England is doing well because the general overall standard of International football has declined so much so that our best, look good compared to everyone else. Inclined to agree with you. I'm happy that we've got through to the semis, but the way we got here is painful! We have not had a decisive win all tournament and have all but scraped through by the skin of our teeth. Looking at our play, we look lazy. No energy, hardly any drive...we slow to a walking pace probably because we don't know what to do or where to go which the opposing team can easily exploit. You're right that it's individual players like Saka, Palmer and Bellingham that have made the difference. It is very frustrating that we can't just be good given the talent we have on the pitch. This goes beyond simple technical coaching although i'm sure he does that too. More than anything for the best performances the squad needs to get along, play for each other, to the strengths of each other. This hasn't always been the case where they effectively competing for selection.

Italia 90 England were just as bad if not worse. Rewatch it, only game they played well was the semi against Germany. Lucky against Belgium, lucky against Cameroon, awful against Rep Of Ireland and Egypt. Euro 96, awful against Swiss, played well for 15 mins against Scotland, played amazing against Netherlands, really lucky against Spain in quarters and again played well in semi against Germany. This Euros is pretty much following the same pattern to be honest. We only remember 90 and 96 in a fond way because we were younger, less bitter and it all felt new and exciting. I would rather look at the positives in life than focus on the negatives, another semi is a good achievement.

I was thinking the same throughout the Euros. England is doing well because the general overall standard of International football has declined so much so that our best, look good compared to everyone else. Inclined to agree with you. I'm happy that we've got through to the semis, but the way we got here is painful! We have not had a decisive win all tournament and have all but scraped through by the skin of our teeth. Looking at our play, we look lazy. No energy, hardly any drive...we slow to a walking pace probably because we don't know what to do or where to go which the opposing team can easily exploit. You're right that it's individual players like Saka, Palmer and Bellingham that have made the difference. It is very frustrating that we can't just be good given the talent we have on the pitch. This goes beyond simple technical coaching although i'm sure he does that too. More than anything for the best performances the squad needs to get along, play for each other, to the strengths of each other. This hasn't always been the case where they effectively competing for selection.

If England played as badly as in the other 4 games we would have beaten them, but they played better today and they got the one lucky shot off the post, almost indefensible, that screwed us. Italia 90 England were just as bad if not worse. Rewatch it, only game they played well was the semi against Germany. Lucky against Belgium, lucky against Cameroon, awful against Rep Of Ireland and Egypt. Euro 96, awful against Swiss, played well for 15 mins against Scotland, played amazing against Netherlands, really lucky against Spain in quarters and again played well in semi against Germany. This Euros is pretty much following the same pattern to be honest. We only remember 90 and 96 in a fond way because we were younger, less bitter and it all felt new and exciting. I would rather look at the positives in life than focus on the negatives, another semi is a good achievement.
