    UPDATE: My follow-up video: czcams.com/video/EC4R9CbPXns/video.html
In Ellen's video "Death By Veganism" she briefly mentions taking b12 (shows an image of a b12 supplement at about 7:04 with the text "this is the b12 we take"). So that's good! Unfortunately, if you search "ellen fisher supplements" or "ellen fisher b12", the first things that comes up are the "Do Vegans Need to Supplement" video where she says she only supplements for b12 while pregnant; the FAQ on her website, where she says she and her family only supplement with barley grass powder; and the "Starting my baby on solid foods" blog post, where she says in a comment that Elvis does not receive a b12 supplement.
These are older sources, but they are the first things you find, AND some of them she has referenced in much more recent content (like linking to the blog post on a video from last year). I hope she will consider removing this stuff from her channel and website.
Unfortunately, b12 is not the only issue with her channel. The diet and anti-vax approach is absolutely dangerous. As others have pointed out, she's also anti-sunscreen. From her FAQ page: "The sun is not here to harm us and is not this evil force in the world that we have to do everything we can to stay “protected” from it, in contrast to what the media and sunscreen brands would like us believe...Getting burned, though, is unhealthy and definitely should be avoided. We do not wear any sunscreen or put anything on our skin when we go in the sun. We stay at the beach for a healthy amount of time, generally 1.5-2.5 hours, and head back home before burning ever becomes a possibility." There is no such thing as a healthy tan. Again, this is unacceptable.
I get that people are upset because they like Ellen. She's nice, I get it! But her advice is terrible and if you raise your children this way, you will be putting them in danger. Nutrient deficiencies, skin cancer, and THE FUCKING MEASLES are no joke.

If kids aren't vaxxed ,they probably aren't accepted into any reputable physicians office. To say that her kids are healthy most likely comes from superficial observations.
Which may be why so many CZcams vegans homeschool.. because schools typically don't take unvaxxed children. Nor do most colleges. The college I attended requires shot records and whatever ones you miss you have to get. I had to get 6 because of this. So if kids aren't vaccinated they may have to get them to attend college.
Her intentions are good. Anti vaxxers are almost always middle class or higher class citizens. It's like they don't have enough problems so they have to find something to focus their energy on.
I don't believe anyone should take advice from someone who isn't a pediatrician, who went to school to know this stuff and who knows the bigger picture.
Idk if Ellen Fisher does the whole Amber necklaces and all but it's like the CZcams vegan moms all have a checklist they have to do to get their hippy aesthetic , which requires Amber teething necklace, minimalism, law of attraction, cosleeping and spirulina. Lol.
Don't even get me started on those freaking necklaces. Seriously they are a strangulation hazard you risk for the off chance they may help teething pain. For the superficial pleasure of looking at a cute baby with a cute hippy necklace. I mean come on people .
Edit: also for them to be able to attend college they're going to have to get vaccinated anyways . . And get them all at once then.

Judging from the comments, it's exactly like you said at the end of this video: people like Ellen so much that they are either unwilling or unable to think reasonably about what exactly it is that she promotes. And yes I agree that the title of this video is harsh and not in line with Ellen's intentions, BUT i also happen to think it is 100% true. Especially when it comes to not vaccinating. Point blank PERIOD: not vaccinating DIRECTLY endangers not only her kids but also the kids around her children. And that is NOT an exaggeration or clickbait: it's a science-based fact, and to say that Swayze's title is clickbait is ironically not only incredibly unfair given its absolute validity, but also shows people's own ignorance to how vaccines work and also how their choices directly affect those around them. It's truly shocking to see how unwilling people are to believe that their personal choices could affect people around them, and in a community of "vegans" no less. shouldn't you be the first to realize that your choices don't just affect you?!

It's a very simple black and white way of thinking. Cooking in fact does destroy some of the nutrients, so these people assume cooking=bad. But it's an emotional matter, so argueing with facts won't likely help.

