The best rock chip repair video and result on CZcams in my humble opinion. He did an excellent and clean job. Every other video I've seen the result usually has a crater/indentation after polishing. Don't rush it. He Bob Ross'd it for me. I have a lot rock chips though. I'll just take me time, wait til spring and hop to it without trying to finish quickly but finish thoroughly. StarFire pearl is one of the best colors ever crafted.
thanks Maurice
😆 That's like saying your favorite color is clear 🤣
Midnight Blue Candy Pearl 🤘🏼
I agree
Legend! You've taken the fear away for me - thank you, after breakfast I'm going to do this for the first time
@@cvrpovHow do we get in touch please?
The „problem“ for us as viewers who’d like to use this method on our own cars is: It takes balls of steel to go from a few millimeter sized blemish to - temporarily - ruining a palm-sized area in order to get an awesome result like this in the end 😄
Gotta get worse before it gets better mate
I know what you are saying! But you just gotta trust the process... 😬 Absolutely love your videos @cvrpov
No balls no glory son 😂
That's why it's so important to practice on your neighbour's car first when he's on nights.
@@kaferere 😂
You can tell this guy's a pro because the way he's doing it, it looks like he doesn't give a shit because it comes so naturally to him, but it's still turning out perfect anyway, even with black paint.

99.9% of body shops out there: “this panel will need to be repainted…”😂
Haha it usually does need painting
The tip using the plastic applicator was a game changer on leveling the paint , thanks👍✌️
Worse case: "the whole car needs to be repainted"
It's just like when a transmission slips or a cylinder loses compression. Instead of fixing it they just want to replace it.
To be fair asking a painter to do a detail shops job, you get what you deserve?
I've been painting for over 40 years. This was an awesome job!! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
As a Detailer myself, you absolutely smashed this.
This looks INCREDIBLE, I dont understand how the sandpaper isnt scratching the paint everywhere
Nicely done and very informative with the types of brushes, needles, swabs and like you said KEEP IT SIMPLE! Thanks again 👍
Thanks alex
Excellent video, lovely to see all the stages and then the last clip with polishing was amazing, seeing is believing. You do make it look so easy. I will have a go when the need arises. Big thanks for taking the time to make the video and sharing your knowledge.
Thank you very much!
You make paint repair super approachable and easy to understand, thanks for all the effort you put in your videos and sharing your knowledge.
Been watching your videos for a good while now. Fantastic in every way, informative and without any drama. Just ordered some colour matched automotive paint for my Zafira, no worries at all after watching many of your uploads. Top channel.
I love your videos, straight to the point and don’t make it complicated to understand = )

All stone chip videos omit top coat 😱 which puzzles me. Yes it’s probably a near match but by top coating you go a step further to protect the chip and allow compounding to blend it in.
This is the best video I’ve seen on how to deal with chips.
You will like my latest video.. check it out
Incredible.
Skilled craftsmen right there.👊
I gotta admit, I was truly skeptical about the way you applied on the paint, where I was told to leave the paint a little higher than the chipped out area, let it cure for 24 hours, THEN sand it. Your results were spectacular and very expedient to say the least! The video was easy to understand and just overall very good! A+ 👍😎
Great. Thanks for watching alan
Don't do this to your vehicle, the polish will wash off in the rain and the scratches will be visible again. The only way to fix it is to apply several layers of clear coat again.
@@X152535🤡
@@X152535 FALSE. Stop posting false statements unless you know how to properly polish a car.
That's is NOT how polish works. I paint correct one fender on my car and nothing else. The compound/polishing is sill the shiniest part of the car after multiple washes and it sits out in the weather in an open parking lot.
@@X152535 FYI: Some auto bodyshops do this daily after painting a car. There is no way to avoid orange peel. Even factory finishes have it. Wet sanding an entire car followed by compound and polishing will not simply wash off. There is no way rain, water and a basic wash can strip all those chemicals to leave a rough sanded finish. If you have a washing solution that can do that, you might want to reconsider the long term effects of what it will do to your car's paint.
A very nice job. That gives me the confidence to have a go myself.
Years ago I bought a black BMW that had a large paint chip missing from the bonnet. I think the previous owner had run under something. I made sure it was clean and then built up the paint using a chip repair paint with a brush. I ended up with a build up of paint higher than the surrounding area. I then used T Cut to take it down. Finally polished it and most people wouldn't have known it has been done.
Nice one
That final reveal is INSANELY satisfying!
Amazing - incredible finish

