TONY HAWK - Short Lived Street Skating
Vložit
- čas přidán 20. 12. 2016
- Not too long ago I sat down with Tony Hawk to do an interview about "The L.A. Boys," a documentary I was in the process of finishing up. After I had asked him a series of questions related to the film I decided to ask one more to satisfy my own curiosity. I wanted to know what happened to the street skating version of Tony that I vividly remembered from 1993 so I asked him exactly that: "What ever happened to your street skating career?" This was his reply. Colin KennedySubscribe to The Berrics - bit.ly/TheBerricsCZcams

man those were some pretty dope tricks for freakin '91 man. big spins, flipping in to grinds and stuff.
Pig_Trough tf you don’t even know the trick names tf
@@danalmatari5899 do you know the names of the tricks?
Stevenson Holt yes
@@danalmatari5899 Get your head out of your ass and stop being some fuckwad elitist. Saying you know tricks without telling those who might genuinely want to know. How sour you must be.
raiden z he’s a disgrace to the name
"no one wants to see me lip slide a 7 stair" that was funny
Lowkey brag though 🙃
Having your own vert ramp: A million dollars.
Skating the streets: Priceless
Real shit
real shit but you have to grow up eventually. Can't afford having kids and a life skating the streets making nothing forever.
Dat vert shit garbage
thts not pushing the limits
Bowls are better then street.
I am actually really impressed, i never knew he could do stuff like this.
That was some respectable street skating for its time. I'd be happy if I could do half that well.
He was pretty good at street skating
endless weekend yeah but his style was rough
endless weekend right on. Guys that talk shit about what all Tony can't do, are assholes and dumbasses.
I respect the shit out of that guy.
vertritis
for an amateur maybe
He wasn't good at street lol, that's why he went back to vert. Lip slide a 7 stair that's cool lol. Hes no Chris Cole, mike moe etc.
seeing tony hawk without protection skating street feels like some twilight zone shi
I love how he gives credits to knowing how to fall FIRST on the vert ramp, and second is doing the tricks. Just goes to show how much effort really goes into skating.
*No one wants me to lip slide a 7 stair* Tony Hawk
*Well... call me no one because I do* Every street skater that respects Tony for everything that he did for skateboarding, in a pool, on a bench, in a ramp, behind a desk, on a video game, building a skatepark, etc and marvels at the fact that he is STILL doing it.
True. He's the ultimate inspiration I think for a lot of us who are also aging to not be discouraged by age, because of his example. That is huge for skateboarding. The more older people with influence and money that are in it, the better for the sport in the future.
For 1992, Tony's part in Feasters was gnarly. He sells himself short. And correction, "Untitled" is from 1994, not 92.
Tony was kicking ass for that era of street skating. Boards were bigger and heavier and harder to maneuver & flip back then for one. Hawk is a legend.
What a humble ass guy, still extremely talented in both concentrations, but what he said made a lot of sense
That 180 over the gonz tho! Sick
Best channel ever.
Thank you dude!
I like how you guys really make an effort to talk to the people, that shits dope 👌👌
Those were pretty solid street skating skills in my book.
Vert skater has been taking a lot of hate lately. Remember. All vert skaters can skate street. But not all street skaters can skate vert.
dioakata I find that the total opposite
No way! I have seen pro street skaters shitting their pants just to drop in a big vert ramp!
just not true at all
that's so me. rather good flatground and manypads, okayish on ledges and preeeetty bad at tranny/vert skating haha :)
aaron kyro
He has such a youthful personality
I didn't know he could do half of this stuff, and he really sells himself short. He wasn't as good as some of the top pros at that time, but he was still damn good from the looks of it. Really kind of middle of the road for the time.
I get what he means though, he was a guy that was near the top of transition, and was pushing the envelope, and he went from that to being middle of the road. I'm sure if he stuck with it he probably could have made his way to the top.
I've always respected the guy but was never that into transition/vert, but after seeing him do this, I respect him even more.
Damn Sonnn. I didnt even know Tony could skate street. I've honestly never seen him do it until now. I thought he was born & lived on the vert ramp.
fuck man i feel him so much on that. i love street skating but i keep destroying my ankles over and over and its getting to the point where i gotta approach skating a different way without killing myself. i can't wait to see this video though i love skate documentaries.
Tony you are the man!!
