Tired of seeing these reviews already but as ever, yours is the best of the lot. Honest, informative, well presented and more so, you're not blowing smoke out of DJI's arse. Well done!
Thanks, appreciate it!
@@ftm84 Poor comment; what are we, in the school playground??
sooo true!
@@IaninLondon What comment? BTW did you get this drone? I'd like to see something from someone that actually flies drones but isn't an FPV guy.
The ratio of content to time in your videos is awe inspiring
Thanks, appreciate it!
It is. But it is difficult to understand. Have to keeps stopping and re-viewing to get what you are saying. Most vid I have to play at + 1.5 to stop boredom killing me, yours I have to slow down ......
Always the most incisive review available-thanks DC!
Thanks!!!
Subbed just for the straight forward review, without any fluff, or hype. Stayed on subject, and with constant info, it was a pleasure to watch. I wish the kids would have come with a more traditional radio. I'm not a big fan of the motion controller.
Thanks!!!
Awesome breakdown thanks!!
Great reviews, help us a lot.
Thank you, DC. Fly safe.
Cannot believe they don’t have a combo with just the traditional controller and the new goggles. Huge mistake IMO
Not a mistake, business!!!!
on the surface, i agree but i think there is a reason they very intentionally didn’t do this… the vast majority of dji fpv buyers (and likely avata) were 100% new to FPV drones. most were unwilling and impatient to get get results somewhat similar to what they saw on all the cool FPV drone videos on youtube and ultimately a lot were unhappy with their new drone, crashing etc. to solve this dji is forcing the hand of buyers and giving them the motion controller which gets you a lot closer to dynamic views associated with fpv drones but in a safer, nearly instant to learn way that will make people happy with their new drones and then they can “upgrade” to the full experience with the purchase of a “low cost” (hahaha) $199 fpv controller.
The motion controllers weren't selling. Dji had a warehouse full of them. So they made this the only bundle available to get rid of that surplus supply. Diffently a business decision.
I bought a "second hand" dji fpv controller on ebay for 45$ today. 😊
And after the dji avata on Amazon 😅
I hope it rocks 💥💥💥
@@Rumeel12708 well is it good business to leave 1.1 million on the table (2000 Fpv pilots goggles 2 @599)
This is the first review I’ve seen that really explained the difference between the goggles. Great info.
Another excellent video! 🎉 this is the most I have ever had flying. :) I love this thing so much!
Love the video! Very informative and in depth in just the right areas. Thank you!
Very helpful 💚 thank you
Making fpv world less complicated with DJI Avata. I appreciate DJI made it even more beginner friendly. Not everyone has the time and skills for fpv drones so having a ready-to-fly option is brilliant!
Yup, I agree!
100% I’ve been flying drones since the Phantom 2, and my one foray into DIY-world to make a Cinewhoop was not a fun experience. There are a lot of folks out there who just want to go out and fly instead of building + repairing hardware.
0:32 Stick goes Brrrrr XD
The USB & memory card locations are a real challenge for sure. Thanks for making this video and have a great day!
Wow that was fast... Ray is the first to put up a proper quick review. Thank you
Thanks, a wee bit late (horrible WiFi this week), but I try!
Great video!
Brilliant... Thank you!
thanks for the review.
But one thing that sticks with me... that is an awesome cave. I am very impressed.
Keep up the great views and thanks.
As always, informative.
Appreciate it!!!
Another awesome video!
Thanks!!!
DJI Avata making me want to finally have an fpv drone. Digging the cinewhoop-style!
Best video of AVATA buying guide.👍❤️
I absolutely love your fast paced, no BS, reporting style. It’s a pleasure to watch. Nothing but facts and right to the point. Thank you very much!
Thanks, appreciate it!
Thanks for the video
Gr8 review mate love the studio
Ray - you are The BEST! Period. Know it.
thank you for sharing.
Best review yet.
Wow, I love this
Great video
By far best avata video
Thanks!!
DJI: please make the goggles compatible with existing air units and vistas.
Wow… you really covered a lot in this video with no nonsense yackety yak… mahalo mate
Great information on the new Avata drone, it seems like DJI really got this one right.
Great information on the new Avata drone, it seems like DJI really got this one right. With improved camera and goggles this is really interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, and I agree, this seems pretty well rounded!
