It's a commercial. People do realize these are actors. People take things wayyy too seriously. It's getting to the point where you can't do anything without offending someone. Cmon people, if you have to criticise these ads, you really need a life
The problem with this ad ( we actually discussed this in my marketing class today) is that it insinuates that the whole black lives matter movement could be simply fixed by Kendall Jenner ( a white woman) giving a police officer a Pepsi. The black lives matter movement is an influential and progressive time in our history . This ad invalidates that in a way. Coco cola did a similar ad to this in 1971, after the civil rights movement took place , look it up , it's done in a classier and more respectful manner .
Well, that would make it perfect in marketing! That's the whole idea - get "this" and then "that" might happen. People with brains know that a Pepsi is not going to save the world. 95% of "marketing" is attempting to sell people stuff they don't need (often to their detriment) - so it to call something in marketing a "problem" is strange. Maybe the best marketing is "here is the iphone 7. You don't need it. It doesn't do anything better than your 6s and if you buy one you will be in debt". Ask your marketing class about that one....the truth!
I'm glad they pulled that awful commercial down. And kendall you should be ashamed. You're 21 years old and you want to say you didn't know how the commercial was gonna look after filming? You signed a contract !!! You accepted the endorsement deal !!! You and Pepsi exploited and monetized the struggles and grievances of protesters in this nation. You want to act like you're helping the protest but you and Pepsi have NEVER tweeted or posted on any other social media outlet about being for the cause. So it takes money and exploitation to "join the conversation" right? Shame on you.
You know, maybe the world would be a better place if we bought our opponents a drink and tried to "join the conversation" instead of spewing hate at each other?
The ad worked. This was a genius move by Pepsi . They knew exactly what they were doing...They focused and got the attention of their "Brain dead sugary audience", and the ravenous media. Anyone talking about Coke?
There wasn't anything distasteful about the ad. I think Kendall Jenner would obviously agree with the people who are freaking ouy because she would be too scared to stand up and defend the ad
The problem is that pepsi AND Kendall Jenner is profiting off dead people. The fact that you can't stand up to a policeman without getting killed if you are a POC. The ad is just trash
The problem is that Liberals are pissed because they think that Pepsi is trivializing and exploiting the SJW movement. Conservatives are pissed because they think Pepsi is endorsing the SJW movement. Both sides are stupid. Just like this Ad.
@dedknedy This is the only correct answer. I have seen SJW pissed about this for said reason and Conservatives pissed for the opposite reason , lmao!. People really need to stop being so sensitive.
OK I get it now. I couldn't figure out why there was so much animosity about the commercial, now I get it. It showed protestors not swearing, burning property, breaking into stores and stealing, attacking and beating people with a different point of view. I t made them look like decent people, no wonder they were offended.
People call it disrespectful because a protest isn't really like this. But at first view, I didn't see a protest. There are many events where police officers are standing in a wall / barrier formation.
I found it ridiculously cringey and stupid but not one bit offensive so why are people so mad about an advert? It was just dumb and guess what alot of adverts are but no one gets mad about the rest.
Lisa Hope because alot of ads dont trivialize important social issues. stop pretending that it was not insensitive. i would like to see your reaction if kendal jenner gave a pepsi to a cancer patient when their hair was falling out from chemo in an ad.
I saw absolutely nothing wrong with the commercial and actually the most dignified thing that one of the Kardashians ever did. I cannot believe what the world is coming to when cry babies get offended by a commercial based on being United together
It's funny how ,mostly everyone who's saying people are sensitive have no clue. If Kendall was black or muslim would Pepsi put her as the main character. Not at all.
I'm soooooo glad I'm not a commercial writer. If I wrote, "Have a nice day", someone might take offense and their hate would go viral. It would baffle me how I offended anyone, and I'd have to hire consultants to tell me about my hidden offensive meaning. If I defended myself, I'd be charged with not understanding.
Pepsi had NOT pulled the commercial from Canadian networks and I seen it myself on one of the major networks (CTV) yesterday during prime time.. Only for the USA market is where it has been pulled it would seem..
I am in the same situation like all others who can't get an answer of this ad cause I have tried to understand many times what was wrong with this ad but I can't get an answer for myself. honestly people are so jealous nowadays that they see everything bad. we have thing to do more than this ad. let Kendal enjoy her life please. as for me she didn't offend anybody. by the way, she is the one who has been offended with people's backlash. Please people we have to ignore thing that doesn't make sens and come together to lift each other instead of embarrass each other. I am a black girl and I hate racial issue. racial issue will never solve a problem so we have to work hard by getting a better life. Please it's time for us to stop driving ourselves with angers. love is beyond everything.
this ad..well its ridiculous and having that girl who never even considered higher education even pretending she understands the political climate is just an insult. like she would ever join a protest.
Isn't the controversy because it's a rip-off of a music video that featured Rosaria Dawson? read it is almost identical to the music video - which means this violated copyright and ownership laws of the music video.
