  • This is Extremely Rare video that would only be available if you were a railfan, a Canadian Pacific Railway employee, and a cinematographer. Fortunately, John is a huge railfan and former railway employee and he has been taking videos of trains for a long time. For this video, John had taken the job out of Penticton, British Columbia during March and April 1984. The video takes us out and back, from and to Penticton, westward over the Kettle Valley Railway's Penticton Subdivision. The video is taken from the hack on the back (the caboose), both from the end of train and right behind the locomotives.
John recently had his collection of 8 mm Film (with sound) digitized by a professional processor. The results weren't as good as he had hoped. However, I (James, aka Skeena Pacific) am remastering the digitized videos and hope you find the results satisfactory.

As a five year old, I rode over the kettle valley and columhia and western travelling between Vancouver and Nelson. I still remember parts of the trips at 72.

I've been to Switzerland which is similar to BC with mountains and challenging terrain. They drill tunnels rights through them with highways and railways. Imagine if the KVR was still operating at the very least a regular passenger service like the Swiss have? If the KVR is ever used for rail again how similar would it be to Swiss rail lines? Interesting thought

So this train would have been leaving Penticton bound for Merritt?
    Through Princeton ?