I haven't seen his street footage before, super interesting
the berrics the real mvp for the push parts and all of these interviews
I wanna see tony lipslide a hand rail! I love how sketchy his style is
Yup, right up until Jeremy Wray. Check out his part in the Color vid (it came out maybe a year after this footage of Tony came out). It was the first 'modern' looking video part where things were crisp and popped and looked good by todays standards.
The Berrics is the best skateboarding channel on CZcams! Constantly bringing interesting content.
Thank you Joshua! We appreciate that!
Joshua Telemaque best skateboarding channel on youtube is LurkNYC
For the time Tony was a decent street skater. Type in Gator street skating, and see how hard it was for vert riders to adapt. And for as far as team owners are concerned, the Birdmans part on Feasters was way better than Rocco's part on Rubbish heap, and Rocco is my hero, but facts are facts
Legend
Very cool! Thats some neat footy!
Very talented at both!
His mindset is what creates industry. Right on!
Seeing this now after like over 20ys, Hawk was a pretty decent street sk8er, he just didn't have much style and seemed awkward as hell, almost like when Michael Jordan played pro MLB.
James Radski that sums it up perfectly.
I suspect its because of how tall he is.
@@Mad_Axe_Man125 yeah and how slow the boards were. If you're tall and skinny like him, momentum is a rare commodity when rolling on 40- mil wheels. Your body weight can't carry you as much, but you still got a high center of gravity.
Better at street than anyone I’ve seen IRL.
He really could’ve did both but the pressure at a young age to perform probably pushed him to what was easier
I love the 360s he was doing in the streets.
Better than expected tbh especially for 91 lo
I'm trying to play FarmVille but this one player keeps cutting my grass....
Tyler delahay TheFarmer27
It was sad seeing vert die and no ramps to skate and seeing a vert legend being forced to skate street. He wasn't bad at it though. Better than I thought.
"Thats just showing I can do" lol Thats all I do nowadays... I find happiness in landing anything no matter how basic the trick is... Thats the greatness of social media nowadays... It would be cool to see you just street skate no matter what tricks you choose to do..
Skating is so bloody interesting! I especially love that Rodney Mullen chap. Genius.
If it wasn't for rodney mullen there would be no flip tricks today!
He invented the kicklfip along with thousands of others.
Most influential skater of all time.
Great vid thanks! :D
Happy birthday, tony hawk
Damn he is still sick a street. Truly a legend
the nicest 180 sw nosegrind to regular ive ever seen down that little bench
Berra your the best
Do whatcha love.
Such a boss
That blunt slide and 180 into the grind caught me off guard
there is a video of tony hawk with tom green (Canadian clown) skating style street. Tony hawk putted many good tricks on that video.
he ripped at street too 8-) !
Saw him about this time skating a demo and the noise and energy coming from him was unbelievable
Dope !
I really love Tony Hawk.... I wish I could be his friend
It's cool to think about 25 year old street Tony Hawk and current day Riley Hawk. If he could just glimpse the future of skating as a whole and also, this is what your son will be doing in this exact field...
good guy
Tony hawk sounds like Steve carrell
Not at all haha.
When I closed my eyes all I heard was "like a bag of sand"
Kind of
that frontside 180 nose grind 180 out was buttery
In spirit, Tony Hawk knew he was destined to be a vert skater, and his son Riley would become the street skater.
always loved vertical skating but stuck to the street
swfront 3?? thats sick!!!
he reminds me of how danny way street skates....super good.
I love how he says no one wants to see him lipslide a 7 stair, like it’s a Ollie for him haha yea just drop that clip once haha
Solid street skater during this era.
