    We've been full timing for 3 years and moved up to a Class A with a stacked WD. Love having it. There are some things worth the cost due to convenience and not necessarily due to a strict cost analysis.

      @ "Seeking 70" and Liz & Paul : I agree. I'm a "convenience" guy, and although I'm always on a tight budget and not a big spender, I would gladly pay (well maybe not _"gladly"!)_ whatever it takes for the convenience of having a washer-dryer in my rig.

      Great point. What is your time on this planet worth? Spending less of it at a laundry mat, and traveling to and from it are worth thousands to me. You can get money back, but you can't get time back.

      We like laundromats as we get all laundry done at once. We save time by doing it all at once. While I get groceries my husband does the laundry. In 2-3 hours we accomplish both tasks for the week. We usually do it ona rainy day.

    Love your channel. I live in a 20 foot travel trailer so, obviously, a washer/dryer isn’t going to happen. I have to say one positive thing about laundromats. Go to the local laundromat in a little town, find the bulletin board (there WILL be one), and you can find out about every raffle, church pot luck dinner, babysitting services, and “handyman for hire” in the whole area! A whole world of information right in front of you while you do your laundry!

    We aren’t full-timers, but we go camping typically every month. We have a 2021 Grand Design Reflection 367BHS - and when we ordered it, I also had the Splendide 2200 vented combo installed before we even picked it up when it came in. We LOVE it. Our young grandkids go with us a lot, and it’s so nice to be able to throw their dirty clothes right into the washer/dryer. It’s also nice to not have to take tons of clothes with us on trips. We paid about 1900 total for the unit & installation - and have NO regrets. We also researched all of the brands available - and Splendide always came in as the top choice.

    We no longer RV, and we were never full-timers, but we did make a couple of cross-country trips in our big rigs. Our first motorhome came with a stacked unit. Loved it. The second one had a combo unit. I liked the stacked better, but I learned that doing a load every day in the morning kept us on top of laundry and we didn't have to pack so much when we went on trips. I threw everything in together; thank goodness for Colorguard!

  • @campsaintsnowallsrvers1703

    We have one in our newer rig, had one in our old one and it began to leak but it was amazing when it was working. But in our newer rig, we have a place for it, and WOW! After spending $20 a week at the laundry mat in different places. When my dogs get sick or have an accident, I can just throw them into the wash. I don't have a pile of gross stuff waiting for the laundromat. However, the con to this is it can be running the dryer on 30/50 amp with no A/C because it does take a lot of amps to run. So, for the summer, we bought 2 drying racks and put our clothes on them to dry. I would not trade this for the world. It really is freedom!

It really lets you fine tune your results.

    I really regret not getting the combo unit when we ordered our rig. I’d trade the extra bed for it right now, if we could. LOL! At home, our condo building only allows ventless dryers (separate units, but same tech). Yes, it takes a little longer, but not much. It’s also a very quiet machine that works very well.

  • @daveanddianethrowingcautio5707

    Sometimes it's NOT the money, it's the convenience and knowing what has been in the washer you are using. And NOT having to haul your cloths to the laundry matt. I can not elaborate enough about the pluses of having a washer drier in the unit. We don't use our washer when boondocking but the longest we normally boondock is 15 to 18 days and we don't need to do laundry to survive that long. It's not always about the money.

    Thank you for sharing your experiences as well as the pros and cons associated with the purchase/install…
    My wife and I are not RV people yet, but we’re working towards it…
    The few times that we’ve needed to utilize a laundromat while traveling it’s not been too bad of an experience. However, of those few times there were a couple that we could have done without, the ones without air conditioning or the machines that don’t work properly, or smell so bad it makes you wonder what the last user put in there…
    I think the convenience, as well as time savings far outweigh the costs.

