Grog's speech about having no qualms leaving the Herd to die on a foolish dragon-killing expedition was... quite something.

The funny thing about Napoleon is that in real life he was 5'5" or 5'6", meaning he was quite tall for his time period. However, having been born on Corsica, and just weeks after it was annexed by France, he was treated as an outsider and foreigner by his fellow soldiers, in no small part due to his thick Corsica accent. So yes, Napoleon could be said as having a "Little Man" complex, just not in a literal sense.

I would've taken the opportunity to turn the blade as deep and as hard as I possibly could, queue all the violins in the London Orchestra's worth, on the hope that this would make Vox Machina act a little bit less like Murder Hobos in the future. I'd milk it for at least half an hour... child crying on the ashes of his parents, whole village in mourning, grandmother suffering an incurable stroke after getting the news... VM could really use a bit of shaming
Jyygylag It didn’t have be a 30 minute production, but I probably would have had him say “They were on the other side of the square. I don’t know what happened but I saw an explosion. Are they.. are they still alive?”. I think the realization they had killed his parents and then resurrected a now orphaned child is enough of a lesson. They could give him some gold and leave him with an official - it doesn’t have to be a huge production. They do walk the line a bit but this the first time one of them blatantly shrugged off the value of an innocent bystander.

@@nidohogg4783 Thanks lol :) I made so many comments on Critical Role when I was binging and now I've gotten discussion replies on a few of them recently and people are like debating things and I'm like "I have no idea what this was even about anymore" haha. Also I didn't realize my comment was doing so well on likes! Anyways maybe one of these days I'll get back to watching CritRole; I never did finish the first campaign. I think I left them somewhere in the Feywild, woops.

@@ladyalfhildrforestofvioletmist As someone who's catching up on campaign 1 before the animated series comes out and who's seen campaign 2 I think it's worth it to finish the binge! Also if you want to start fresh campaign 3 is starting October 21st this year and the animated series is February 4th next year.
Staying at home is sure easy when u have about 200+ of episodes to watch through.

i'm OBSESSED with keyleth and percy lovingly teasing the twins. i hardcore ship keyleth w vax AND vex w percy, so i'm imagining the two just standing back, huddling together and giggling to themselves as they watch their significant others bicker their way through obstacles. really hoping percy and vex end up becoming canon because my GOD would percy and keyleth's dynamic be incredible.
When Liam breaks character I love it every time because he turns from rouge edgelord to giggling mess/smiles and it shows the rping skills.
Truly, sometimes the brooding rogue gets a little tiresome, but then the happy-go-lucky greedy Ranger that wants to be like her big brother (the roguey parts, not the broody parts) alleviates the depression by either doing something rogue-ish better than him, or way, way worse than him!
Seriously, when he calls apart.. OH MY GOD TOO BAD VICTOR DIDNT SURVIVE THE VECNA ATTACK HE HE WENT OUT A HERO THOUGH!!! Oh my God if they ever get out of this stuff Vax should MAKE HIM THE CHAMPION 😜😜😜😜😜😂

The fun part of a DM is if you remember something mid-way through something. You can make some funny moments of stupidity.
Ex: I was fumbling over what distance from town my players were gonna go. I said 5 miles as a guard giving them the job. Then we realized they should be more like 20 miles out of town. So it turned into a dumb guard that doesn't know distance

Sassy TheSpear No they aren't. They aren't related but they do share a birthday. So during character creation they decided to make themselves twins.
I sometimes either forget that twins are supposed to look alike, or that Liam and Laura don't actually look that much alike.
Not all twins look alike. There are two types of twins, identical (look alike) and fraternal (don't look alike but share the same DNA). Laura and Liam are not actually related though.
Fraternal/Sororal twins don't actually "share DNA" they are just normal siblings who share a womb.

