A clash of style. Spain, the well oiled polished machine. England, the gritty never-say-die star studded ‘moments’ team. It will be a classic.
This is exactly how I view both teams. Each one has earned their way to the final just in different ways.

Don’t know why he gets so much grief from certain people in the media and ex footballers who now work in the media. Let’s face it, every player who’s put an England shirt on since 66 has NO right to offer up any criticism. You never won ANYTHING in that England shirt. Yeah, the abuse GS gets is ridiculous. The so-called golden generation couldn't even qualify for Euro08, so the excuse that the talent in the current England squad means we should walk it doesn't carry any weight for me.
GS has stamped out the club rivalry, united and motivated the squad and staff and their families, and got them achieving to their potential for the first time in decades.

Not sure it's fair to criticize pundits for doing their job, especially when most people are agreeing with them. What I will say is that Southgate hasn't received the deserved credit from some England fans for what he's actually achieved. Whether he stays or goes he's given me the most enjoyable time as an England fan in 40yrs - however we've played or if we win it or not - and for that I'll always be grateful to the man.

28 years on from Euro 96, Gareth Southgate goes to Germany, the country against whom he and we lost at our own tournament, and wins the Euros over there, completing possibly the greatest ever character redemption arc in history

As an England fan, I came into this Euros optimistic… and rightly so… we had the Prem and La Liga POTY and Europe’s top scorer. But after the sh1t sandwiches Gareth served us in the group stages, my perception of the team changed and I couldn’t see this team progressing beyond the quarters.
I’d already come to peace at being knocked out during the 85th minute of the Slovakia game.
But then the Jude moment happened… and every single minute since then has been a bonus. The resilience they've shown in the knockout matches has made me believe again.
So come Sunday, win or lose, this England side has exceeded my expectations.
If Spain win, fair play… they have been the best team in the tournament and fully deserve it.
But if England win it, they would fully deserve it too for being the ONLY team able to stop Spain… Croatia couldn’t, Italy couldn’t, Germany couldn’t and France couldn’t.
Either way, come Sunday, I am just happy that I can support my country in another major final… which is a lot more than what many of these England haters can do!!!!
Portugal in Euro 2016 were diabolical all tournament and went on to win it, France in Russia 2018 were pretty poor throughout but won it, there's something about an under performing grinding it out and getting over the line, that's us this tournament, apart from the first half against the Dutch we've been dreadful, I'm 44 and have seen disappointing tournament after disappointing tournament, for some reason I actually think we are going to grind this one out, I'm probably going mad but I actually think we are going to win!

Well said. Finally a fan that actually speaks sense. I'm part of the generation whose first memories of England in an international tournamentbwas Euro 96. Up to 2018, that was as good as it got. I lived through the 'golden' generation, the hype surrounding Rooney, the oxygen tents and the WAGs. 2018 up to now has beem the only time I felt England were a proper team who had realistic chances of going far and actually winning tournaments. 2 finals, 1 swmi and 1 quarter speaks volumes. Yes, no trophy but when compared to other teams during this period and what England achieved from 1996 to 2018, this England team can be seen as a success in respects to how far England have come.
Win or lose England have done excellently and if Southgate does leave, I would bet good money England will not reach the same heights.

@@Englishman-nz3jm The difference is that a lot of those other times we've been ridiculously unlucky and this time we've been ridiculously lucky. Since penalties were introduced in 1990 we've had 17 tournaments. We've lost on penalties 14 times.

I’d say this England team is a little different. Zero miss in PK? Late late winning goal? Never choked? Never happened before.
Coming back 3 times from behind! Subs coming off and acting professional, subs coming on and scoring, assisting and taking successful penalties!
I would also argue that Pickford, Maguire and Phillips are 3 players that have played some of the best games of their career in an England shirt. I think Saka, Rice, Henderson, Shaw, Trippier and probably loads more but I'm done counting, have played as well for England in tournaments as they have done for their clubs. Please, someone- can you tell me any players, ever, from any tournament, any position, anyone, who has ever looked even a fraction of the player they were at club level, when playing in a cup for England before Southgate? It has literally never happened, 23-man teams, every 2 years for my entire life, and not 1 player has ever matched their club level in an England shirt until Southgate. And now it's half the team. Even players like Konsai who come in to cover in a quarter final, no problem.
People should be a bit more humble I think. Southgate isn't a brilliant tactician, therefore he's not a brilliant manager.... but he's done things as a manager that Fabio Capello, Bobby Robson, Terry Venables and many more didn't come close to. The obvious answer to that paradox is that maybe there's more to being a manager than the tactics side, and maybe, just maybe, Southgate is very good at that stuff.
For all the stick Gareth Southgate has gotten and gets, 100% he comes across as the most decent human being, and only wants to do the best for football and the country he represents.

I'm 44 years old, ever since watching Italia 90 as a young lad I've seen nothing but disappointment after disappointment, but what I haven't seen is an England team that go behind and come back to win games, all be it by hook it by crook. I've never been a southgate fan, ever since day one I've said he's the wrong choice, boring style of play, parks the bus, doesn't know how to use the attackers we have BUT he has got us to another final by hook or by crook, I actually think we are going to shock the world and win this tournament, I may be going mad but I actually see us winning against Spain, it will be the usual 90 or 120 minutes of a rollercoaster of emotions but I just have this feeling I've never had before. I think us being the underdogs will actually help because normally we are the favourites and we choke. Come on boys finish the job 👍

I don't care what anyone says I really like Southgate, he conducts himself with class and is always respectful of the opposition. He took English football from the floor and made us a respectable footballing nation, no other manager will deserve to win a championship more than this man. We went out in the group stage in WC 2014, lost to Iceland in 2016 and after that Big Sam was sacked in disgrace.