  • @SuperSushidog
    @SuperSushidog Před 2 lety +1

    We're glad you're decision has worked out well for you. It wouldn't work for us because of our lifestyle. We've been FTing for 3 yrs in our 36ft motorhome. We like to boondock a lot, 7-8 or more months a year. The best part is being able to live in some of the most beautiful wilderness areas imaginable, and not being sandwiched into an RV space, lined up with 50-100 other RVs like sardines in a can. The savings generated by living rent free on Forest Service and BLM land doesn't hurt either. Of course there are challenges, like in any worthwhile endeavor. Stretching our limited water supply and tank capacity is one of them. We carry 110 gallons with us, which is usually enough to last the 2 week BLM and FS limit before we must move, dump and take on water. It's our limiting factor, but it's just enough if we are frugal with showering and dishwashing - our two biggest water uses. We have three, 5 gallon collapsible jugs in our compact car toad that we must sometimes fill to help us squeak by, like we did today, as our dog needed a bath and we used some extra water cooking, washing rice, cleaning fish and such, as we eat sushi often (I'm a retired sushi chef). We have a 15 gallon blue tote that just fits in our car, to haul off excess gray water when necessary.
    I'm afraid that a washer and dryer would stretch our water supply a little too far. Plus there's the added electrical consumption that would require running the generator for a couple hrs. a load (about $4 in gas.) Being smaller than the big machines we currently use, it would require at least 5-6 small loads a month, or about $20 in generator gas just for laundry. Normally our 620 watt solar array is sufficient for 90% of our modest electrical needs. This doesn't take into account the space/weight capacity we'd be losing - important when you travel with full tanks as we do, nor the high initial expense of buying and installing the compact washer/drier to begin with. Then I must consider all the extra trips to town for water (which sometimes costs as much as 40 cents a gallon) and dump. All together, it seems like an expensive proposition that is not at all convenient, considering all the extra labor involved. The 4-5 months that we sometimes winter over in a FHU RV park, (not this this year, as we will be on a BLM LTVA) we also have in-park laundry facilities available that are convenient and relatively inexpensive, costing about $20 a month, similar to your experience. But if it works out for you based upon your lifestyle, that's what matters.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks so much for your comment, Chip! Very well thought out about what it's really like to boondock and the different variables you are dealing with. Would love to chat around the campfire with you someday- IF you ever get to a campground! I know we would learn a lot about boondocking!

    I bought our washer & dryer at Camping World they had it on sell and plus with my military discount I got it for less than a thousand. The dealer said when I ask that they will do it for $2300 so I look at a lot of CZcams video and install it myself that was one of the best mod I did. Thank you for sharing your experience with the W/D in your rig. Please give us a long term update in the future of any issues with it. We are considering going to a fifth wheel from a TT and my wife says her #1 have to have is a W/D. I am surprised nobody makes a dryer that uses propane, seems that would halt the issue of poor drying. I would think they could use a vent similar to a RV furnace to use the outside air for combustion.

    We ended up becoming full time in our RV due to a fire in our condo building which destroyed or damaged a number of units two weeks before we planned to list it for sale. Nearly a year later, repairs are expected to be done in December. We recently purchased a GE ventless steam washer/dryer combo. A cycle takes 2-3 hours,. I had read that this type of machine does not dry clothes very well. The first load I ran, I reached in after a cycle and was upset to find out that the clothes felt damp. I took the load out and set them on the bed - and a minute later realized they actually were dry. My theory is that I’m feeling the steam from the machine. I have never had an issue with anything getting dry except with some delicates. A clothes rack that fits in our shower solves that problem. I am also thrilled to not have to drag clothes to a laundry. Happy with our decision.

    Hi Liz! There is a wonderful selection of little washing machines out there that include a spin drum. I bought mine for under $275 CND. It weighs about forty pounds. I enjoy line drying my clothes so a dryer was never necessary. I absolutely LOVE it. My last camper didn’t have hookups, but the washer itself was compact enough that I could pop it in to the shower and fill and drain it in there, and then set it aside when we needed a shower. I use it all the time even for just spinning out the kids bathing suits and swim towels to dry them more quickly. My new camper has the hookup so it stays there now and I appreciate not having to move it anymore. Full disclosure, we are not full timers! I can’t do big loads in it or I would burn out the motors. However, it’s great to get a couple towels done and some t shirts and shorts. It can handle a pair of jeans or two. We always have clean socks and undies! 😂 So I hope this is helpful for anyone that doesn’t want to make a big investment but would enjoy a bit of convenience! I will try to find a link to the style I bought and post on your thread. I love your videos. We are in our forties and so not full timers yet, have kids etc, but you guys are a go to for me for educating myself when the time comes! Thank you for sharing g your experiences. 100% agree with the convenience factor. We find also that we don’t need to pack as many clothes for the long trips which then saves space. Our motorhome was purchased used and came with the washer dryer and I never thought of it as a must have item. But now I would never do without. If it breaks down it will need to be quickly replaced. Now the dishwasher, on the other hand, quickly got repurposed into the Vitamix storage drawer!

