  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD Dually is built to tow 22,000 pounds. That's a lot of weight to tow. In a TFLtruck most extreme towing test we see just how well the 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500 4WD Crew Cab can tow when loaded down with not one, but two trailers and 19,000 pounds and race it up the Ike Gauntlet HD.
    The Ike Gauntlet is a timed run up one of America's steepest highways from 9,000 feet above sea level to the top of the mountain at entrance to the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado.

    You guys should really start to standardize your tests. Make all the 1 tons tow 19K, all the 3/4 tons tow 14K, and all the 1/2 tons tow 6K, preferably on the same day (or on similar temperature days), with the same driver, and see what happens.
    On another note, that 3500 is damn impressive.

    The funny part is most of the guys commenting on this have never towed a day in their life. Yet, they still comment like they know what towing is and what people who actually tow, want. Towing your john boat behind your VW to the river does not make you an experienced hauler.

    Hey guys, I just finished watching the other two vids for 2015 Ford F350 and Ram 3500. Times are about the same, I would say 20 secs different should not be a big deal, however other makes made 3 mpg at most while this GM 3500 made it over 5mpg. Sounds like a big difference to me, even though tong weight of trailers may have something to do with it.

    I am a GM customer and have 2015 GMC 3500HD Denali that is my daily driver which I love. But, even if that semi at the 14:02 mark passing the GM is empty it probably weighs more than the combined weight of the GM and trailers. I pull my RV trailer (22K) with a Volvo 730 and would pass my 3500HD at the same pace. Also, many states and Canadian provinces don't require CDL licence to drive a HDT if used for private non-commercial use.

I would hardly call manually shifting gears while hauling "driver skill". If a $65,000 Heavy Duty truck offers a manual mode on the tranny, use it. Operating a manual transmission is not really a skill. Keep up the great work!

    Not 10 cents worth of difference between the big three truck builders.. Ya buy the truck you're most comfortable in and take in price and reliability if that matters to you.
    2015 DMax dually CC 4x4 and we love it. 1.5 less MPG with B20 Bio diesel.
    Has the best jake brake system of the bunch. Super-quiet and we don't have that Powerstroke Dark shadow of reliability following us around. Loaded Denali $12K less than the F450.

      The slide on the controller is how you manually test the brakes usually going around 15-20 mph and adjusting the gain (+ or -) to the desired braking level. Usually one less than brake lock up. When you test the brakes, you don't hit the truck brakes, just the slide for trailer brakes. The new silverado controller is very nice. Mine is an voyager on a Suburban

    but new body styles out and gas engines the new duramax is coming, and those brake temps using exhaust brake is stupid your making all that heat coming to a stop to measure the temps if you could coast down to first gear then brake then u might be ok.

So what if it only gets 1 mpg, gas engines are way cheaper to buy and maintain than a diesel. You can buy alot of gas for what the diesel costs. Especially if a person isnt towing that kind of weight all the time you dont need a diesel.

      Good question, a hot shot trailer with two tandem dual axles has the same about of tires, but our double trailer has twice as many axles thus twice as many brakes. But drag and rolling resistance could be similar. Dual wheels might have slightly higher wind resistance verses single tires in a row.

      my comment is why on earth would we need a truck that can tow that much?! i mean yeah cause it can but at those numbers just get a freaking peterbilt or freightliner commercial truck. either way to tow that much most states would require a cdl. really i mean horse trailers dont go passed 1500 fully loaded with horses inside and common campers roughly weigh 1200-1500 lbs the heaviest (most weigh much much less. enough that a 2500 can pull them)

    • @davva360
      @davva360 Před 9 lety

      +danielfred16 Common campers weigh in at 5000 pounds or more. Mine is 8100 pounds and its not even a fifth wheel which can often be in 12000 to 14000 pound range.
      I agree for most people the max these trucks can do is way more than they will ever need but I would not want to tow my 8100 pound trailer very far with my F150. My 150 is rated at 9400 pounds and can pull it without issue but theres a bit too much weight on the rear suspension to make it a preferred choice.

    Good I guess, But, I'll stick with a FORD, LINCOLN, or MERCURY, put a FORD 460 V8 Engine in it, SOLD!, An old Mercury Marquis Colony Park Station Wagon with a Ford 460 V8 Engine, Top Speed 125 MPH, Roof Rack Maximum recommended capacity 250 pounds, all steel frame, all metal roof rack, Steel bumpers, and it can carry quite a bit of weight inside and out, without putting a strain on it, And a ride so smooth that you'll think that you was sitting on your couch at home, only down side to it, 18 MPH, Straight up Beast, Considering the amount of weight that is already applied to the vehicle it still has enough power to act as a work vehicle, with gas prices now a days better carry some gas cans in the back as well, lol. I'd even put it against a 1967 Cadillac Coupe Deville, heck I'd even put it against this 2015 CHEVY Pickup any day for any test, Win or Lose, I got a 1994 FORD Aerostar SPORT which is more of a Racing version of the Aerostar now, it's maximum speed is 90 MPH, the maximum recommended roof rack capacity is 100 pounds, enough for one 40 gallon water heater, Plastic Roof Rack, I'll take my chances with the 18 MPH, at least the vehicle won't buckle like a cardboard box, crushing anyone inside and at least no body can hack my vehicle, same thing said about any brand, including FORD.

    I really wish they would quit talking about grade shifting. It's not a real thing that any of the Detroit 3 have, nor do the (American made) imports. It's a totally made up term that 'Mr. Truck' says like it actually is something. And if your truck brakes are that hot in a vehicle with an exhaust brake, and your trailer brakes are that cool, then temp and wear issues are totally your fault for not knowing how to use your vehicle. Last thing, use your driver interface screen to see what gear you are in. If your looking at your current MPG, it also shows you the gear you're currently in, at least mine does..

    Farmer allis is right. Geez use the the same trailer,same load, same temp outside roughly,same everything or the tests are not quantifiable. As usual the korean chevy duramax is down 100ft lbs of torque to dodge's cummins and fords diesel . Good luck with that GM.

    • @donald61398
      @donald61398 Před 8 lety

      It's not all about torque ford has a flexing frame issue why Chevy and dodge do not. I'm a Chevy fan and is ok with the less torque because it's proofed it's self in other situations that the ford an dodge could not do. Dodge has 150 pounds of torque more now and I still fine with Chevy. It's all what YOU get out of it in the end not everyone else