One of the informative vids I have watched out of so so many on a decision to buy or not to buy, thank you 🙉🙊🙈
I gave in, I subbed, cheers
Thanks for the vid! I loved how you explained so much especially around the FCC / CE stuff and the fact it is only a software lock. 2km for use in UK is really disappointing! And I wish the goggles had a better battery solution (eg built in on the headstrap like a vr headset) as i don't like cables hanging off my face :-D .... Thanks for your time putting it all together for us was really informative. It looks like a nice piece of kit!
It is possible to get a battery clip and shorter cable to head mount the battery. I got mine from Amazon for the V2
Works well for both pros and beginners. So far impressed with DJI Avata’s features. Hope to experience it soon with the DJI Goggles 2
Good job
Tnx, i'm saving for the Jetson 2.0 ,the real thing
so almost wonderful beautiful video friend i love it see
I already have 3 FPV rigs already. There is only one I would get this. 1) it would be a good travel fpv drone that would lessen the amount of equipment I need to bring on travel. 9 minutes of flight on each battery that I can charge via USB. No more chargers to charge my lipo batteries. I love your videos. Keep them coming. You may also want to talk about the noise in another video. Little drones like this make enough noise to bother a lot of people.
Fwiw, no USB-C charging directly on the drone. But, I'll give them credit that the tiny adapter plate charges via USB-C (the single adapter plate is slightly smaller than a deck of cards, but super lightweight, the longer multi-one is like a ruller). Noise is definitely higher on these, especially if you mount a GoPro atop it...
Thank you
Great video content and detail ! Can you make a demo video using the head movement option?
First drone and.... it is sick fun, end of story
Great review thanks. Nice little drone will get one myself.
When it comes to range that can be solved there are ways to unlock FCC in CE countries 🙂
You’re so good at these reviews 😂. First off they should have had a cine mode on this drone for sure and focused on flying this slower too almost like an interior mode or something unique. That motion controller blows and DJI not offering a standard remote bundle is ridiculous. I felt like I had to be a precision surgeon removing that damn micro sd card too holy crap! 😂 oh yeah I returned mine. 😄 That goggle side touch pad to adjust settings sucks to me too…should be something else. 🤙🏾🤙🏾
I like information for new dji fpv drone
Great video. Thank you.
About range: Have you considered to unlock FCC mode?
Very excited to get your feedback on this one but I'm thinking I can't really handle more film toys in my life at this point. 🤦♂ Maybe next year there will be more time built into the 24 hour day 🤔 I found the buying options odd. I don't really want the hand controller but I do want the new goggles. 🤷🏻♂ Brilliant SD card slot design. Wow. (also, nice dc cave tour going on in here). Great review as always Ray!
Totally agree
@@NickGoldston - Ummm Nick you need this. Expense it to the TTL podcast slush fund. 🤫 💰
It's interesting to hear about the software limitation cap of the goggles between the EU and USA. Here in the US every review I'm watching has the drone go quite a ways behind buildings and through thick forests before you start to see any minimal quality drop. But for you in the EU I think you said you went about 300m behind some trees and it basically completely cut out. I feel like people would watch your review and think "man, the goggles 2 are MUCH worse than the v2's" but in reality they're actually A LOT better, it's just the software cap DJI put on them for EU countries.
Yup, I tried to explain it as best I could with as clear as imagery and tables as I could. Ultimately, if you ever travel with the drone - it's a big consideration.
Can you do. a BEGINNER Avata Versus Mini - 3 Advice video for the less technical newer buyers ⁉ Oops I just saw you intend to do that review and THANKS !
another rock-solid objective video sir, thanks so much for a no-BS POV on this ship in a world of sponsored "reviews". wondering: you able to achieve top speeds reported in specs? super-curious if this ship will actually reach 27m/s (or roughly 60mph) in manual mode. thx m8!
Thanks, appreciate it! I’ll be digging into the speeds in manual mode in the next few days. I was mostly trying not to plant it into the ground at max speed before the review went live in case of needing more b-roll.
That 200m range in the woods is a dealbreaker 4 me. I usually fly my drone in wooded areas and narrow valleys...
