  • John says, "In 1979, I was working as a brakeman out of Revelstoke, BC. This video shows Winter on the Mountain Subdivision and a short piece during the Summer of the CP's no longer existing Okanagan Sub. You will see Glacier ( twice) and note the BC Rail boxcar getting a new set of trucks at that location, and the horrible Connaught Tunnel which I despised. We also have the Kicking Horse Canyon and the Stoney Creek Bridge with tons of snow everywhere. The title refers to views from the Cab of an SD40 and from the Cupola of a caboose. Thanks again to Peter Layland for digitizing my 8mm silent movies.
I am a huge railfan and former railway employee. My friend James, aka Skeena Pacific, compiles and edits the video clips I took of trips I made in an effort to capture trains across the World. He produced them into the series called "Travels With John". The title usually indicates the locations."

Great film John. Brings back memories for me. I was a young diesel mechanic out of Kamloops for Detroit Diesel. Used to spend a fair amount of time at the Connaught fan house working on the engines. In fact we installed a new V-16 in the winter after one of the fires and things were redone in the engine room on the East side. I subscribed to your channel.

THAT, is why I'm glad I wasn't in the running trades... It's all glorious in Summer with nice conditions etc. But in Winter, with snow like that... It's all good till something goes awry. When you have to walk the train to find a problem... In the dark, with snow chest deep or worse. etc. Glad I worked in the shops... Great job James/John.. Cheers AC

"You could add that was the wye just east of the Rogers Pusher station on the Mountain Sub. and those units are waiting to be added to the near the end of our train to push us up to the Stoney Creek sign up the big 2% grade." - John
