    I've just realized I've been teaching my daughter that my love is conditional based on what I've been taught through religion that God's love is conditional; that He only forgives me through my pain, through my agony of knowing I messed up, through my works. I've been unknowingly teaching my daughter that through her good deeds, will I show her affection. But if she messes up, I turn my back towards her instead of loving her more.
    I need to discipline her, but I don't want her thinking I love her any less because of a mistake. The other day, I screamed at the top of my lungs because she ate her school lunch snacks. Not only that, but I quit speaking to her, then took her phone and TV away. She felt so bad that she cried herself to sleep...over some snacks!!! She then wrote me a letter explaining her terrible decision to disobey me and she apologized profusely, and all but crawled to my feet to beg my forgiveness. Again, over snacks. What happens when she's older and does something really stupid as teenagers often do? Will she even feel comfortable talking to me? Will she try to fix it herself or rely on someone else? Or worse, will she internalize it and self-destruct? Will she end up hating me? Does she already hate me?
    This is how I've felt in my Christian walk. Until now, I've heard so much negativity about myself that I've never felt worthy of love from my Father. I don't want my daughter to feel this way not only about me, but about the Father as well. Thank you Bas, for your obedience and sharing this Word. God Bless You!

    If I may add:
    * We were not made sinners by our own disobedience; neither were we made righteous by our own obedience. (Romans 5:18-19)
    * The language of the law is “do”; the language of grace is “done.”
    * The OS (Operating System) of the law of works is willpower; the OS of the law of faith is love.

    The acceptance of the gospel of grace does not magically or supernaturally make our ongoing life's behaviors and lifestyles sin free. So the true answer is that YES, a person can ( and does) go on sinning and he still is saved forever. You have to believe that we are 100% eternally saved by grace only through faith or you have to believe that we are saved by Christ PLUS our works of obedience. There is no middle ground. Will we be the same sinner, with the same careless nonchalant thoughts on sin after we are saved as we were before we were saved? Most probably not. But , regardless, we ALL ARE still sinners in the flesh. Thankfully, through Christ's blood, we have become righteous IN THE SPIRIT of Christ in whom WE NOW DWELL when we stand before God. His spirit alone is the sole, the one and only, righteousness in us. We know, that our individual righteousness is NOT dependent upon our response of obedience and behaviors to his Spirit as we live in the flesh, but our righteousness exists entirely in his Spirit within us.

However Paul here is speaking to believers. So HOW can you, “might become “ if you, as you say you already ARE, against what the scripture says??

    imagine if the apostles thought to themselves "hey we have the grace of Jesus, let us now relax and live our comfy lives because we are already right with God, we can never be unright with God". then what would have happened to the gospel? Nobody would want to spread it! Why should they work so hard? Salvation is not by works anyway. If everyone thinks like you, then the good news will not spread. I call this false teaching!

    I know our "relationship" with God cannot be broken but can our fellowship with him be broken by willful sin?
    As a christian, do we not walk with God by repentance & faith?
    Colossians 2:6 "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him"
    1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
    Being "in Christ" does not exempt us from confession & repentance, not to restore the relationship/standing with GOD but for cleansing & restoring fellowship with God.
    In John 13 Peter didn't need a bath but he did need his feet washed. You don't need a bath if you're already clean but you do need your feet washed because they can get dirty.
    "3Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, 4rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” 7Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” 8Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” 9Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” 10Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet,a but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” 11For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
    I always took this exchange between Jesus & Peter to be speaking to relationship with Christ & fellowship with Christ.
    Christ said, "If I do not wash you, you have no share with me." Relationship as the bath that doesn't need repeating but feet washing as the fellowship/cleansing needed repeatedly.

