The number one reason to get a K-Ultra over the C40 is the fact that you can grind 18g for espresso in 30 seconds. When I tried a commandant it you probably close to 2 minutes

I recently watched a video on Tetsu Kasuya's channel where he compares many hand grinders and he says his favourite still is the C40, for it's balance of clarity and body... now, I love me some confirmation bias (I own a C40) but I was thinking "Come on, is it really still one of the best? I dunno..." Well, seems like it is for you too 🤣
PS: I hope people at Comandante never change that box actually. Considering how heavy it is that extra protection is very welcome 😂

I own Kmax and comandante. Often heard that Kmax and k-ultra are extremely similar so decided to comend. I only tried pour over and often I felt like 1zpresso can give me easier to identify notes, gives more clarity, but is often less sweet. Comandante I felt like gives you wider range of flavours with more sweetnes, but it tends to go more on bitter side. I also couldn't decide on Kmax vs comandante, but I got zp6 now and situation became clear. I am probably going to sell Kmax and stay with c40 and zp6. I really recommend you to give zp6 a chance. On aeropress eliminations I managed to push acides into sweetness and got 2nd place using it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I agree with everything but bitterness. I usually got more bitter cups from KMax than K Ultra, and almost no excessive bitterness from C40.
Every year in autumn 1Zpresso releases new grinders (or new versions of old ones) so maybe I should wait until then with buying ZP6? Or maybe Pietro grinder instead?

Hi Jack! Great comparison and tough choice to make. I have the C40 Mk3 that I use for Aeropress/pour overs and the J-Max for espresso. I still chose the J-Max for espresso where high amounts of torque is needed for those lighter roast beans. I have DF83 v2 on order, but I will still keep the J-Max for portability. C40 Mk3 with Red Clix is great, but I have been spoiled with the grind size display of 1zpresso.

C40 vs Zp6 on pour over:
C40 will have more complexity, a bit more body, and a bit more caramel/chocolatey sweetness. Zp6 will have higher fruit sweetness, higher clarity, more florality, you can get similar intensity but it won't have the same thickness in mouthfeel as C40. My favourite analogy is Zp6 is like neutral sounding speakers, C40 has the bass and treble turned up a bit more. The better the coffee inherently, the further Zp6 will pull away from C40. Zp6 is at matching grind size will brew faster than C40. You have to grind finer enough that Zp6 brew is longer in brew time than C40 to get similar intensity of flavor.
Zp6 at its finest grind setting can barely pull a 6.9/7 bar, 1:2 shot. It can probably do turbo shots but otherwise it really is not for espresso. It definitely grinds faster than C40 though.
I would say Zp6 is better but maybe 10% difference. Most people would not be able to tell them apart if not side by side.
In another note, I still highly recommend the Timemore 078 for pour overs. It is the first electric grinder I have tested that I find to be consistently better than Zp6. The only grinder I have tried that is more expensive is the DF83 with SSP HU burrs but that isn't ideal for pour over.

Having used a C40 the last year and purchasing a ZP6 a month ago, I still very much like the C40. I wouldn’t say it’s better than the ZP6, but the difference between them is not huge, it’s just that the ZP6 with lower fines presenta coffee in a slightly different way.
The C40 is still a great taste profile, no matter what new grinders are released, it will always keep producing great cups. You might prefer the grind profile of a newer grinder, but I wouldn’t FOMO on another hand grinder, be that even the Pietro or ZP6.

I don't care about a one-shot taste test. I don't believe I--or almost anyone--can really tell the difference between coffee ground with one good quality burr grinder vs. another. The taste comes from the coffee beans, not the grinder. What I care about is build quality, ergonomics, how fast and efficient the grinder is, how easy it is to change grinf settings, and how easy it is to clean the thing. If it takes me 45-60 seconds to grind the coffee with a hand grinder, I'll use it. If it's going to take around two minutes, I'll probably go back to using an electric motorized machine. The 1Zpresso seems to have the Comandanted beaten on the factors where I can see a difference.

I agree that we can’t judge a grinder just on one shot. Even 10 would not be enough and I am not sure if I would survive that many in one go. Often what I say at the end is based not just on 1 test but on my overall experience using this equipment.
Yes, K Ultra is much easier to use on a daily basis. Recently I got C60 and will compare it with Ultra soon.

What about J Max vs K ultra for espresso, which is better?

    • @mycoffeeshow111
      @mycoffeeshow111  Před 2 měsíci

I had J Max some time ago and the shots were really tasty and it was very fast. The downside was that it was very hard to actually grind on it. So much so that I haven’t used it much.

M still confused which one to choose currently m using kingrinder k2 and thinking to upgrade in two options
    1) keeping kingrinder and buy c40 mk4 only for pour overs and will use kingrinder for espresso (18um per click settings )
    2) will sale kingrinder and will buy all in one 1zpresso K ultra for both pour overs and espresso/cappuccino
Kindly guide me as m getting both C40 and K ultra at same price

Sure. I would go for K Ultra for both espresso and pour overs. Usability, taste and overall experience with it is great. If you are looking for cheaper alternative you can consider K6. I have a video comparing both. czcams.com/video/zgOmc5ZpvGE/video.htmlsi=2cwjKYGWiCxXUkGW

I have a c40 and I prefer the timemore. Comandante is overpriced and lives off it's name. I bought the MK4 at MICE2023 and the timemore last year. Made over 50 brews and the acidity is better from the timemore I'll get the ultra when i have the money.

I have done C40 vs Timemore some time ago. You are right, if acidity is your priority Timemore will be better. C40 usually brings up more sweetness and complexity. Ultra should be perfect for you.