For those of you who don't understand why the commercial is bad and everybody is mad. There are so many people out there who have been killed and beaten for protesting. And for this commercial to say all they needed to do was give the officers a Pepsi is rude to so many iconic protesters…like Martin Luther King. And the bullshit about Kendall Jenner not knowing what the commercials was about is ridiculous. she was proud of it she saw it she just didn't think anybody would react badly to it. So I'm blaming Pepsi and Kendall Jenner because she wasn't thinking about what this meant to others she was just trying to get a check. And she's a grown adult if she can go out at night and party then she can make decisions like what's right.
i understand why people are mad. They're capitalizing on protests like Blacklivesmatter. What's stupid is that they're apologizing to Kendall Jenner as if she didn't know what she was doing.
I honestly thought it was fine people are so sensitive offended by everything chill the fuck out we have worse things going on than a Jenner Pepsi commercial
msceddi chika yeah defending this video for having a power message all races together fighting for the same thing defending it from sensitive morons like you
People are way too sensitive. This is just beyond stupid! There is *NOTHING* wrong with the commercial. I'm not a fan of either Kendall or Pepsi, but when I saw this I just rolled my eyes.. I just don't understand how this could offend anyone...!!!? There is nothing in the ad that is " *bad* "... If this offended so many people.. can you imagine what would have happened if the cop was black?!?!?!
The problem is that pepsi AND Kendall Jenner is profiting off dead people. The fact that you can't stand up to a policeman without getting killed if you are a POC.
???? seriously you don't understand why pepsi did this? let me explain: since President Trump's now in office, the geniuses at pepsi decided to pander to loser sjw's thinking 95% of the nation thinks as they do...using every single cliche under the sun in that one asinine commercial... backlash happens....commercial pulled, much like the election, the loons at pepsi didn't see it coming............and kendall jenner's too stupid to never even touch this subject....there you go
Man What!! What is the Problem.. If anything there's nothing but positive vibes in this commercial .. About Love and not Hate...and Ppl coming together as one..
They only missed the mark because it got hate... if it was a hit, they wouldn't have pulled it.... How can a shit ton of people come up with such a D-bag idea? A huge corporation....all those people.... and this is their best. ROTFL. I'm sure everyone including Kendall was proud of it until the masses put out the non-stop memes about it.
So you can just hand a cop a Pepsi & all the problems in the world will go away? I think part of the reason people are mad is because a Kardashian is in the commercial.
Why use a kardashclone to promote unity when they're brand and name promotes the complete opposite - sex and silicon. So disappointed - choose a more positive role model who lives their life promoting unity and peace - not a kardashiclone
It was meant to be maybe an anti Trump "teach the whole world to sing" circa '17. But If someone in the ad office actually tried GOING to a protest, this would of gone a lot better, or wouldn't of even got to this point.
Wow what was wrong with the as. I thought of it as something like breaking barriers through something common "Pepsi". People complain about everything. If she threw the Pepsi in his face that would've been something else but she stepped out of the crowd and handed it to him ( a multicultural crowd at that) and everyone celebrated. She a celebrity taking off her accessories on joining a local crowd. Some people don't understand creativity. They wouldn't unless she's wrapped in a sheet with the Pepsi next to her... smh
when I saw more about this bullshit than the gas bombs in Syria my point is proven. people are dying, children and babies for christ sakes... but a pepsi commercial takes priority. your generation is sad. #stopmakingstupidpeoplefamous #nohopeforhumanity #itsliketalkingtoawall #youwontunderstand
Psh why bashing people who didn't like the commercial. They didn't like it so what? And you have to tell them to shut the computer and do better things? Like you are doing much better things while bashing others opinions.
she didn't stop the anything what in the world! she actually choose to be free and join THEM. that's trapping in a way subject to society kind of controlling in a way on their lives.... she didn't deserve all that but goes to show when your the face of something that isn't 100 yours! tough business
People get triggered wayyyyy too easy nowadays. There is literally nothing wrong with this commercial. Oh wait... Maybe I didn't stare at it hard enough. 😑
WOW are you kidding? It's like she's the one who had the idea of the commercial she's just a model it's not her fault this generation is soo damn annoying
What goes down the drain besides water> PEPSI stock.
Neither Kendall Jenner nor any Kardashians should be using the defense of "I thought it would be tasteful"
It's a commercial. People do realize these are actors. People take things wayyy too seriously. It's getting to the point where you can't do anything without offending someone. Cmon people, if you have to criticise these ads, you really need a life

Gior thanks for the ur explanation.. I have been seeking insight into why it was deemed offensive..
Ann smith clearly it didn't work in terms of "marketing" because it greatly offended people and the ad got pulled 😒
G U couldn't have said it any better.
You know, maybe the world would be a better place if we bought our opponents a drink and tried to "join the conversation" instead of spewing hate at each other?
Someone should seriously try to give a cop a Pepsi and record it.
Ok so I saw this twice and I still didn't find the controversial thing they mentioned.
making the ad and then pulling it was the ad, its just a marketing scheme to get into the news and make everyone aware about pepsi
It's going take more than just handing a Pepsi to a cop to ease the tension.