The way I see it grog and pike are basically brother and sister
the way i see it grog and pike are like bastion and ganymede from Overwatch
from a story standpoint they kinda are. Matt mentioned during the Briarwood Arc, when Pikes "Celestial Form" was introduced, that during childhood Grog carried Pike on his shoulders and knew how much she weighted. And many a times has there been "childhood friend" etc etc. so, there about as close as brother and sister one can get without being blood related (imo) and if it ever came down to it, imo, if they were forced to choose between VM or the other, im 99.8% certain they'd choose the other
but grog and scanlan and Grog are the funniest

Two things I took away from the infamous Scanlan/Pike scene.
-While at this point Sam is a proved RPer, I barely had any notice how good Ashley was...until now. With her gone for work so much, she barely got the time to do anything or grow Pike. This however....holy shitballs on a bagel, she just owned this scene AND destroyed everyone else not named Matt. Talisen almost died there! The woman nearly murdered him! He looked like he was having a heart attack, he was laughing so hard.
-Matt Godsdamned Mercer. How in the Nine Hells he was able to keep control of himself and manage the group so they don't talk or laugh too loud over that scene I will never know. I could see him getting redder by the second trying not to burst out laughing, but he kept his cool and warned the others to keep it down so we could hear every awkward sentence. It was more impressive than the 3,817 voices he has invented for characters.

They didn't know that was a glyph of warding, they can't make those, they don't have a wizard.

That whole exchange was absolutely brilliant. I watched three times each time watching a different group react. The other cast members reactions are often better than the main players !!

Hello! I somehow (due to Smosh) found Critical Role sometime this spring right as quarantine started, and I haven't been able to stop watching. I finally caught up to the latest episode of campaign two, so now I'm making my way through this one! Happy watching!

It's great to see more roleplaying from Ashley, especially since she's often absent from the show. Really wish Pike could stay somewhat permanently.

Firstly, I love all the passive aggressive banter between Vax and Vex in this episode.
Secondly, I feel a huge opportunity was missed while Percy was under the effects of the Slow spell. Someone really should've asked him to recite his full name at that time.
There was a huge missed opportunity for Ashley, as well. After Scanlon's out of nowhere proposal, she didn't say, "I walk away."

I loved that Sam was sitting there saying, “Don’t we have a way to detect magical items?”, looking at Marisha, clearly remembering the Hunk of Quall, and absolutely refusing to say anything more. He was definitely enjoying watching the struggle!

I love how outraged the party got when the other tribe announces they're abandoning the fight that Vox Machina themselves agreed they would also abandon, to the point where Vox Machina just kind of gives up on their plan to run. It's like Zanror and Ivon set the whole thing up to guilt them into staying. :-)

A really low, underhanded move. Thus Grog's earlier "before you feel bad, these people are murderers, child killers, and rapists -- the worst of the lot." It was honestly kind of amazing how suddenly the party were the cowardly traitors, and this NPC Herd were the ones risking their lives to take down a dragon.

It's been almost a month since I started.
I watch it at work, I watch it every morning while I have breakfast, I watch it before sleep, I watch it when I *should* sleep instead.
And there are still freaking 3 years of catching up.
It's awesome and anguishing to think the amount of episodes that only grows after every week.
Goddamn, it even hurts my soul when I hear them talking about limited stuff.
You're averaging about what I did when I was binging to catch up back in the day (75 eps in 3 weeks), while the show is only 4-5 eps a month at most, so you'll be caught up before you know it.
If it makes you feel any better, those of us who are caught up are facing the drought of the holiday breaks fast approaching (Thanksgiving week in late November, followed by 3 weeks from mid-December to early January), while you'll most likely still have new material to watch.

I started my journey to catch up to campaign 3 a month ago and I feel the exact same way. I’ve watched nothing else for the last month. I listen to it while I get ready, while I’m at work, and while I rest at night. I’m sad it took me this long to find this wonderful show and community.
I love how much Liam picks on the group for when they say real world things in the game as their characters.

Also, it's taken me multiple episodes to realize this, but... When Vex was dead, Vax said "Take me instead". He was saying as in "take my life instead", but the Raven Queen took it differently. She didn't take his life, but instead took _him_ as her champion.
Basically, I knew all of this info already separately, but piecing them together gives a more impactful picture.

I've been in planning meetings that went like that before.
I request that we hold a meeting to decide upon the venue for a meeting whereupon we will decide whether the choice of meeting is indeed one which the majority agrees upon. At which time, depending on the outcome and the venue decided, we will either set a time to discuss results, or we will have lunch before doing setting the previously mentioned time to discuss results.
I love watching Matt's reaction during the Pike and Scanlan scene. I'm just so impressed by their improv and ability as actors. That they can make even the DM, who created the world, nearly cry with laughter is so incredible. Like, Matt has chuckled and laughed before at some good in-character moments (a lot of Scanlan stuff), but this was really special. Sam and Ashley are such a good comedy duo.

