    Your reviews of Chagos and the Maldives were very informative and will probably be the go to videos about these places on CZcams for years to come. Now you have done still another on the Seychelles. Following you guys has been very informative! I am looking forward to the rest of your videos before you arrive back in the Caribbean. Best wishes.

      We definitely noticed a lack of info on CZcams about sailing in the Indian Ocean compared to the Caribbean and South Pacific. Glad we can be a resource for this part of the world!

    i’m not a sailor and I don’t own a boat so I could be wrong about this you guys might know better but I don’t think gross tonnage when it comes to a boat is actually the weight of the boat or the displacement it’s actually a calculation of the volume of interior space so that your gross tonnage might be correct

    Seychelles was hit by a super strong El Nino twice in 3 years apparently...it wiped out most coral. When I was there during Xmas, it was already a bit better than the year before...I could see the first few new coral pop up. Still a white desert though, sadly.

      @OutChasingStars  Před 4 lety

      It certainly does take a very long time for new coral to grow, but hopefully it continues! We have been told that some of the coral deeper down is still good, but we didn't get too many dives in to properly investigate. :)

    I was fortunate enough to dive many places in the Caribbean, Red Sea, and the GBR before pollution, climate change, and over-fishing destroyed many bucket list destinations. I guess I will wait even longer to see if the Maldives and Seychelles recover. Thanks for all this great info! Looking forward to seeing the highlights of your passage to Madagascar.

      It has been quite devastating to go to exact coordinates given to us by other cruisers for some of their favorite snorkel spots and only find dead coral. But we consider ourselves fortunate that we've been to as many good places as we have. Who knows what the ocean will look like a decade or two from now??

    Well Done, now subscribed. Such Empowering helpful thoughts. Now you're making it sound like we have to go Sailing ! You have the best approach: you talk about the places you visit , and not focused on yourself being in the 'centre' of attention. Thanks for that perspective. Look forward to seeing your other videos. Also, a great video on your 'Catarmaran.' equipment and suggestions. Cheers, DK.

      Glad you enjoy these videos! We try to have a mix of showing our adventures and then the more factual videos like these, especially for some of the more 'exotic' places we've been like the Indian Ocean.

      That's a great question! I've edited the description to add that information, but we arrived in mid-June and departed late September.

      Your description says you left in 2020!!! Might want to fix that. 😱

    Given the current situation, these dodgy formalities, help (the country). Not otherwise though. Cheers guys

      Formalities are always tricky to navigate, in every country we go to! But some definitely seem to have more to deal with than others...

    Ever since you left the South Pacific, my interest level has waned. I would never go to the Seychelles because of all the bureaucracy, just like I would never go to the Galapagos islands for the same reason. I plan to focus on the South Pacific......it is so vast and it really can't be beat...

    • @OutChasingStars
      @OutChasingStars  Před 4 lety +1

      Everyone has places they're most interested in and we certainly don't fault them for that. The South Pacific usually ends up at the top of cruiser's favorites lists for a reason!
      But... if you want to circumnavigate, the Indian Ocean must be crossed and hopefully these videos will help out those who want to follow our wake all the way around the world. 😀

    Very informative, detailed and objective. I am always amazed at these little "third world" governments and their intrinsic little rules and regulations. I guess the idea of "being free as the wind" out there has long ago died.

    • @shinybaldy
      @shinybaldy Před 4 lety +1

      Most of the strict rules in the Galapagos, S Pacific, Coco Keeling, Christmas Island and Seychelles are setup after irresponsible visitors abuse the good nature and leave a disaster.
      You’ll be surprised to find the number of fishing fleet wrecks or tankers/bulk carriers left behind after running aground in some pacific islands.
      Or some American postmortem CZcams celeb (whose family and friends made a story about him sailing the S Pacific) - got kicked out of Galapagos for poaching iguanas.
      It only takes one bad exp for the local governments to get draconian.
      Unfortunately is only going to get worse in post-covid19 world - many cruisers departed Panama AFTER the bans have been put in place heading towards French Polynesia and betting the authorities have to let them on the hard.
      While in theory everyone on a sailing vessel who has had covid would have cleared it by the time they arrive - it only takes one and the S Pacific population can be harmed like early European contact all over again.

      One of the bigger challenges of cruising is figuring out and trying to abide by the rules and regulations of each country. And to be fair, EVERY country has them, not just these small island nations.
      The US requires foreign flagged boats to get a cruising permit and they're supposed to clear in and out with each customs jurisdiction. Cruising in the Schengen Area of the EU is quite complicated for non-EU residents and you typically are allowed only 90 days out of a 180 day period, necessitating moves to countries in the Med outside of Schengen.
      So yes, while in general cruising is still quite a free lifestyle, anyone calling it "as free as the wind" has a romantic, not-so-accurate view. :)