Happened to my car within a week. So damn frustrating.
What a transformation, gives me the confidence to try it myself thanks for sharing!
I've never found this but thanks for the comment
Cool! I usually mix my base and clear together for doing chips, good to see someone elses technique!
That was simply brilliant - cracking to watch what you made look like a really straightforward process. I think I’d actually give that a go too. Thank you, I’ve just subscribed hoping to learn some other great tips …like how to repair a ‘graze’ where some kind sole has rubbed the rear quarter just forward of the wheel arch as they’ve left eye car park given my VW T6.1 a lovely mark to fix 🙄
Plenty more in the pipeline
I was going to drop my car to be touched up for the same thing but now I feel I want to try it. Amazing video and hope to see more diy episodes!

how did you do?
This was what i needed to see & learn….THE BUSINESS!!! nice 1 pal 🙂
Great new [to me] method for single chips, no masking/overspray. Thanks
No problem Allen
It appears like a bloody miracle!. Is it that you are so gentle with the grit sanding? You don't ruin the clear coat. A fantastic job. You are an artisan. I will have a go but don't expect to get your results, which are yes ....95% perfect.
Thank you .
Thanks for watching
with 1500 or 2000 it's kind of difficult to ruin the clearcoat, so don't worry.
How did you get on with it? And the result? Please
Fantastic content and step by step process for a Diy Job 👏
Thanks for your Comments Mrs Buff

Great tutorial! Just simple and clear. Keep going with the good work.
thanks, will do
Nice work. I’d imagine doing this the first time it would be hard to believe it will look this good in the end. All that sanding and fear it will make it worse, but it works. I have a lot of the types of chips on my hood. Need to fix then.
Give it a try. Take your time.
How did you get on? And the result?
Literally needed this today!!!!!! Perfect!

Great 👍🏻
Picked up a new to me car this weekend, near side rear panel has been keyed about 6-8 inches, a previous owner has just touched it up but made a mess of it, obviously hasn’t gone to the lengths of this video, when the weather improves I’ll be using this tutorial to sort it. Thanks.
Worth a go pal
Thank you, fixing some chips on my front bumper and this was a great help.
As a valeter, i too have done this, except i did the complete car years ago. Brilliant work sir 👍👍
8:29 Let's not get absurd, mate! There will be no one looking at my car like this! Job very well done! Thank you very much for your time put in sharing your experience!
I had to show it for the critics to which there are many
Lucked out seeing this, just starting a hobby detailing business, people asking for some chip repairs, I said yes to a couple people already. Your method will be perfect for me to try!! Gotta watch all your stuff now 🙂
Glad you like the content 👊🏻
I would say for deeper chips to use some filler first and a bit of primer but you got a great result here
Finally, after watching tons of videos where people seem to be completely happy with utter crap results. I'm going to use your method after a bit of practice. Thanks!
Haha, Thanks for watching!
absolutely stunning result. cheap and easy
Thank you! Cheers!
Stupendous.
Probably another advantage to this method is the paint check on resale. A full section respray can be detected, while this here, not at all.
Yes a very good point.
I can't believe how many youtube tutorials I have watched this week, and how many of them are overly complicated for the sake of "the perfect fix" or something like this. Amazing video, thank you so much!
Question, though: what if there's rust forming already? What would you do?
I try and keep things straight forward. No bs. Glad you appreciate it. Clean any rust out carefully and treat with a rust inhibitor before touching up
I didnt think this would look half as good. Really good!
Thanks
amazing result, well done !
Brilliant video. In my previous experiences of chips etc body shops have said you can't do this and always priced to spray the whole panel when clearly there was never any need.
Theres not enough money in this type of method
If the customer wants to keep their paint original and a touch up is the only option I'd offer to do it but at a fixed rate similar to that of a panel respray.
Just a tip I saw on AmmoNYC, Larry takes a hole punch and punches the sand paper, then glues the piece removed to a new pencil, on the eraser end.
His idea behind this is that the eraser has enough give to allow the sand paper to reach into the chip, to clean up the jagged edges but also allows you to focus most of the sanding on just the chip.
He also uses a syringe to lightly deploy the paint into the chip, until it's filled. The tiny needle allows it to move the paint around gently as well.
Either way, good video, and very similar to the way he does chip repairs. It's great that people like you guys, go out for your way to not only share your trade secrets but show your techniques.
Larry is a talented guy and has a great CZcams channel. I've seen that video... a good while ago, I have perhaps tried the method at some point. I actually think my chip repair comes out better than his. I think the surrounding paint around the chip being leveled aswell helps the overall process and finish. Ok.. you are removing some clearcoat... but ultimately some Compromise has to be met when doing a repair like this. Alternatively there is always a respray.
@@cvrpov This is why I like looking at multiple people. It's nice to get different perspectives. I think his video is probably great for cars with thicker paint as well. Additionally, I believe that video, which is I think around 6 years old, has had a replacement update video. I appreciate that people keep the progression of work up like that.
I liked your video as well, rock chips suck and all hate them. I'm glad I found your channel to add to my rotation. People like you and Larry really help out those of us who still appreciate our cars like people used to and don't see them as an application, like a microwave. Keep up the good work!
can you share the link?
@@mjjferreira I have provided the link below. Now mind you, this video is actually 9 years old. If you search on CZcams "Ammo NYC chip repair" he has had 3 paint chips update videos since the video below as well. All of them contain fantastic information and show the evolution of his already meticulous work.