I would love buying this, but the fact that they don.t give the RC at 1400$ it.s again, a bad thing. I thought that the RC would be the main controller, and the joystock - a gimmik. So, 1400$ for the combo+200$ for the RC and another 300$ for the batteries makes the full price kinda steep. A combo worth 1500$ including the drone, the glasses, the RC and a spare battery would have been a hit imho
Yup. I would have bought that. Their current combos aren’t doing it for me
Bronhes crazy go to nurk fpv page and watch how far he got in the forest they have amazing pennetration. N liken12km of range lol. Thisnguys nuts
@@maddmavic NURK flies in the US, and thus under the FCC transmission specs. He wouldn’t get 12km there (because that’s beyond spec, which is 10km).
Realistically in the UK at least, it's going to be hard for your spotter to maintain line of sight in the kind of dense foliage woodland Ray is flying in there. Not great, but the legislation doesn't work great for this kind of flying anyway.
@@Dcrainmaker bro watch his channel hi did a full review yesterday on it. Lol this is what indo I been watching shitnon this drone for past 2 months waiting I follow nurk he's one of the pilots that's got me into flying.
I've been looking into these and this seems to be a smaller sleeker one but less badass imo
Thanks for the review. Can real-time videos from the goggle be view on the DJI fly phone app?
Cool
thank you for this awesome video, quick question, you said the controller is at 179$ now, I couldnt find any online, do you recommend any store?
and regarding the goggles it seems you liked the older version more since they have more transmission range? or the new ones are better?
thinking of getting this or wait for the dji air 3 if ever there will be one, my last drone was the mini 2 and it got destroyed submerged on the beach, planning on starting with fpv drones but still want to have a normal drone, will dji avata be good for beginners, bought the small betafpv cetus kit to practice fpv flying but i can't get the hang of it since the normal mode with auto hover is uncontrollable,
Great work! One question I do have though - are the new goggles compatible with the old FPV drone? I need glasses to see and really struggle with the visibility in the old goggles and would love to be able to have the internal diopter adjustment as I can't find the accessory lenses in the US.
You can get prescription inserts made for the older goggles. I have them and they work great. I used vroptician. Just make sure to have your eye doctor give you the numbers from your prescription.
New goggles don’t work with anything other than the avata for now. They may update it in the future but it’s not a sure thing.
Finally someone said it loud, naming it Goggles V2 and Goggles 2 is pretty confusing. Thank you.
Wil the goggles v2 (that have been modified to 1200mw) work with avata. Or will it be reset tot ce mode so that I lose my range on my vista drones?
Eye watering prices
Really? Cause to geta complete FPV drone with batteries, action camera of choice, controller, googles basically fall in line price wise. It's cheaper in some cases.
Hello can I use this avata drone with the Big DJI FPV Remote Controller? The one I fly with the Air unit? The Big One?
New subscriber here. I hope you can compare the camera with the m3 and/or a hero 10. All reviewers are focusing in the drone itself ignoring completely the camera (other than the stabilization modes). Hope you can do it soon!
I'll be traveling a lot and this could be my first FPV drone... portability it's an actual thing, so I think due to the size of it compared to dji fpv, I think I'm going with this one... too bad that it doesn't have the other cinematic features that dji FVP has
Can I use my old Fpv with the new goggles?
Great review! Concerning the googles, would you recommend the older (V2) or the new (2...who came up with that terminology?) ones, apart from the obvious price difference? The new ones are lighter, but have less range. You also mentioned the new ones have a touch-pad on the right side. If the old ones don't have that - how does accesssing the menu works in that case?
If range isn’t an issue, or the slight increase in frames per second on the old ones, then I’d go new. Just so much lighter, better UI (old ones use buttons that are fine but not great).
Any idea as to compatability with RC-N1 remote?
Thanks for doing this review! I’m just curious, what’s the drone that you’re showing at 11:25?
I have the FPV Drone. I was wanting a smaller drone that would work with my V2 Goggles. Can you tell me if the battery connectors are the same on the FPV Battery compared to the Avata battery? Or am I going to need to buy an Avata battery charger separately to charge the Avata batteries?
Hmm yea disappointing that it’s just a smaller FPV. Like you said towards the end, I’m waiting for an all in one DJI drone that can do the FPV but also all the quickshots and active track features of the standard drones, in a nice compact package. The wait continues I guess…
Hopefully one day!
