiences, love people and experience emotions. That could never be void of meaning for us.
      for me it helped alot.

    I'm surprised how many young people on here have started to turn grey. I started when I was about 16 or 17, now I'm 28. My brother also started in his teens but when we moved away from our Dad and the awful stress he caused my brother's hair went back to normal. So weird. Mine however has continued to go silvery grey, between many overly stressful years on the ranch with my Dad and then with my ex Husband I think that was the contributing factor for me. I have dark Auburn/brown so it's kind of contrasting. Most of mine is in the sides and back so doesn't show when my hair is down but rather when it's up. Which is how I have it mostly to protect it, but I have grey hairs that are long and go through the whole length of my waist length hair. I love how long yours is too! I hate how people think they should tell me I need to dye it or lop off all my hair. I mean I've had long hair my whole life, it's thick has red tints and had silvery hairs, I love my hair and it's pretty rude and bold of people to think they know best for it. I do find it a little weird though that my grey's are a completely different consistentsy that the colored. I think you mentioned that in another video.

There is a huge pressure on everyone, male/female/you name it, in terms of societal pressures, how to look, how to act, how your mental health should be, your income, from your status and to how you should live your life. It’s not just one group. Everyone gets it in one form or another and no one group has it worse than the other for a variety of reasons.
      The choice to conform to these standards is up to the individual. I know I’m certainly not conforming to any of them. Wear what you want. You don’t want to wear makeup? Don’t. Want to wear something most folks don’t find flattering? Do it because you want to. Do what makes you happy, not what you think others might be happy with (unless you are committing actual crimes.. then please don’t do that).
      I just found my first couple grey hairs recently (29) and honestly I’d love it if it went the same way as PrettyShepherd’s hair. I personally find it beautiful! Definitely attributing it to the stresses this year above and beyond covid. This year has just been one series of bad events, death, illness, mental health, physical injury, crippling financial destitution and misfortune. Hopefully next year isn’t as bad? But I’ve probably just jinxed myself there.. still a few weeks left in the year. Would be neat if my hair did have a sort of symbolic chrysalis transformation in response. I would have periods of furious acne and periods where I’d only get two or three bad pimples, but never fully gone. My face is so covered in acne scars and dark spots, I can’t cover it with makeup. I never really liked makeup anyway since I could never get a smooth appearance. I’m 23 now still with acne, but I don’t bother covering it up.
    The one comment I remember someone making about it was senior year in high school. My guy friend said my acne scars on my forehead and cheeks reminded him of cheetah spots and that they looked cool. He was a weirdo though, so we both just laughed.

    About the “was it enough stress to cause my hair to Grey” the body is a weird thing, in that it reacts to stress in such different ways, even if you yourself aren’t perceiving it as “enough stress”. So there is a chance that the stress could have potentially contributed to the greying. Doesn’t make it any less beautiful though

    It's so interesting to hear/see how different everyone's hair is. My mom's bangs started to go grey when she was in her late 20s. She dyed her hair for a long time. In her 50s she stopped colouring her hair (basically out of laziness) and she was amazed that still only her bangs are grey. Over the last years it got a little bit more, but it's still completely silver bangs (well she's not actually having bangs, but the hair growing in the area you would cut shorter for bangs. I'm not a native speaker, so I don't know how to describe it better) and just some grey hair between the rest.

    You seem like such a confidant person, and I love how you embrace your looks, it brings me to tears. I think that when someone embraces their appearance, it makes them even more beautiful. You asked if there was a particular feature that we are proud of. I struggled at first to find a good answer, but I eventually came to my eye color. My eyes are such a dark blue that people don't realize they're blue at first in normal or dark lighting, especially in photos. I think that's pretty cool.
    I hope to love my hair as much as you love yours one day. I don't really like my hair color too much even though it is also a very unique color (not quite blonde, not quite truly red). It's not a very bright color, it won't pick a side, agh! Sometimes this bums me out but I'm afraid to dye it so I must learn to live with it! It has a small pale blonde streak in the back though, which I really like. I'm still learning to love my appearance, it's a journey... a long journey... but I'll get there some day.

    My hair is curly, frizzy and fragile (and now at the age of 28 going grey) but it's not super curly like some thick haired goddesses. It's fairly thin. I've fought the frizz and still get self conscious about it. Finding unique people such as yourself helps though :)
    I wish more curly haired people understood how important the cut of one's hair is for it to look good.
    Also I wish less hairdressers would blowdry my curly hair (without diffuser) while scrunching it with mousse saying "this will really bring out your curls!" and then let me leave looking like a limp poodle.