    Our Class A came with the combo Splendide. We are not full time and have not used ours, but our grandkids have been asking to go RVing with us and I think it's a good thing to have. I winterized it maybe 8 yrs ago and have never even opened the door to it. LOL I was thinking about it the other day and thought maybe I should run it and make sure it works. I know several people who found the plumbed drain line still had the stopper in it and had a spill. some had problems with the water lines leaking and one even had a problem with the vent for drying. So maybe I should test it out before having to NEED it and something doesn't work. Thanks for the reminder! HUGS~Donna

    We don't full time, but do winter in Florida. Our last 5th had the stacked/vented washer and dryer by Splendide. Loved them. New rig only has space for a combo so we got the Splendide once again but due to Covid and supply issue our dealer could only locate a non-vented one (7200XC) which I was not happy about. However, after having used it for a couple of months, we are extremely happy with it. Doesn't make our rig any hotter inside than the vented ones nor does it take any longer to do laundry. We previously knew people who had a combo unit and complained that clothes came out not dry and were wrinkled - well I only have this to say. If you don't overload your machine and remove your clothes after the cycles finish there is no problem with damp wrinkly clothing. That was the fault of the users. We're very happy with our combo and would probably get the combo again in the future even if we had room for the stacked. JMHO

    Just recently purchased our new Park model type travel trailer. It came with the same exact washer/dryer combo. We just tried it out. Stated that you can wash a larger load then dry. Take some clothes out and only dry have a dryer at a time. I put in 4 pairs of men jeans/work pants. Had to take two pairs out after first dry cycle to let the other two dry and then put the other two back in. Seems to get very hot and feels like it is steam drying the clothes even on Cotton. It sure does take a long time and be careful after opening it because it does get very hot inside. I think it is good to have especially since we have dogs. I can wash the sheet they lay on or small items like that if need be. I think the more serious part for us is making sure we winterize it properly. Safe travels.

I decided to purchase a used Haier HLP21N Portable Washer machine used for $100, and easily replaced the $6 drive belt. the17" footprint fits exactly in my shower/tub. Hooks with quick connect water to shower supply and hang the drain on the water knob. I easy remove it when Shower needed to shower. Best to raise it couple inches, and I lucked out with a small heavy duty refrigerator adjustable plastic stand that has level bubbles... used to make it precise if needed. Many settings and nicely one load Washes 2 good size each load, 2 jean, 2 shirts, 2 under ware, 4 socks and pillow cases! Drying? well Mostly let solar take of it, otherwise take two or three loads to the local laundrymat. Save money and time.

The newer top loader mchines are great. Fully automatic. Hooks up to the kitchen sink or most basic faucets. Light enough qnd compact enough to roll into the closet when no on use. Black and decker makes a few. Comfee is the brand I have works great. Ive used panda machines. They also have small portable electric dryers however i just hang my stuff up it works out fine. We drove over 70,000 miles in six years of motorhoming, including to/from Alaska. Had a couple of failures which I repaired myself. We have a washer-dryer combo in our 38 ft diesel pusher motorhome... In our experience the small size of a load of clothes and the time required to wash and dry limit our usage to "occasional"... Spend two days doing the week's laundry in the coach or take it to a laundromat and have the whole thing done in an hour and a half... If you have a few "dainties" or items you need right away then yes, the convenience of doing the wash in the coach is worth it...

    Washer and dryer have always been on our must have list. We had been in the "no" group for a combo unit, but are hearing more positive reviews about them. Periodic updates on your experiences with it are greatly appreciated.

      Thank you Dave & Laura. Yes, we fully expected to have to get the stackable, we are very pleasantly surprised with the combo. We will keep you posted if there's any change in that status. Have a great weekend!

      The key is to get the vented model. You do NOT want all of that humidity being discharged inside your trailer and you can buy the combo in either vented or non-vented.

    for me...i am a singe guy who will be using the 5th wheel maybe 3 times (week or two) per year...having the same washer/dryer you have, not only is saving me from having to babysit my laundry at the laundromat, but will most definitely increase the value of my camper should i decide to sell!!!!

    Glad you did this! I was wondering if you would install a w/d in your unit. While we don't RV full time (just part time) when we do, I hate having to use a complex's laundromat. I was even thinking of those "spin" washer's (that would have been fun "not"). You won't regret installing one !!!!

    We have a 30' Vista, I wish it had a washer dryer, but that is short for one...next coach will have one!

    Guys just not having to use a washer that who knows what’s been put in there. Just look around the laundry room. Always filthy And a toy hauler is the answer . We have ours in the garage area and fits perfect so we purchased the Mac daddy LG all in one and it’s been awesome. yes a full size one. hope you get your home back soon.
