We just wanted to briefly answer a few questions from the comments about this truck and its equipment. In spite of its appearance, this is a very capable and highly productive work truck. While it may not be popular for a lot of experienced drivers, the fact of the matter is an automatic transmission makes sense in this job market. Available driver pools are generally much younger and less experienced these days. So it's important to make the truck as easy to drive and safe as possible if you operate a fleet. The R/S-Godwin hybrid steel/aluminum dump body is the only of its kind. It offers the light weight and appearance of an all aluminum dump, but with the added longevity and durability of an AR steel floor and front. If this body is used for what it's meant for, it will last at least twice as long as an all aluminum bed. Lower maintenance, and no regular floor plating. It'll also dump cleaner and faster with no 'washboarding' of the floor. The hydraulic speed on this truck is turned town, but it's capable of dumping nearly twice as fast as an industry standard dump while using less oil and hose burst protection. Yes, it can be made to dump higher if needed. The hydraulic touch pad in the cab is a new Allied Mobil Systems 'Evolution' control. The system is meant to protect the truck and public infrastructure from inexperienced drivers. It will automatically lower the body, disengage the PTO, and latch the tailgate if the driver forgets. It can also help prevent rollovers. All those settings are fully customizable. This system can also track driver performances, percentage of maximum load hauled, number of loads, miles driven, etc. So its also designed to make more money. It usually mounts to the air ride seat so the drive isn't chasing the controller in bumps. The number of axles and the spacing thereof is dictated by individual state laws and local bridge requirements. This particular truck is specifically built to maximize capabilities in North Carolina. The access door on the front of the body is usually on the driver side (passenger side on this truck) to allow easier access inside the body without climbing over the side. It's accessible using the behind the cab platform which is standard on this style of dump body form Godwin. The sloped front of the body allows for improved blind spot visibility, hydraulic component access for maintenance, behind cab storage and toolboxes, WITHOUT sacrificing load capacity or axle load distribution. The slope simply replaces the old dog box. The highlift gate works as a normal tailgate, or lifts with air cylinders for bulky loads like stumps. The geometry of the rear of the truck allows for asphalt use without the need for a rear asphalt lip. This truck is owned and operated by Privette Transport Inc out of Wendell, NC. ALL of his equipment is this well kept. He is very particular about his equipment and operation. Best of all, he's a GREAT guy! Special thanks to Chris for sharing!
As someone that's drove dumps for 20 years and owned, the justification for having an automatic absolutely baffles my mind. Putting an inexperienced younger driver in a truck of that stature (length, turning radius, ect, would not be something I would do as an owner, the transmission would be the last of my worries vs every other aspect of that truck. The fact of the matter is an automatic is more expensive and more prone to trouble than any manual, and if you can't find a driver that properly operate a manual transmission, I damn sure wouldn't trust them to operate a truck of this caliber. But I'm sure my 20 years of experience in even longer trucks with more axles and with a hell of a record of taking care of equipment doesn't qualify me to say this explanation and justification is moronic. I'll be damned if I would have a young and inexperienced driver in a truck like that.
@@cummins31 unfortunately the schools for the most part don't teach manual anymore.. be as it may I've driven both and the Automatics are not too bad but I like the manual since I'm using an 18speed doing heavy haul out here in southern Oregon

It is a beauty and it's huge! Can carry a load or two with that. At first I wondered if John had gotten a new truck. Just like two kids blowing the horn! Thanks for sharing his joy with us all. It's contagious!
I drive dump trucks for a living and this is one of the nicest I've seen. Peterbilt will style have a nice truck with the new style that's made to look like old school but want nothing be able to take the place of these beauty's. Congratulations on the very very nice ride.
While we operate different trucks in Europe, it is nice to see this chap so proud of this new truck. When he lifted the body I liked the front mounted hydraulic ram and the fact he didn't rev the nuts off the pump. Just let the hydraulics do their job. I don't know if these use swash plate or gear pumps. I'd just be worried about that beautiful body and loader operators. Well done that man, nice job.
I’ve been watching your videos for a couple years now. Now I have a 2-1/2 year old son and he watches them with me. He loves your videos! Just want to say thank you for letting us watch and being part of the journey. Watching your videos brings so much excitement and joy to my son. Thank you again. Stay strong and be safe 🤙🏼🇺🇸
I thought Uncle John had a really nice truck. That truck is way beyond nice. Never would have guessed that Wendell would have all that nice equipment and ponds.
That is a beautiful truck! I sold trucks for nearly 45 years in the Greensboro area, selling Freightliner the last 31 years. They had the 122SD, which was an old school truck like the Pete, but I hate to admit, the Petes have always looked the best to me overall. Good luck, drive safe, and make a lot of money with this beauty!
Whilst a thing of beauty to look at it wouldn't hold a candle to a European tipper to drive every day European tippers far superior to drive and operate
Absolutely gorgeous. I have been to a few truck shows and this might be the finest dump i have seen. When i got the notification about another truck i thought that maybe you had bite the bullet and purchased another dump. I had mentioned in a comment about you needing another one to eliminate that down time waiting for the truck to dump. Especially when you have those 500 load jobs. Thanks for another great video brother and allowing us to see this beauty.

Well...2023 is not the last year of the 389...I just got in a 2024 389... With the same Cummins motor, same HP...I love my truck! I got about 17,600 on it now tho...
