- I have noticed that doner kebabs are getting rather expensive these days so I wondered if I could make my own using this frozen doner meat...

That looks absolutely banging , and u have made me hungry for kebab now. Lovely jubley ❤
Scratch the itch Sophie, kebab yourself up :)
Using Boursin is a fantastic idea, Papp! I will be trying that with my homemade doner.
Cholula is my favourite hot sauce. ✌
Cheers mate, I reckon cheese will be involved in all of my homemade kebabs from now on :)
Just add beer 🍺 😊
And plenty of it!
That was artistic spreading there. Until the leaves went on it was Jackson Pollok. A takeaway kebab is my monthly treat at £9. Gonna have to get involved !
Go for it mate, I have one every two months or so :)
Bob Matthews deserves all the credit on this product Papp... As i tried getting a hold of it from Asda... But unfortunately they were constantly out of stock... Then one week it suddenly disappeared from their online shopping website... So although i remember telling you about this product Papp... I didn't manage to ever get a hold of a pack for myself... So Bob deserves all the credit here pal... Although having seen now just how good it looks... I'm going to try and get a pack for myself from Farmfoods... Many thanks for the review Papp... It's very much appreciated my friend... All the very best... Cheers mate. 🍺
Many thanks Rick, I do hope you can find a packet as I'm confident you'll have a good old time :)
@@Papparoni 👌👍
Now, they will be round after the pub for their takeaway fix paps. Brilliant idea and Boursin is a delightful cheese which no takeaway would add. Glad to see that you did 👍
Many thanks Uncle, indeed cheese of some form will be in my homemade kebabs from now on..
Amazing, been looking for a great doner kebab product, will definitely be trying this! Great review. Have a great weekend! :D
Cheers Fergie, you have the best weekend too :)
My local kebab shop has been letting me down recently with cold food with not enough sauce so i might try this. Farmfoods do decent nan breads so that would probably work also
Same here, the kebabs around here are nothing to write home about, and yes, naan would work well
Blooming heck the inside of it looks really scrumptious! Be glad i haven't come knocking at your door lol. Speaking of kebab I'm having that butter chicken king kebab from Aldi tonight with my boyfriend with a wee drink 🍻. Xx
Hahaa, that did make me chuckle Ashleigh! Let me know what you chaps thought of that curry :)
Virtual insanity is what were living in. Have a great weekend Pappy and co 😊.
Aren't we just mate!
I wish we could hear more of you on the piano! You could do a full length piece at the end of a video!
Cheers mate, I'll see what I can do..
Nice one Paps I shall keep an eye out for this particular kebab meat the next time i'm in the shops, as it may just rock up in Morrisons you just never know!
Hope you find some Mr Atkinson, well worth a go :)
For those interested in making it yourself, Doner Kebab is made a few ways, the more traditional way is just lamb meat using shoulder and lamb mince. Another common way is with cheaper cuts of beef, minced beef (20% fat) and minced lamb with some shoulder lamb, the lamb mince content being mixed with the beef mince, the lamb shoulder at the top so that the lamb fat drizzles down when cooked. You could include some chicken to lower costs further.
Added to the meat mixture is juiced onion, yoghurt (authentic Greek will do), whole milk, unsalted butter, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, fresh Thyme, Oregano, the meat is then frozen if you want to pan fry it or refrigerated if cooked on a rotating spit, which ever method let it marinade overnight.
Of course you need to have a Hot Chilli sauce and a Yoghurt Mint sauce, make it or buy substitutes. Then all you need is a suitable bread and salad.
Many thanks for that Skorpion. I made my own once and it was ok, yours sounds far better.
@@Papparoni You're welcome, it's an expensive thing to make well what with the price of lamb...
Im going tobuy some for my hubby x he loves kebab x
Looks like the Ludwigs aren't Beatles fans.
Hahaa, indeed Beethoven is certainly not a fan, Mozart can tolerate them but decided to back Ludders up!
Mechanically separated chicken sounds so good I may start eating meat again. Never heard of this meat but loved the accoutrements…Love the package you created. Thanks for sharing. Always great to see you, dear. ❤ Cheers.
Hahaa, I like your wit Mary!
Sounds amazing pap, i love donner meat with chips and salad. That wrap you made looked very tasty
Cheers James, indeed I was happy with how it turned out
Forgot some fried onions then some ice cold beer then some Jamiroquai in background 😊 bliss.
Oh yes, fried onions would be superb on this thing, and Jamiroquai was on last night :)
It looks just like the proper takeaway, Might look out for that Mmm 😋
Worth a go Malcolm, hope you find some :)
a gastro delight!
Many thanks survivor!
Nice review as usual papp. But oh no this is not the one i bought from Farmfoods today. I bought the spicy chicken shawarma kebab. No mention of mechanically recovered meat in the ingredients list. It says 80% chicken leg, chicken skin which doesn't sound great. So maybe this chicken kebab meat is also mechanically recovered. But it doesn't say so on the ingredients list. Apart from two listed phosphate stabilisers. The rest of the ingredients sound reasonably decent basically various herbs spices and seasonings. So 454g of food for £3.99. Just add your own sauces and other additions and it's a very fair approximation of a Friday Saturday night kebab for at least half the price. It's well worth giving it a go.
