  • This ingenious device takes you beyond the circle. It's based on an old design, but this version is easy to build and works with an ultra-smooth action. Using a simple micro-adjust feature, it produces a perfectly smooth edge.

This jig is a mechanical engineering work of art !!!
THAT should be exposed in galleries, not those idiotic random splashes of paint!
    Beautiful!!!

If you have your cord plugged in above the piece you are working on, overhead, you won't have to fight the cord, nice jig

Well mathematics can be the solutions of many many problems in life and this is one of them. There are many manners in which one can draw an ellipse and improvise a jig.

A clever device indeed! And yes, an overhead power source would be helpful, but a great setup anyways.

Great jig for sure. I wonder how much effort would be needed to keep the router stationary while turning the timber. Would certainly stop the electrical cord getting in a knot.

I think you introduced yourself as Richard Kendig. I went to USAF Officer’s Training School in 1968 with a Dick Kendig. Might you be related?
I enjoyed your engineering and video.

I'd make one improvement, which is only preference... t-bolts that run through the UHMW sliders and black plastic knobs on the top for quicker change out...

A tip here is to drape the router cord over one's shoulder so that it does not get stuck while routing.

Fine jig. I had it only in compass form for layout. Thanks for proposing a very handy router model. May I suggest a greater sliding system, for making an oval frame for example? i;e one outer cut and one inner one. In this case you have to keep the same pin adjustments, or else you lose the parallel. Bit tricky to explain.

Hi, your idea sounds nice, but is hard to understand from here. I use a CAD program called SolidWorks (very useful program to create any parts and
assemble) Why don't you make a drawing.

You never showed the lining up of the base so that it was dead center and the grooves aimed correctly.

Dhaiwat Sant It's attached with 2 screws. The video just jumps but you can see the screws sticking up when he lifts it off. He mentions it in the start too.

As he states it is made from 1/2" and 1/4" plywood there will only be a simple slot in the lower 1/2" part; the top part is just four separate pieces.
