Only just discovered this video.I was a Pinjarra based volunteer with HVTR from 1981 to 1995,great times with great people.945 looks a bit scruffy,don t the crews clean locos any more?.Great to see 1401 smoking out the bush,I was one of several HVTR members who put the money together to purchase this loco from Westrail so I still have a financial interest in this machine.

The most beautiful horn I've ever heard. I wish I could make the trip to Squamish to ride that most excellent Budd car,see the museum, and dream of a few BC Rail MLW and SD units to be there too. Thanks for sharing the video and bringing back memories of the Provinces Greatest Enterprise.

As a five year old, I rode over the kettle valley and columhia and western travelling between Vancouver and Nelson. I still remember parts of the trips at 72.

I don’t think one of those diesels was putting out much or any power considering how much work the w class steamer was doing and the overall speed of the train.considering how much smoke was coming from the xa class I think it was doing very little and all the work being done by the w and the f class banker

That 2-8-2 Is Actually Port Of Gray's Harbor #5. For Many Many Years, The 5 Was The Mascot Of The Mt. Rainier Sceinic Railroad In Elbe, Washington.

Great film John. Brings back memories for me. I was a young diesel mechanic out of Kamloops for Detroit Diesel. Used to spend a fair amount of time at the Connaught fan house working on the engines. In fact we installed a new V-16 in the winter after one of the fires and things were redone in the engine room on the East side. I subscribed to your channel.

THAT, is why I'm glad I wasn't in the running trades... It's all glorious in Summer with nice conditions etc. But in Winter, with snow like that... It's all good till something goes awry. When you have to walk the train to find a problem... In the dark, with snow chest deep or worse. etc. Glad I worked in the shops... Great job James/John.. Cheers AC

My wife's cousin lives near Thornlie so we stayed there in 2013. A five minute bus ride to the Thornlie station and had access to Perth and Freemantle-loved the easy access to a narrow gauge transit system!

Great video, The Garret NGG16 NG129 was a south Aftrican engine running on there 2ft gauge lines. Puffing Billy purchased it and NG127, It was regauged to 2'6'' in the Puffing Billy workshops. See some details here: www.melbournesteam.com.au/pictures/backissues/SSMarch20.pdf

Was there in November, 2022, loved Melbourne's trams and suburban rail network. Took the latter to a fabulous day at the Puffing Billy, and was treated to a short cab ride in a NA.steam engine.