for early 90s this is actually pretty good
Tony hawk was actually pretty good at street! He was actually hitting pretty good stuff at the time! But what I liked best was it looked like he was mobbing pretty fast on all of those truck, which I, personally, find really damn impressive for a vert purest and one of the greatest vert skaters of all time, to actually be rolling up to these completely foreign obstacles to him, really fast and barging shit at high speed like he did! The birdman is such a repsectable guy in skating and in business! And he exposed guys like Reynolds and Geoff and muska even more by putting them and their brands they were with and/or had started up, in the game, which VASSSSSTLY exposed skating kids and a gazillion non skating kids to all that info! This was at the very very start of the real, usable internet, so having non skating kids play the game and seeing Geoff rowley and going “this guy looks cool, and what’s this brand ‘flip’ and why is he in tight clothes unlike muska or the rest of the popular skate culture?, and who’s this baker skateboards rock n roll looking guy Andrew Reynolds?” It was soo big for making careers for pro skaters man. It was monumental and brilliant putting that game out there! I think after thug 2 the games got horrid, but the early games were so impactful! If you were born in 90,91, or 92 like I was, those games were huge!! I eventually became a skater in 04 , but by that time, I was gravitated to the rowleys, the Reynolds, and the pissdrunx crew of skating. It was a really cool time those early 2000’s for skating style. It went from goony yellow shoes, and insanely baggy pants, with a yuuuuge hoodie, to, people listening to good rock n roll and wearing tighter clothes and wearing accessories and belts and wristlets and hats and button up shirts! Hahah like in 2007 I was in probably 7th grade, and I wore the same blown out black krew pants that had turned light gray from wearing them so much, and they had holes on the hips, the knees, and the Ass and id wear a white button up shirt or a striped long sleeve shirt, and belt, and bunch of raggy wristlets, and long hair down to my shoulders hahah. With probably some ripped up es accels all in black or some emericas! And that whole look was all thanks to baker 3 baby! And the reason I thought they were cool was from the games. I’d play the early games and then once thug came out I’d just wanna look like the baker team soo bad! So by the time I started skating, I had the look down and that’s kinda what led me to be what I am today. Being artistic and liking rock n roll as opposed to being a bro or being fresh or something hahah. It’s weird thinking back to that shit. My first board was a pig wood American flag board too! I had no idea who they were, but that was the first deck I ever got! That board with ventures and I forgot what kind of wheels though
if he stuck w street he could be even more of a legend today imo 🤷🏾
adam lz gonna be like the automotive tony hawk in 20-30 years
İ would like to see him tackle el toro , maybe some flip tricks
+The Berrics What's up
What's up!
Chicken Butt
it was awesome to see you in the streets
And now vert is in the Olympics crazy to think about
Tony isn’t a street skater but doing a 180 down the gonz is impressive
Ya but he just ollied the Gonz gap. Thats something 2 b proud of and when most very guys quit Tony kept skating through the dead era.
He talks about his street skating as if it wasnt all that yet it was insane as fuck... and his recent video shows it too. Imagine if he kept up the street like he did with the vert? Wouldve been absolutely wicked.
I live in Greece skating only in streets from the late eighties untill 2000
Because there was no possibility to find a vert
now in the place that I grow up there are two skateparks
but I am afraid that if I fall I will break in pieces 😂😢
a Bert used to be a dream for us
Hes so tall he just makes the obstacles look small and unimpressive, still shredding tho really cool to see
Tony looks funny street skating, it doesn't suit him but he was pretty good at it,although it really looks like fun, the universe wanted him on Vert 😄
I don’t know if u guys are aware but most skateboard companies will NOT sponsor you if u send them skatepark footage, and if u are sponsored they want street footage… also the “Knobbed!” Thing is an ancient joke passed down from skater to skater if yk yk.
Cool you got a million dollar vert ramp. ...
In all seriousness! He was a very dope street skater!! I don’t see the problem he had.
He was honestly pretty nice with it in the streets. Selling himself short for sure
Does Bagley film everything?
0:31 really proper
serieus nice video's! ✌
I remember when he would compete in X games Street
I never thought about the difference between street and vert
Me neither.
0:37 what is this trick called?
now his son he destroys the streets
Riley would have had unrealistic expectations if he went into vert and I'm sure he just enjoys street skating more.
Is the very ramp made of the million dollars?
Brian Adkins yup the only one in the wild
You heard the man. It was too painful out there on the streets. My man needs that cushy landing.
Damn he was pretty good
I ordered feasters for $5.00 i mailed in the money and forgot about it and then it came in the mail. That was when skating was pretty dead.
lankey hawk
Noseslide to fakie at Serrano is so random, how did he end up there?
“No one wanted me to lip slide a 7 stair…..I didn’t want to do what an average street skater can do” 😂😂 I’d say that’s above average even now, let alone in the early 90’s. That’s absurd in the early 90’s lol
Street skating is no joke.
Imagine tony had randomly thrown a BS hurricane down el toro for his 50 tricks 😅 Tony Rocks💯 🙌🦅
Tony street skating in 91 is better than ALL of us younger to middle aged men who hit the skate parks today aha
as if my dude could do a standing backflip and hes got to be over 6 foot tall. beats. always had mad respect for tony.
imagine if he was at street league
uncomfortable, but i would definitely watch that.
Damn he skates just like riley hawk
Damn his style was just as good as today's standard!
Brandon McCreight 😂😂
Coconut Safari given I'm talking about hesh guys haha.