Hello there, just being curious, what was that drone you were showing at 7:37 ? Thanx.
hi can I use the Avata drone as point-and-shoot camera without flying the drone?
Thanks for great video. I'm thinking about Avata, but living in EU have quite big concerns regarding 300 meters range. Was it fixed finally? Have you tried Avata with new DJI Integra, maybe it fixed the problem? If no seems like it would be better idea to buy mini 3 pro and Integra goggles additionally(
would it be possible to use a radiomaster zorro with this instead of the dji controller?
Great video - any way to add Horizon Steady to DJI FPV drone w/ V2 goggles? Really what’s missing
If you record without RockSteady, you can add Gyroflow and lock the horizon through that
Thanks mate do you think it would carry a GoPro 360 on the top of it and be able to take off ?
Shouldn't be a problem. I've been flying with a GoPro Hero 10 zip-tied to the top of it, without any issues (the GoPro Max is actually 4g lighter than the GoPro Hero 10). Obviously, you get reduced battery time - but all is well.
Does the Avata have the ability to shoot Panoramic 180/360 and hyperlapse as well?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but off hand it looks like the Avata can only be flown sideways by using the traditional remote controller. If that's true, it's a pretty significant cinematic option to exclude from the package deal remote.
Would you recommend this over the DJI Air2s?
I'd like to have a quiet drone. How many times I was flying my Mavic Air and the sound was pretty much disturbing anyone around..... A tiny, light, discreet, quiet drone. I'm waiting for this one. -:)
Does it have clean HDMI Output? for live streaming. The only reason I will buy if it has. Thanks for the answer. ^_^
Great review! Just wish DJI would go beyond their FPV virtual simulator supported only on iOS platforms.
It’s now on Android too if you go to their website
@@stevejakab Thanks Steve! I did, and works great!
Agreed! I want some of those automated flight modes on the Avata as well. Since it is so well protected I would worry less about smacking into things. :)
Same here!
Finally someone who knows this is film making tool not a freestyle or race quad.

I honestly have no need for a device like this, but I watch all of his videos. They're so detailed and informative!
Apart from the drone which I would buy in a heartbeat (given the funds), interesting scenery... Cable lay vessel? Vineyard? Where is that?
Hahaha, thanks! Cable vessel in the Netherlands where I live, and vineyards in the south of France.
Saw your article about the thoughts of the Dji Avata that u quote its for inddoor flight and also acro hi speed.I mean how fast is it?
It can go 100KPH in Acro mode.
DJI has shot themselves in the foot with those purchase packages.
They also suck rather hard for STILL giving mode 4 fliers the shaft...
Have they sorted out the range on the rc controller
do the new goggles have any sort of video outpit over that usb c port? like HDMI?
They can to the phone app, but it's not quite HDMI, it's just something you can see there (and then I suppose replicate via streaming).
Will they make the new goggles work with the DJI FPV? Or are they only for the Avata ?
Only avata for now. No promises on if they’ll make it backwards compatible in the future
Great review!!
Have you checked that indeed the range is better (6km) with the older v2 googles in CE mode?
Thanks in advance
It's on tomorrow's to-do list (I'm a bit limited in that I live well inside a no-fly zone, so all my tests require travel outside said no-fly zone).
@@Dcrainmaker excellent. I will wait for the test
Thank you
2km is a dealbreaker..not that I will be flying it that far...but poor penetration in closed distance is a no no
Does the brake work on manual mode?
Great review. Question about range. The 2 advertised range is 10km but you were only able to get 1km, while outdoors over open water? Also, DJI states that V2 only has 6km range, while 2 has 10km range, but you actually find that V2 has much longer range? Thanks
Correct, the 'Goggles V2' goggles have more range than the 'Goggles 2'. Keep in mind though, the 10KM range is only for FCC/US mode, not CE/EU mode (which is spec'd at 2KM).
@@Dcrainmaker Thank you very much!
Excellent review! I’m currently GROUNDED after a mountain bike CRASH 2 weeks ago, which shattered my right shoulder. I’ll try to get an Avata, but have to get my new steel & nylon replacement shoulder working before I’ll be able to get back out in the field. -Jim
I would like to see you in a bike with the googles on and try to beat a Kom 🤣🤣🤣