    • @sakkel.7357
      @sakkel.7357 Před 7 lety +1

      "If I do not wash you, you have no share with me."
      Replace the word "I" with the word "Word".
      Ephesians 5:26
      "to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word"
      Like, as You watch and listen to this video Jesus is performing "feet washing" in You. It's about the Truth penetrating You washing away all the doubts about Your unmerited position in Him. That is the purpose of the Word, it's not to push You down, but to lift You up, through faith in His words, to reclaim and truly experience the blessing of being His sons and daughters.
      Satan, the accuser, always trying to smear You with guilt in order to provoke You to "repent" and "trying to do better" thus denying Christ in You by Your dead works. The true repent is turning away from the mindset that tries to earn something into trusting in His already fulfilled work.
      So, the "feet washing" is Him convincing You about Your eternal, unmerited position as His child. No amount of good or bad works or doing nothing does make You less His child. You have Your earthly parents and You are their child no matter what; nothing can change that fact, not even death. How much more wonderful is Your childhood in Christ :)

I would love to have a face to face conversation with you, because this gospel does not corroborate with the teachings of NT and OT. I am not against of what you said Bas. Just want to find clarity and opinions on some things. The Bible says that Grace is a gift and we have it no matter what. But is it possible for a person to be proud to sin, believe it is NOT wrong, and yet they call themselves a Christian and that they are still saved because they believe in Christ Jesus? I've done a lot of research and collected many opinions and so far I've found a major difference of a Christian who struggles with sin, and a person who is proud to sin and yet calls themselves a Christian.

    • @BasRijksen
      @BasRijksen  Před 9 lety +4

      Juan Wolf Is it possible for a person to be proud to sin, believe it is NOT wrong, and yet they call themselves a Christian and that they are still saved because they believe in Christ Jesus? Answer: Yes. However, this is a clear indication this person has little or no grasps with Grace - namely who Jesus is. The more a person tastes of Grace, Jesus, the more His indwelling nature will be reflected in this persons life. In other words, as someone sees they are AS SINLESS AS JESUS IS, guess what they'll do? Effortlessly/automatically sin less. I mean, you behave after what you believe. In short, if I start believing/seeing who I really am (sinless, holy, righteous, etc), I'll automatically live like that, empowered and animated by the Holy Spirit.

  • @jms4406
    @jms4406 Před 9 lety

    Im not against what you are saying but I have become just as legalistic about not doing anything that I hardly pray, or perhaps convince myself that I know god but never spend anytme communicating with him. Also I do not go to church anymore. How do you address these kind of issues where not doing anything produces this kind of fruit. I think that teachimg has become more philosophical ane less practical these days. It ls like we are convinfed that if we accumulate enough knowledge about god we will figure him out but we end up losing him in the process, approaches, and methods. Cqn you und erstand what I mean. These methods seem to be glorified business ideas and capitalizing on what sells.

    • @BasRijksen
      @BasRijksen  Před 9 lety +2

      Good question. I've found that teachings are the most practical when you're showing who Christ is, thus who you are, and that your beliefsystem comes in line with the realities of Him and His finished work? Why do I say that? Because the Bible says, as a man thinks (beliefs) so is he (Prov. 23:7).
      In other words, What you believe you'll experience and live out. So my job, for example, is merely to help people embrace right beliefs as they look to the Holy Spirit for revelation (but listen to people's teachings) and the practical outflow of that is that they'll live joyful, free, happy, productive lives.
      Why productive? Because Grace is the devine empowerment to be all you're called to be and to do all you're called to do. When grace is understood right we'll not be working less, but even more - however not from human sweat but driven by divine energy from the Holy Spirit. That's why Paul said this stunning statement: "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me."
      So the idea that grace makes people lazy is a myth!
      Religion wants us to accumalte knowlegde so that we'll have the right beliefs and right doctrines, etc. However, grace says, "it's not what you believe about God, but what God beliefs about you. We are on a discovery, yes, but it's without formulas or methods; there is ZERO pressure to perform or to have your ducks in a row or to have the right doctrine. FREEDOM. Everything has changed after the cross.
      I agree religion is a glorified business model that sells to customers who they manipulate to come back in order for the machine to run. It's main way to sell to people is the idea of distance and delay. God is far away and things are not yet - while God is in us and things are already all accomplished. Tell this to people and religion is out of business. No more methods, steps and formulas to selll....no more hidden mysteries about a God that one person on the platform has revealed to him...
      About praying...I guess it's how you define prayer. Listen, prayer doens't change things....it only confirms things (that were accomplished 2000 years ago). Prayer is merely living/meditating from the place of the finished work.