I couldn’t stay quiet for this one I’m sorry. Ellen feeds her kids a Whole plant food diet. She and her husband take the time to make most things they eat from scratch. And that takes a lot of time and effort. I know because that’s how I cook. She also feeds them oatmeal during the day, not only smoothies and salads. Their dinners most of time have beans and lots of veggies. And fats from avocado and coconuts and coconut milk. And they do tahini and other nut butters. I don’t think they’re fat deprived. I will not touch on the no vaccine issue. I’m talking strictly about nutrition here. I eat mostly like her and I have many a times logged all my food on chronometer, and every single time I have surpassed my daily protein and fat intake. And when you talk about her exploiting her kids, it couldn’t be furthest from the truth. You see Mothers over posting pictures of their kids on a daily basis and nobody says anything. I don’t watch her videos because of her kids. If they no longer appeared on the videos I would still watch and I’m sure most of her subscribers would too. I’m sure if one day, the kids decide they do not want to be on their videos anymore, she would honor that. And I don’t see why they’d be embarrassed later by anything she posts. Everything is done very tastefully.

Unnatural vegan can only by what she sees in the videos. Based on what's in the videos it looks like the kids are lacking certain things. Sticking things in cronometer is irrelevant since you can set custom targets. Do you actually know how much protein you need? The Vegan RD Jack Norris recommends vegans get 1 to 1.1 grams per Kg of healthy body weight. It's not a bad idea to get a little more protein that that. Since this is based on the RDA which is a general recommendation. The vegan RD Ginny Messina recommends at least 3 servings of legumes per day. It's not hard to get enough protein on a vegan diet. But it's also not hard to not get enough. Just based on what's shown in this video it looks like Ellen isn't getting enough protein. I would love to see her cronometer her diet and that of her kids. Just to see what they are actually geting.

I think,as a mother yourself, this video is completely irresponsible and in bad taste. Especially the title. No matter how much you disagree with the way she eats or if she makes videos with her kids in them, the fact that you would title this video in the way you did is pretty despicable. Considering in this day and age how easy it is to have a CPS case on your back and what can happen if that should happen. If you truly had concerns about their well being you could've emailed her privately (mother to mother, vegan to vegan, youtube to youtuber) or gone about this video in a different way. "teaching people how to endanger their kids" by showing what THEY choose to eat in one day or to show a day in their life. Wow. How many parents in America feed their kids Mc Donald's, soda, and a terrible SAD diet every day. They are literally giving their children foods that are already clogging their tiny arteries. THAT is child endangerment and that is everywhere. You need to be careful with what you put on the internet. Don't get cocky because you have more than 100k subs now. You are talking about a family unit and you are involving the entire internet and by making a title like that you can sway a lot of people and the way they view her and her family. I've been a subscriber to your channel for years....and this video really disappointed me. Mother to mother, shame on you.

I'm sure that youtube gives us 24/7 insight into Ellen's life... honestly, get a grip! Ellen often shares a day in the life and shows us what she eats, but there is a lot more that goes on behind closed doors. Secondly, what Ellen feeds her children is none of your concern. Her lifestyle is her own personal decision. Rather than attacking a mother who is doing an absolutely WONDERFUL job of raising her children, why does nobody bat an eye to the women ACTUALLY neglecting and endangering their children. Some of these comments are absolutely appalling, and half of the people sharing their negative and unhelpful criticism should be ashamed of themselves. I understand people who want to keep their kids completely separate but I think it's unfair to suggest others are doing something harmful including their children as part of their daily activities in their own life documentary. In most of her videos you can see they're either running around in the back when she's filming the food (as she's selling her ebooks based on her food) or she's interrupted by them frequently when she's just talking to the camera by herself about products or sponsors (which is where she will be making the bulk of her income from), so it's not the whole 'lets point the camera at the kids and wait for them to do something interesting so we can post it for money' thing that its being made out to be.

Here is a cronometer snapshot of what she says she ate in her recent "what I ate in a day" video. I used an 1800 Calorie Goalpost (which is to her benefit and brings down the number of nutrients for someone like Ellen who is active and breastfeeding) And also used generous portion sizes to amp up the chances her diet would reach the minimum RDAs. Using her most recent video shes DOES (barely) meet iron RDA, but as you can see she is missing out on a LOT of other stuff on this day. @katjahenriksen190 Před 5 lety +179

