In the Carpathians (the mountainous area in the far western part of Ukraine where Alina was born), a unique cry is traditionally used to call to each other in the mountains. In this case, each person chooses a sound that identifies them. That scream at the beginning Alina came up with for herself.

Dumas, Dante, Picasso, Shakespeare, Grim Brothers - France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany = The Great 4 of Eurovision & Winner 2021. Of course, a song has also many references to native culture and history, but...
It was not just a performance with the ethnic message, but also a big statement to bring all European countries finally together, not to regret remembering the old good days, "being in the shadows", but do something now and become heroes of our time.
P.S. This is my understanding of the song, not the author's, but anyway close...

There’s a huge scandal because of Alina Pash ‘winning’. Ukraine overwhelmingly voted for Kalush, but judges shuffled the votes and didn’t disclose them to the public. Kalush is the real winner. But Alina has powerful friends in Ukraine and good promotion in Europe, that’s how she ‘won’. Such a disgrace. Everybody in Ukraine I know voted for Kalush and Wellboy and everybody is mad as hell. There is also a political scandal involved as Alina Pash visited Russia after the war broke out in 2014 and she is culturally collaborating with Russia. Ukrainian patriots despise her very much.
