  • Here is a demonstration of the sound and functionality of the delay section of the Dreadbox Hypnosis time effects processor.
    The sounds being processed are coming from the Roland Alpha Juno 1.
    The theme was created using the Korg Triton LE for drums and the Roland Alpha Juno 1 for all other sounds. All tracks were processed using the Hypnosis.

    Big atmosphere for such a little box!

    If this had a tap tempo for the delay time, it would already be in my house. How could they leave this out?

    Great FX box!
    Playing the knobs looks like real fun with the delay ;-)

    Get over the bypass thing! When the light is on, the box is on : )

    To me the different modes sound like these different delay types:
    1 - digital delay (it sounds the cleanest)
    2 - analog delay (emulation ofcourse, but it has that analog sound to it)
    3 - Tape delay emulation (because that's usually the third option with multimode delays ;) )

    More resonance on the band pass filter for mode 2 mode 3 feels like less pronounced peaking of the filter and maybe the peak moved a little lower to the low mids?

  • @VacancyOfDisco
    @VacancyOfDisco Před 5 lety +1

    Sounds like mode 2 might have a lowpass filter and mode 3 might have a bandpass filter. All sounds great though!

    I have the Hypnosis for more than half a year. The delay sounds nice, but is hardly usable in musical context due to inability to sync it or tap the tempo.

    • @automaticgainsay
      @automaticgainsay  Před 4 lety +3

      You know, people were able to use delay expressively and effectively for many years before it could be synced. Your echoes don’t need to be in time!

    • @HazeAnderson
      @HazeAnderson Před 4 lety

      When your drummer isn't very tight the immediate solution is to turn the drums down in the mix. When you delay isn't synchronized to a clock the immediate solution is to turn the feedback down.

    Not sure why there's not an LFO and/or an A/D envelope to modulate the delay time. If turning a knob sounds good, there should be a way to automate it. Hopefully the pre-delay modulation on the reverb makes that non-feature redundant.

    • @automaticgainsay
      @automaticgainsay  Před 5 lety +3

      How about if your knob turn happens because you are turning the knob? :)

    Great video series Marc. Loving the Hypnosis. Any chance it can go 100% wet? Sounded closer to 50% to me. Perhaps there's a switch on the back or setting somewhere that can kill the dry signal?

    So do the saves only save the buttons or the knobs also? Would love to save everything especially thinking about recording & playing live with the timing sounding right.

    Forgive me I’m a newbie, let me make sure I got this straight, you activate the delay by pressing the delay button? How many times must I press this button? What is the best finger to use when pressing the button any given number of times?

    Well, I have most of it in different boxes, mostly by TC from their Nova Series. And I can´t see no reason why to change it.

      @automaticgainsay  Před 5 lety +4

      That's fair. If you're happy with the effects you have, why would you buy more? While I'm not familiar with TC products, I have a sneaking suspicion that this device is different and might merit investigation, though.

    • @automaticgainsay
      @automaticgainsay  Před 5 lety +3

      I think you're missing the point. If you want MIDI sync, you've got ONE BAZILLION effects units, hardware and software, to choose from.

    • @mountainmovin
      @mountainmovin Před 5 lety +4

      Hence my succinct (nope). Look, if you are getting paid to pitch a product on one of the largest public forums in the world and don’t expect to receive negative feedback than I don’t know what to say. On a 500 dollar multi fx box geared apparently for synths and it doesn’t include a midi input of some sort in 2019 I find that a glaring omission. I for one like the presentation and I actually sub to your channel and I enjoy your enthusiasm and delivery. As a business owner myself I’m glad to get feedback and sometimes I need to hear the negatives as well. Keep on keepin on.

    • @automaticgainsay
      @automaticgainsay  Před 5 lety +3

      Well, first... I'm not getting paid to do this. This is a thing I do because I enjoy it. Second... Automatic Gainsay started in 2006... I have a pretty good sense of what happens on CZcams. Third... you might be surprised to find that there really isn't a lot of negative feedback on Automatic Gainsay. Either I'm very lucky, or there really isn't need for it. I invite constructive criticism of my videos, and certainly invite any perspective regarding the gear... on average.
      But here's the thing: Automatic Gainsay is primarily a vintage analog synth channel. I also demonstrate modern analog synths... but tend to stick to modern analog in the style of vintage analog. The Hypnosis is not just some effects processor. If you want an effects processor, you have a bazillion trillion options. The now-vintage Yamaha SPX-90 I own from about 1987 or so has MIDI implementation. Of course MIDI implementation is useful in a general effects processor. But that isn't the purpose of THIS effects processor. This is a vintage-styled analog effects processor. You don't buy it for specs, you buy it for gorgeous vintage tone and a vintage experience.
      Lastly... come on, buddy... do it the old-fashioned way and time it by ear! It's the only way you can recreate delay of the past! :D

    • @mountainmovin
      @mountainmovin Před 5 lety +3

      Sorry for assuming you were getting paid for this I just know the product hasn’t been released in stores yet which I assumed you were sent one for evaluation . That assumption and being seemingly defensive of an innocuous post simply stating no purchase due to no midi. I didn’t mean to come off as condescending though I may have written it that way. Anyway life is much too fleeting for excess negativity and that’s where I’ll leave it and I bid you a good day sir.