My favorite scene this episode. So upset he wasn't the first to think of it.
I wish they would listen to Scanlan. They have a 40 strong force, three vestiges, and the advantage of surprise. The dragons might be incredible but they aren't gods. Unless they Scry for the black dragon to discover his fate, or they fly over to Westrun and find his corpse, they aren't instantly going to start massacring civilians. Vax seems to forget that if they beat the black dragon, they can rest up for a few days and through Keyleth pretty much go where they need to go that has trees.
A 40 strong force that took on the dragon when it was twice it's current size and still failed to kill it. Also, even with the 2 vestiges they had, Vox Machina almost lost to that 40 strong force (that also had it's strongest member effectively useless for most of the battle), and more than likely would have lost if the fight hadn't ended after Kevdak died. The dragons have crystals they use to communicate, so they would know something is up sooner rather than later.

They may have won in the end, but it came down to a hell of a lot of luck.
The biggest issue is fighting the dragon. If it flies, nothing good can really hit it, beyond a few magically attacks. While it rains down destruction. And a dragon that has been attacked is going to get even. If not own them, then the town itself, Just like it did to Iman after the Blue Dragon was killed.
I'm surprised nobody mention fielding siege engines against them. Ballistas would be like THE weapon of choice vs a dragon.
Especially with Percy being such a techy character. With his brilliance and a city to help, not to mention dozens of strong badasses under as his aide, he could probably make like a dozen of those in 24 hours.
An old comment but the problem with ballistas is that they'd be rather fragile to a dragon. If they don't down the dragon, all it'd have to do is swoop, blast them or even just whip them with its tail, there goes a dozen ballistas worth of hard work.
The same can be said about humanoids. A single stomp or fire breath, and they're gone :P
Though since this is DND, the whole problem would be solved by spacing out the siege weapons which you can do because of their crazy range, ensuring you only lose 1 at a time, and then applying some salve/oil/grease to make each weapon survive at least a single breath.

Okay, that Scanlan and Pike interaction was amazing, and not even for the belly full of laughs it gave me. It really felt like it was PIKE and SCANLAN talking, not Sam snd Ashley. And it makes it better that Scanlan was being 100% real and honest during that conversation, from babbling incoherently, to flustered embarrassment, to confused hair pulling, that was probably the best little segment in the entire episode. But man, poor Scanlan. Pike really put the poir Gnome on a rollercoaster there. X,D

Not only that but 1 scene earlier Matt introduces the little old gnome having 2 full barrels of pure potato moonshine they could use as a bomb to soften it up, they could carve the earth to make a trench to surprise the dragon and were even given a golem to soak damage and they still plan on leaving.
They were given SO much to make a killer plan.
I know, it's impossibly frustrating. They're talking about abandoning the city to a DRAGON and not taking advantage of the _best. possible. conditions._ to fight a dragon in.
A dragon they have to fight anyway.
Why Liam in particular was so adamant they don't deal with the threat right away when they had the high ground is too bizarre for me to comprehend.

How is Percy underrated when he’s one of the most popular characters in C1? On reddit posts about fave characters, it’s usually a toss-up between him, Grog, and Scanlan. On AO3, he’s the most popular C1 character (number of stories he’s tagged in). And he’s one-half of what is frequently cited as the best CR couple (Perc’ahlia).
That was the single best most horribly handled trainwreck of a conversation between Pike and Scanlan i have ever heard in my entire life, i watched it like 300 times, not kidding, holy shit

I don't hate Laura, but I absolutely loathe players who do what she did. It took awhile, but I learned I don't have to put up with it in games I play. If I have to quit a game because of it I will. I've done so.

I really appreciate the fact that they had to manually figure out how to control the golem. It's kinda refreshing to see that when most times attuning to an object will just tell you most of how it works, which is far from immersive
Roleplay wise this was probably the best episode so far. Even with no combat, D&D can still be a lot of fun, as this episode demonstrated.
Scanlan is honestly the most insightful and clever character remaining in the cast, and the player is probably the best of making full use of his character as well. He jokes a lot, but he really does deserve to be the leader.
And that confession on killing the civilians- he's the first person to actually self reflect on his own actions