I don't agree with everything Ellen does but I think most of this criticism is highly unfair.
    1) As a follower who has watched all of her videoes: she mentions in several videoes that she eats more than 2000 calories every day (because either she has been pregnant and or/breastfeeding and leads an active lifestyle), and it is definitely possible to get ALL of your required daily nutrients every day on a high carb low fat lifestyle IF you include the right foods (seeds, nuts, seaweed etc) and remember to eat ENOUGH.
    2) Ellen usually also puts flax, chia and/or hemp seeds in her smoothies, sometimes also seeds on her salad, sometimes they have cashew sour cream so there are also nuts present. The old videos about B12 should be removed, for sure, but as others have said, Ellen and her family do take B12 now and when she was pregnant I remember she also supplemented with iodine.
    3) The kids also get many of these nutrients in their smoothies and besides avocado they also eat coconut meat and they get coconut milk in a lot of their cooked dishes. So no, their fat intake does not only come from avocado and I do not doubt that they are getting enough. Also remember that Ellen has breastfed her children long term which means they have also gotten important nutrients and fats from her milk.
    4) You only need 0,8 grams of protein per kilo of your body weight, so if you weigh 50 kilos you only need 40 grams a day. It is totally possible to get even more than that on this diet IF you eat enough calories. Also, excessive protein intake (which is right now being marketed as healthy - protein powders, protein chocolate bars, etc., there is added protein in so many foods these days) is bad for your kidneys in the long run.
    5) How many people do actually meet their nutritional requirements on every single nutrient EVERY single day of their lives? Not a lot I think. These are GUIDELINES and these also vary (sometimes greatly) from country to country - they are not necessarily the right amount for everyone. Someone might need more or less than others for different reasons.
    6) Also I would not call Ellen a pure raw foodist, she acknowledges the nutritional value of cooked foods as well. In her videos they always have cooked meals for dinner and beans and legumes are also included in some of these meals. She also says in several of her videos that eating a healthy vegan diet can be done in many different ways and that you do not have to live like her to be healthy, because there are plenty of other whole plant foods you can eat besides papayas and mangos.
    7) I think that her diet provides far more nutrients and healthy foods than the diet that a lot of other people are eating, for example the standard American diet or just a vegan diet filled with processed foods. Unprocessed foods will always be better than processed.

    8) I don’t agree with her views on vaccination or following pseudo science such as medical medium. But that does not mean that the lifestyle she promotes is “endangering” her children, on the contrary I think that her children are much healthier than a lot of other kids and adults. She is a great inspiration when it comes to raising a healthy family and I respect the work that she does to inspire people to live a healthier life.
    9) Also I don’t see how showing your kids on social media is endangering or disrespecting them. These are the times we live in, a lot of kids are featured on social media, kids even go on and feature themselves on social media when they get older. I don’t see why this should be endangering them or anything like that. She does not film them when they are upset or does not want to be filmed, she respects them. I think the title of this video is clickbaity and very inappropriate.

agree 100%! She says she isn't attacking Ellen but her video really does come off as an attack especially because if you are a follower of Ellen you know most of the points Swayze made are not true and extremely unfair. The title of the video is extremely disrespectful and the point about "endangering" or "disrespecting" her kids is a real low. It’s not new - women’s magazines have given bad advice for decades - but it’s pretty darn persuasive. Ellen was the main reason why I went vegan, her loving and caring personality opened me up to the lifestyle and gave me the push I needed to commit. However, I completely agree with your concerns and have been suspicious in the years I've watched her, about vaccines mainly. I know she's most likely doing it out of love for her children (I have an anti-vaxx relative who loves her children but is so fucking stupid when it comes to vaccines, sunscreen, etc.) but it's not going to help them in the long run.
She seems to have opened up more to incorporating cooked foods over the years, so maybe she'll be open to your advice? I also agree on the whole child exploitation thing. I don't think it's necessarily wrong to post pictures of your children online like the majority of parents do, but when there's a money incentive it can change even the most loving parents, forcing their children into taking videos that they might not want to.

Of course, that point is not just towards Ellen but many family vloggers and CZcamsrs. The only thing I wish you would/could have added on was how she doesn't use sunscreen on her or her kids. I don't really get the whole vegan thing, but what I do see very clearly is Ellen's love for her family and for humanity. She is humble and compassionate and would never misrepresent someone she disagrees with on her channel as you have her. You could've went about this so differently..... if you have genuine concern for people's health you should act..., but to do it the way you did is unnecessary and unkind. Use your platform to help others, not hurt them. In trying to help some, you hurt another and that could've been avoided.

