    I like how every BMW enthusiast hates this man, and flames his work. Everybody thinks of the E65 7 series. And other "Bangle Butt" cars. No one ever thinks that this man designed the cars that those "enthusiasts" praise so much! E46, E39, E38 etc...
    People destroy this man for doing something daring, he was way ahead of his time, at least 20 years in my opinion in terms of design.
    Bottom line is people are never happy. If a brand is doing well with designs and there are only slight variations throughout the models (Audi, pre '00 BMW) the cars are deemed, dull and boring. "They all look the same! Blah blah"
    And when you do something daring like Chris Bangle, and revolutionize, "You ruined the brand! Blah blah" Those people are all full of shit. If bangle would have simply kept slightly progressing the models, he'd get bad rep for that too.
    So, I for one, praise Chris Bangle's work. I think he did I a fantastic job at BMW.

    • @cockshield
      @cockshield Před 7 lety +4

      If Bangles designs were ahead of their time, why has his design philosophy all but been abandoned by BMW? The E90/E60/E65 will go down in history like the Aston Martin Lagonda - a temporary deviation of their heritage and design language, but ultimately a mistake.
      Agreed though on people who criticise German cars that look the same though, in fact I always use the E90/E60/E65 as a reference for why making all your core models too different from each other is a bad idea.

      I used to hate that car and now I like it so much i actually went and bought one.
      Whenever I see my car or another E65 I'm left in awe by how much this car looks like it could be a brand new model right now and not look dated.
      He really was ahead of his time, and every car he designed or helped design at BMW looks great and like it could've just rolled out of a dealership (if properly taken care of until now).

      And yet the models he and his teams (everyone likes to forget car design isn't a one man show) designed had the highest productions numbers for their respective generations. Everyone trumpets how ugly they are, yet so many people bought and so many other companies copied like never before up to that point. Is the proof really in the pudding?

    The E60 could be sold new, TODAY, and not look out of place. I can't say the same about the lauded E39. The E60 is hansomely proportioned, the lines are not offensive, and place it next to the E class and A6 of the same era and those just look tired.
    The Bangle haters of the 2000s have AGAIN reared their heads against the new M3/4 series front end. Advanced design is about taking risks, bucking the trend and establishing identity. BMW needed to break the mold that's been plaguing their designs for over a decade now.
    To be fair, the Bangle 7 is a hideous mess (the LCI a little less so). I just don't understand the same dude that could conceive of the E46 could also pump out that dumpster fire. Wonder if he was having marital problems or something when hitting the clay block.

    • @MisoElEven
      @MisoElEven Před rokem

      Yeah, the E39 was designed in 1993 of course it looks a bit outdated...still its one of the best looking BMWs ever made. Has the aggression, simple lines, representative look. The difference between then is almost 10 years and Im sorry but the E60 looked out of place when new, let alone now. E90 with a bit of tweaking would look pretty modern though.
      Bangle fixed the 7 series with a facelift so I dont really see the need for hating him either.. The only thing missing in BMW history for me would be the 6 series that was supposed to be based on the E39.

      I guess taste has no friends.
      I my view E60 is the one of the most beautiful mainstream cars to this day at every angle, it's just there are so many of them and they have been for so long, we got used to them.
      E65 is a weak one, although it looks ok after facelift. Better than the S class anyway, let alone A8.
      E63 is a car ahead of it's time. It looked odd at the time, but it looks modern today, which is something not many manufacturers can and do achieve.
      E90 is a bit faceless and dull, but that (conservative) approach was after radical E60 design and polarizing opinions about it to save cash cow from harsh critics. And even "dull" E90 while parked along side competitors of the time looks better, not as outdated and by looking at it for a bit longer you start to appreciate the harmony of it.
