terrible final but that Red Star team had some talent - pretty much all of them had top careers- Yugoslavia definitely would have won a major tournament if it hadn't broke up

Very few can match ferocity, loyalty and organization of Red Star fans. One who has not seen it, cannot fully comprehend and believe it. I only wish if there was fewer hooligans among them, but unfortunately that is common problem in soccer nowadays.
These Eastern European teams like Steaua and Red Star have been driven out of the competition by UEFA's new format and rules.

@@youngcitybandit For them its not about making it fair. Its about making money. Globalisation of football and heavy comercialization of UCL coresponds with the end of the Cold War.
Yeah European politics also ruined Yugoslavia which broke it up.....then.....the European Union was formed right away!

@supahdupahguy81 In Yugoslavia at the time (and maybe still now) they settled domestic draws in the league with penalties, so Red Star abandoned their usual flamboyant approach for a more pragmatic, defensive game knowing they held a major advantage over their opponents regarding spot-kicks.

@supahdupahguy81 But the same seems to be true of about eight or nine cup finals out of every 10 sadly. Maybe the European finals should be two-legged home and away affairs too, like it is in the FA Youth Cup.

Red Star had an amazing team and Marseille were no slouches themselves at the time but they delivered one of the worst games of football I've had the misfortune to watch
Milan was such a bitch to back out against Marseille while being held the greatest team at the time. They were the superior team but probably lost spirit after being surprised by a French team out of nowhere.