Cheers Dean. I'm not a big fan of chicken shawarma, it's all of that chicken skin for me, even the kebab house ones. The Iceland one I tried had similarities to the takeout ones so yours may well be ok.
Ahhh cannot beat a little L&M / Oh yes that looks excellent! / Oh, so on the list / I am in the interim going to get a kebab van takeaway! /Mark
Don't blame you mate, I get the doner craving every couple of months or so!
I picked some of this up yesterday to make a naga kebab and chips Saturday night
Naga kebab, you warrior Sam!
(96) Well, seems like it does the bizzo, and will be a welcome addition to your mealtime. And the Boursin is really nice stuff, I sneak it into a lot of things to jazz them up and give them a good flavor and creamy texture.
I agree, Boursin is really versatile :)
Kebabbaroni 👍🤤
Now you're talking Papp.
Nice product, exquisite fixings and preparation method. 10/10 mate. Nice to see you put something together.
How fortunate you are to have frozen kebab meat in your supermarkets. No such thing here in Australia, only the fresh stuff off the rotisserie and that'll cost you an arm and a left testy. I've often thought about buying some and freezing it, but I'm not a fan of reheating frozen cooked meat because it always has that polar watery taste.
The Cholula hot sauce is good stuff. It's hot but not extremely. Keep an eye out for the Cholula chilli and lime sauce (green cap). It's hot and tangy. Great for grilled chicken and pork.
Great review. Cheers John 😀
Hahaa, making me chuckle again John. I have to say after what you've told me over the years that we are rather fortunate over here as regards the frozen food selection :)
I literally bought one of these bags yesterday and now I'm excited to get it in my gob.
I'll copy your construction apart from the cheese, think I'll go for a bit of strong cheddar.
Get reviewing the new pot noodle paps chicken fajita flavour not seen anyone do it yet 75p in Asda at the moment.
I'm confident you'll like this stuff Frankie, and thanks for the heads up :)
@@Papparoni I had it for lunch. I actually ended up putting it on top of a margarita pizza with some franks hot sauce and served it with some coleslaw.
It was good.
It was
What a top idea making it into a doner pizza, nice one Frankie.
Just tried it - liked it 👍🏻
they sell another brand as well, but avoid that one it's not very nice
Good to hear Mark. i tried their meat kebabs and liked them at the time but have had them since and they were not so good.
Donna does like her Kebabs lol
She's known for it!
@@Papparoni she is lol
Looks a good recipe pap but its friday can't be arsed to cook😅
Hahaa, quite right Joejoe :)
Just make your own. A million times better.
Indeed so turbo.
Not keen on the chicken in there but who cares really if it tastes that good! Nice one papp il definitely pick some up.
Go for it Jay, tasty stuff :)
Rather you than me Pappa. A least you wasn't playing 'Help' after you ate it.
Hahaa, nice one Peter!
Those ingredients sound like road kill, not for me Paps but thanks for trying it.
Hahaa, like it, a road kill kebab!
Oh yer, that looks delicious Pap 😊
It was well tasty Rebecca, deffo going back in..
Looks decent mate but the price per KG is a bit much.
Had a Tesco chilled vindaloo for the first time earlier.
Too mild so added loads of chilli flakes 😁
It surprises me not that it wasn't vindaloo strength chap, I'm sure your addition warmed it up well :)
Buy 3 and it's £3.33 per pack
How does it compare to the King kebab meat you reviewed from Iceland that was at the time your favourite supermarket kebab meat and was if I remember mostly lamb but I don't mind chicken kebab but prefer chicken shish, shawarma or gyros if i am having a chicken kebab and yes salad garlic mayo and loads of chilli sauce 👍👍🌯🌶
I see you like to load your kebabs Robert. I would say I like them both as much as each other. The King Kebab one had 11% mutton and lamb content but this one, although it doesn't have that, tastes just as good :)
How did I make a new YTP of you about doner kebabs and not notice you had put two new kebab reviews out?
The mind boggles my friend!
Spunk your till at farm foods instead of the kebab shop 😂
Hahaa, it has to go somewhere eh Lynne!
Hi farm foods is a long way away for me
This is a shame Adrian as there are some decent things to try
I just can't get around the fact " non proven lol " that doner meat is meant to be lamb ?
Yeah, surely it would be even better if at least they swapped the chicken for lamb
Traditonally I think you're right Chris
@@Papparoni did look bloody good though lol
Cheese and Kebab, a definate no, no!
Never tried it before, have to admit, I really enjoyed it!
I like that Boursin velvety I hope they do a chili one but haven’t seen it. The meat was made in a lab and u were brave to eat it. I thought u played the tune really well. 👏🏻🫶🏻
Brave is one word for it, and thank you, glad you enjoyed the music :)
