That was really enjoyable to watch and I really like the way you express your thoughts about Hypnosis. There seem to be a few drawbacks comparing to the original one as a standalone fx unit and some inconveniences for all you eurorack enthusiasts but it definitely sounds lovely in your setup and it gave another dimension to all the synths you tried it on, so I guess it can be an interesting addition to any setup. cheers!
I think ditching the stereo was the biggest mistake (leaving it fully stereo while it being little more expensive would be easily understandable). Also when pushing it into eurorack world, it is quite bad decision to not allow use various parts separately, 100% agree with you. All the best, thanks for review!
Got mine yesterday. I absolutly in love with it! It has a very distinctive own character, which really shines in the ocean of effects units. No, ofc its not the solution for someone who is looking for a swiss army knife multi effect, but this is a effect with character, time travel into the 80s.
I carefully crammed a spring tank in my moog skiff, it was a really tight fit and I had to use the tiny blue plastic tank from accutronics (super cheap, under $20 for the tank). Doepfer has a ready to go tank+module that will fit in a deep case which I prefer.
I can't solder to save my life, so I was a bit disappointed to see the reissue was a DIY kit. Thankfully it appears to be something I can actually manage,
I just got my unit today. It took 20 minutes to assemble and sounds wondrous on my Moog DFAM & Poly D. I will say I feel this device is more so geared for drum sounds or percussive elements within a mix. The Chorus is very Metallic though despite this I like how it sounds with my drum machines. No regrets at all with this purchase. However I feel one should use it as a Send // Returns Effect, and you'll be in Lo-Fi Spring Heaven, or Hell. To which ever you prefer....
This is certainly a bit of a perplexing unit, when it was announced I was very excited, but the limitations do seem to make it a bit more niche than it might have first seemed. That being said, I think if you look at it as just a spring reverb unit with some extra features, the value proposition starts to make some sense. Going all mono certainly limits its appeal to synth players, but I imagine Dreadbox decided that the cost of making it stereo would have priced it too high to sell? Also making individual modules patchable would have made a lot of sense from a eurorack perspective, but to make each module also work for instrument or line levels, each one would then need an input/output stage too which again maybe multiplied the price and complicated the panel, which might have been a no go to keep its potential as a standalone unit for instruments and synths too? I'm still on the fence, as a non eurorack user, the USB power is also off-putting to me because of the potential for ground loops, I would love if it came with an adapter for 9v "boss" type barrel plugs since I already own some good, high power isolated power supplies, as I suspect most other people interested in standalone effects boxes also do? Either way, while this might be far from a perfect multi-fx unit for everyone and something of a different beast to the original namesake, it's still cool to see Dreadbox making weird and unique boxes for reasonable affordable prices. I might still grab one while the run of kits is available.
I just get mine and it sound so retro. If you use the case come with, make sure the power board dont short circuit with the case. I use the LFO to patch pwm of my Mavis very useful. Only down side is you cant use them separately. I use it as my main reverb I need to turn off other effect... I think it is the cheapest spring tank in the market, otherwise GameChangerAudio Light Pedal may be the easiest to get.
Love the sound of the spring, so much better than any digital version I've currently got. Can I ask a personal question and ask did you pay import tax on top of shipping from Greece and if so how much, (making assumption you're based in UK)?
The kit is now available at Thonk, i know your comment is a couple weeks old but maybe that idea of getting it for 210 no import messing around might appeal to you@@treeface5000
Did Robin say "Ereebus?" Edit: Absolutely superb sounds mate. Regarding the chorus: I've never been convinced by a mono chorus. Stereo has a lot do with the magic.

Your attempts to describe the chorus make you sound as though you're on the radio show Just a Minute. Well done

Just buy 2??

I agree with you on the wonders of the spring reverb so much!
The Decard sounds absolutely Beautiful !
Great, excellent and brilliant…I love the sounds it produces👌🎧✨🤍💫
Came to listen to hypnosis but I realized its the Erebus that i need 😂

I think the chorus may be modelled on the Roland RE301 Chorus Echo Robin. When I had my 301, I wasn't particularly bowled over by the chorus circuit 😮

Yes it was fifty something quid for the duty plus handling
@@MoltenMusicTech Ooof! That's hefty! Might have to reconsider :-(
Bloomin' Brexit! 🤬

Thank you your video really helped me. Have you noticed the lfo is audible especially at high rate speed ?
Also bought it, little bit suprised that I didnt need to solder anything!
Kinda want this :)
Great video. I think you are right though - it all sounds pretty good, but the chorus/ flange isn't the most exciting example of the effect.
What keyboard and case are you using at 32 mins in the section "first fumblings" ??
It’s the NiftyKeys from Cre8audio

Is that wrong? My grasp of pronounciation is legendary.
Don't ever change.
Oh, I didn't realise their kits didn’t require soldering. I need a lot of practice before I attempt soldering a pricey module. Colour me intrigued.
Most their kits do require soldering. This is the only one I know doesn't.
The chorus/flanger was definitely more obvious with the guitar. Does the active input act as toggles that latch or do they need gates?
Sorry, I don't understand what you're asking?
@@MoltenMusicTech the cv inputs for the active buttons. Do they latch on with a trigger or do they stay active whilst a voltage input is high?
It flips on a gate or trigger, so they latch.