I have never disliked videos before or left a somewhat negative comment on a video because I did not want to put that out into the world. But your videos are not only rude and disrespectful they are just plain wrong and false. You talk about science and evidence and proof but never do your own research and make videos solely for likes. It is sad what you are doing to the vegan community. Ellen's comment shows her true personality and anyone who watches her videos can see she takes pride in being the best mother she can be so to say she is endangering children is just disgusting. Ive watched every single one of her videos and aspire to be the mother she is one day. Anyone can see her children get plenty of fat, protein and nutrients. I hope you stop making such negative videos about such wonderful life changing people (like Anthony Williams). Maybe one day you'll see that you can have different opinions from even other vegans without being rude and disrespectful.

    Legit question.
I agree with much of the video but my question is aimed at the protein component. I know that you prefer more protein in your diet so you feel better, satiated, etc.
But, I put the smoothie in Cronometer for Sandy, 11:45, and that came up at around 10% protein. I believe that when humans need the most protein for growth is when we are on breast milk which is something like 4% to 6% protein. Is it maybe that protein isn't an issue with them? That smoothie was close to 20% fat as well.
I come in at 10% protein almost every day I put into cronometer and I have plenty of it for working out (weights), I am not some skinny vegan twig. My recovery time is no different than before being whole plant food eater, and I have not lost strength over the years.
Even if the kids then ate a salad with romaine - romaine is 17% protein.
Is protein really a concern here? I would think that some micro-nutrients and the B12 that you mention would be much larger of a concern.
    thoughts?

The only foods that supply b12 are animal.products such as milk, meat and eggs or foods fortified with b12 such as certain breads and cereals or plant "milks". It would say on the label..look for 20% or more per serving.

To address your concerns: Ellen says she doesn't film every part of her life, just the happy moments to respect her children, you would know that had you done the extensive research you said you had in this video. You know what's sad? A person who does multiple taste tests of vegan pizza and ben and jerry's and then makes videos bashing other people for their "imperfect diets". Your videos are an endless litany of you judging and criticizing others: every week you pick someone more or less popular on youtube and make a video about him/her just to get more views.

Hey there. Quit interesting info about b12. It seems as if there is always something that I don't know about b12 (as well as my doctor). I thought I could just take b12 supplements ocasionally and that it wasn't something I had to take forever. You've mentioned fortified foods but often those have sugar in them too or if they don't they are quite expensive (at least where I live). Should those fortified foods or drinks be consumed every day? How do I know if I'm getting enough? I don't want to get neurotic about it.

Yeah well I didn't show B12 deficiency signs early on. This was way before I became vegan and my neurologist decided that I should be tested for B12 because I was having permanent nerve damage all over my body. We discovered that due to intrinsic factor I had almost no B12 in my system so now once a month I give myself an intramuscular injection of 1 ml of B12 but I will never recover I will never have feeling in my legs or feet I will always have horrible pain in my legs and feet and the same for my hands and arms my hands now are covered in Burns that I never feel happen. I also have nerve damage in other places to the point where I cannot stand up straight any longer and my doctor said when I asked will I ever be able to have straight posture again the answer was a quiet no. I am a medicine and science person but before that in my younger years I was a ballet dancer with the Boston Ballet and now I can't stand up straight or feel my legs and feet and this can never repair itself in fact even with the B12 it's still getting worse because once it attacks a nerve line it doesn't stop.

Kids not being able to consent to being in videos is the reason a channel I followed no longer makes videos. It's a couple that decided to start having kids and they recognized that they would be tempted to include their adorable kids in future videos (because of the sheer cute factor, not necessarily with monetization in mind) and so they felt it best to just remove that temptation by leaving CZcams. I miss the channel, but I respect their decision to think of their future children's best interest.
PS. I also never got an outie when I was pregnant. Everyone kept telling me it would happen, and It never did. It's kinda nice to know other people have weirdly deep bellybuttons, too.

It's so unfair to have videos of your kids up for >1 million strangers on the internet. That ex-CZcams couple sound like great parents! Though there's a difference between having a few short videos on CZcams of your kid and having videos of their life regularly uploaded since birth like The Truman Show.
Overall I don't think their diet looks that bad (especially if they're supplementing other vitamins/minerals), but not vaccinating and making your kids internet-famous is very risky parenting! I mean, previous generations haven't grown up on social media in this very intense way, we do not know how it'll affect them psychologically later on in life.
On another note, not getting an outie is shocking! I had a tiny baby bump and got myself a nice freaky outie :p
