    Rickenbacker and the New York Rangers in the same video. Can't get any better.

      Lukas Marti, thanks for watching. A lot of great players have played for the Rangers but Nicky Fotiu will always be my favorite Ranger.

    I have fret buzz at the 1st and 2cd frets mostly on the D and G strings and slight buzz on the E and A strings.... Bridge or neck adjustment... I like low action....

    • @bass-hiroshimanick2534
      @bass-hiroshimanick2534  Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks for watching. It’s possible the truss rod is too tight and the neck might be too straight or even in a back bow. Measure the neck relief and if it is too straight loosen off the truss rod nut just a slight bit. (Turn to the left to loosen.) If it’s a Rickenbacker you’ll have to loosen off both truss rods. If the neck relief is ok then the action might be too low or you might have a high fret. I hope this helps and keep me posted.

      @paulluongo2756 I have the same thing. It looks like I need a new nut. The one which on it now has been filed in too deep.

    So if I’m wanting lower strings I’d turn left with the bass laying down ?

    • @bass-hiroshimanick2534
      @bass-hiroshimanick2534  Před 10 měsíci

      No. If you turn the truss rod nut to the left (loosen) you'll add relief and in effect make the string action higher. Also, you shouldn't adjust the action with the truss rod. If the truss rod is adjusted properly and the action is still too high then you need to adjust the string action at the bridge by lowering the bridge/saddles. If the bridge/saddles are bottomed out and you can't get the action any lower then you'll need to shim the neck if it's a bolt on neck. If it's a neck through then that's a whole different story. I hope that helps.

    I'm so confused... can you adjust the truss rod while leaving the strings at full tension or not? ;)

    • @bass-hiroshimanick2534
      @bass-hiroshimanick2534  Před 4 měsíci

      I understand your confusion because there is no definitive answer, some will say yes and others will say no. I'll just tell you how I do it and hope that it makes it a bit clearer for you.
      I always loosen off the strings when I adjust a truss rod on any bass ESPECIALLY when tightening a truss rod. I would rather take the few seconds to loosen off the strings than possibly do damage to the truss rod under string tension. It may never happen in my lifetime but I'm not willing to take that chance.
      People may disagree with me and I respect that and I try to be open-minded to other ideas. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    I'm thinking of taking my 4003 to a local guitar luthier in a few days...the action is a touch too high...a thin plectrum of 0.50mm can be slipped under each of the 4 strings at the 7th fret when the 1st fret is fretted with a capo and the last fret is held down.
    Having watched your excellent videos about this very 'problem'...if he only attempts to turn the truss rods should I shout STOP...and tell him how you do it...ie; actually bending the neck down and then tightening the rods.
    Should I walk out if he doesn't do it your way ...the correct way.
    Thanks for your great videos and your amusing New York no holds barred 'frankness'.
    Yes, Rickenbacker basses are fantastic, a great pain in the arse but were 'designed' (?) by idiots.
    You are number one of a only small number of people who truly understands them. Rickenbacker obviously don't.

      Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comments, I really do appreciate it.
      My Rickenbacker in this video is an older 1981, 4001 so it needs to be adjusted by pulling down the neck and then tightening the truss rod nuts,
      The 4003 is different it can be adjusted by just tightening or loosening the truss rod nuts depending on the year of the bass. Just to be on the safe side you may want to ask the tech/luthier how he's going to adjust the 4003 and ask him to show you how it's done. What year is your 4003?

    Is living full tension on the strings apply to every base?

    • @bass-hiroshimanick2534
      @bass-hiroshimanick2534  Před 3 lety

      Adam S. Thanks for watching. Generally speaking you should never tighten a truss rod nut under full string tension. People will disagree and I respect that but I wouldn’t do it. You can loosen the truss rod nut under string tension but I wouldn’t tighten it. Hope that helps.

    Any trussrod should be adjustable with the tension on. Otherwise the materials used would hardly survive tuning, playing and changing weather conditions. Most trussrod threads easily withstand forces of 5 kN (500 kg).

      @bass-hiroshimanick2534  Před 3 lety

      Jay, how are ya? Thanks for watching. I'm sure it's fine to adjust at full tension but in my case I have to loosen the strings so I can get access to the two truss rod nuts with that particular wrench I use.

      @@bass-hiroshimanick2534 I'm fine, thank you. Had my second Covid vaccination a while ago. I hope you're well too.
      I know it's easier to get to the nuts with the strings out of the way. But like you said, technically there's no need to release string tension.

      Jay, glad you're well and great to hear you're done with the vaccination. I have my second shot on the 23rd. My father has a 1/4 inch socket wrench in his house so if I ever make it back home I'm gonna steal his wrench and I won't have to loosen the strings anymore.
