    Thank you very much for sharing your how-to on Rickenbackers. I have some buzz problems myself due to a neck bow (after years of excellent performance) and I was kind of hesitant to touch the truss rods, since I've read a lot, but on writing looks kind of hard to do, while watching the actual process made me feel more confident. Other consideration was not wanting to spoil my bass. Cheers.

    It’s great to hear some positivity about the adjustment and set up of these basses as they tend to get slammed all over the internet. I am interested in buying one and more videos i watch about them it puts me off, even though they sound fantastic. I think your series of videos on the adjustments is refreshing to say the least. Thanks for posting them, i will be referring to them if i go ahead a buy it!

      sheedo1, thank you so much for your kind and positive comment, I really appreciate it. This is precisely why I made these videos, to help others and to show that it's not all bad like so many other people make it out to be. I'm really glad you found the positive message in what I was trying to do. Please keep me posted and let me know if you do buy a Rickenbacker bass!

      @@sheedo1 , For some reason that seems to happen with Rickenbacker basses every few years. One of the music stores over here had a matt black 4003 and it was beautiful! I'm old so I could be wrong but I think the 2020 models come with the update Rickenbacker bridge and tailpiece but don't quote me on that.

    So Nick, I did my adjustment today and I had one question. Is it normal to feel resistance under the string with the .010 feeler gauge. I set the neck pretty straight by eye, but when I put the gauge under the string at ht e7th, 8th and 9th fret it touches quite a bit. More on the bass side than the treble side. I'm basically at a loss because this truss system doesn't work like my Ibanez or Fenders. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    • @bass-hiroshimanick2534
      @bass-hiroshimanick2534  Před rokem

      Actually, that's not a bad thing because this gives you room to loosen the truss rod a bit. If the feeler gauge is tight under the string it means the truss rod is too tight and you have a bit of a back bow (upward bow in the middle of the neck). You can adjust this by loosening the truss rod by turning the truss rod nut to the left ever so slightly. I'd say start with an 1/8 of a turn to the left and measure with the feeler gauge at the 7th fret again. You might have to repeat this a couple of times until you get the proper measurement. You mentioned that the bass side seems to more of a problem than the treble, if that's the case and the treble side seems ok, only adjust the truss rod nut on the bass side. If you get the bass side adjusted correctly and the bass plays well without any buzzing or choking out then you won't need to adjust the treble side. Ideally, it would be nice to have the same measurement on both sides but it's always a bit of a balancing act. Please keep me posted I'd like to know how it works out for you.

    If it comes to trussrod adjustments, I'm quite a bastard. I push in the hex-key, turn to whatever direction is required, tap the neck to get it settled and take measurements at the 8th fret. But that's single trussrods...

    • @bass-hiroshimanick2534
      @bass-hiroshimanick2534  Před 3 lety

      I agree with your method, it's just so much easier to crank the truss rod and get it over with.

    • @ThunderBassistJay
      @ThunderBassistJay Před 3 lety

      @@bass-hiroshimanick2534 If a trussrod nut and thread can handle the combined tension of the strings, I think it should also be capable of handling the extra force when tightened with the strings under tension. Sometimes the strings have to be put aside to reach the adjustment nut.
      On the other hand, I'd never advise anyone to copy my way of working, as I don't want to be kept responsible for any damage. 😁

      @bass-hiroshimanick2534  Před 3 lety

      staypress, thanks again. Generally speaking if you're getting fret buzz that you didn't have before you may need to adjust the truss rod. There could be other issues but the first step would be to check the curve in the neck; forward bow or back bow. Keep me posted on your Rickenbacker and the neck adjustment.