Very nice video, explanation and showing how it's done. Gave me enough confidence to do this myself now!
Good job!
Glad I could help!
You make it look so easy. I’d be scared to death to try this on my car !
It is do able for anyone but nothing wrong with caution
Fantastic job! Does the paint need to be thinned down to work with that method? The problem I have always had with leveling chip repairs is the factory paint is harder than what is being used to touch up. By the time you correct the 2k grit scratches out of the original paint, the chip is no longer level. I haven't used a heat gun to cure the paint or clearcoat on top of the color so maybe those two things would help. Great work - I need to give it another go I guess.
I've noticed alot of people use 2000 to try and level the paint. This is a bad idea and usually just starts to sand down around the chip.. rather than the chip blob itself. On German cars I even use 1200 as a 1st grit. 1500 at least should be used 1st.
"Haven't used clear coat on top" 😂
Well done that looks amazing thank you for showing us your good work 😊
Cheers Paul
Amazing job! Thanks for the advice
No worries
Stupendous job! I now have the confidence to try this myself. Question: How would you recommend finding a suitable paint for one's car? Cheers from across the pond :)
It's solvent Automotive paint. Paint factors readily sell it here in the uk
Thats a cracking job, I have a nera black metallic car with a fairly deep scratch that I’d like to get rid of.
Will follow your guidelines and see what happens.
Any chance of putting links up to the products you used please?

Well done mate. Thanks for the post.👍
Stunning absolutely stunning... Cheers for sharing....

Wow! Amazing results without doing a full respray.
What lacquer did you use?
2K clear or just a standard touch up pen type of lacquer?
For the buffing will meguiars ultimate compound do the job?
Thanks for watching. I used some 2k clear on this but a touch up or 1k lacquer would be fine. Ultimate compound should be ok yes

Appreciate the response.

This will 100% work with waterborne paint. I’ve it done many times.
Edit: I like that he said it’s 95% better. Honestly that’s what touch up paint is for. If you want it 💯 you need to respray the panel imo.
I think solvent is better but glad you have had some success with waterbased
Yeah, you could get the whole door sprayed and that may leave some imperfections most people can let go of that 5%
I would spray all car. You done perfect job well done

excellent - thanks for sharing, my dude!
Expertly done. Very impressive. Looks so simple. I guess it requires a bit of patience when sanding down.
Just take your time yes
Excellent job. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers!
Really good tip about going from the coarse to finer grade sandpaper and enlarging the area at the same time. I guess this creates the blending effect and most other videos I watched gloss over this detail. I also like how you used a buffer pad on a drill. I didn't know you could get results this good. I have a few scratches around my A pillar and inside the door frame where someone tried to jimmy open the door and they are such an eye sore, but I may attempt a repair. Hard to reach spots with a mechanical buffer.
They make assorted shapes of cotton buffing wheels for Dremels that would work for those tight areas
Fantastic result , easy to follow what the process was .
Thank you! Cheers!
Now that was a good video demonstration! Good job!