The ad worked. This was a genius move by Pepsi . They knew exactly what they were doing...They focused and got the attention of their "Brain dead sugary audience", and the ravenous media. Anyone talking about Coke?
the police should make a video complimenting the official teargas of the department
I love it when Entertainment Tonight tries to pretend to do news. It's like watching
Kittens playing with explosives.
I don't see anything wrong w it
what's the song name
Entertainment Tonight is still on? For decades it was on in Los Angeles at 7 PM but it is nowhere to be found now.
There wasn't anything distasteful about the ad. I think Kendall Jenner would obviously agree with the people who are freaking ouy because she would be too scared to stand up and defend the ad
About she trusted pepsi LOL, she saw quick money and decided to go for it.
Why should Pepsi apologize to Kendall when she's the one whom agreed to do it???
Let me see if I can understand why this ad was pulled...........................nope.
I really didn't find a problem with it!!!
Did I miss something??? What's the problem?????
its ..uuuh....too cheesy ?
The problem is that pepsi AND Kendall Jenner is profiting off dead people. The fact that you can't stand up to a policeman without getting killed if you are a POC. The ad is just trash
The problem is that Liberals are pissed because they think that Pepsi is trivializing and exploiting the SJW movement. Conservatives are pissed because they think Pepsi is endorsing the SJW movement. Both sides are stupid. Just like this Ad.
watch pewdipies video on this lol
@dedknedy This is the only correct answer. I have seen SJW pissed about this for said reason and Conservatives pissed for the opposite reason , lmao!. People really need to stop being so sensitive.
what the hell is the problem?
OK I get it now. I couldn't figure out why there was so much animosity
about the commercial, now I get it. It showed protestors not swearing,
burning property, breaking into stores and stealing, attacking and
beating people with a different point of view. I t made them look like
decent people, no wonder they were offended.
People call it disrespectful because a protest isn't really like this. But at first view, I didn't see a protest. There are many events where police officers are standing in a wall / barrier formation.
Was that all fuck sake, I'm offended that people got offended.
She gave a police officer a can of Pepsi
I don't get this and im a POC and I'm not offended by this commercial whatsoever. I guess there is a lot of things that can trigger a lot of people
But she handed a cop a Pepsi in the context of a protest. How do you think that's going to turn into something else?
I found it ridiculously cringey and stupid but not one bit offensive so why are people so mad about an advert? It was just dumb and guess what alot of adverts are but no one gets mad about the rest.
Lisa Hope because alot of ads dont trivialize important social issues. stop pretending that it was not insensitive. i would like to see your reaction if kendal jenner gave a pepsi to a cancer patient when their hair was falling out from chemo in an ad.
msceddi chika a cancer patient is no way near the same as a police officer so that was pretty much unvalid.
I saw absolutely nothing wrong with the commercial and actually the most dignified thing that one of the Kardashians ever did. I cannot believe what the world is coming to when cry babies get offended by a commercial based on being United together
Watched the AD heard the media BS, read the comments and still can't see what the hell is up with it.............Must be an American thing.
If people had enough common sense, then they would know why Pepsi shouldn't have put this out there.
Kendall didn't know an ad for soda would be distasteful??
heaven fucking forbid anyone do anything nice for a police officer.
I don't get it
It's funny how ,mostly everyone who's saying people are sensitive have no clue. If Kendall was black or muslim would Pepsi put her as the main character. Not at all.
you all get offended so easily
I can't believe she blamed pepsi like she saw the commercial she knew what it was about
that add if only in philippines..
its like people power..
People talk about it... successful ad.
I'm not understanding the problem. She gave a police officer a Pepsi? What's the big deal?
I don't undersrand what backlash they're talking about?
I thought it was cheesy, but a cute kind. It reminds me a bit of the Coke commercial of the 70s
Thank you Pepsi for pulling that commercial...
I'm soooooo glad I'm not a commercial writer.
If I wrote, "Have a nice day", someone might take offense and their hate would go viral. It would baffle me how I offended anyone, and I'd have to hire consultants to tell me about my hidden offensive meaning. If I defended myself, I'd be charged with not understanding.
im still confessed
Pepsi had NOT pulled the commercial from Canadian networks and I seen it myself on one of the major networks (CTV) yesterday during prime time.. Only for the USA market is where it has been pulled it would seem..

this ad..well its ridiculous and having that girl who never even considered higher education even pretending she understands the political climate is just an insult. like she would ever join a protest.
There was nothing wrong with the commercial at all. People always have to bitch and complain about anything just to stir up shit.
I wouldn't have apologized
AMERICA IS TOO SENSITIVE....I SAW NOTHING WRONG WITH THE COMMERCIAL....SHEESHKABOB!
Omg she was nice to a legal citizen cop ..how dare she
life's tougher
I'm not against Kendall but I think she knew the concept beforehand. I don't think models will start shooting without knowing anything. #justsaying
Isn't the controversy because it's a rip-off of a music video that featured Rosaria Dawson? read it is almost identical to the music video - which means this violated copyright and ownership laws of the music video.
Pepsi have pulled the commercial but now the commercial has gone viral and Pepsi don't have to pay for air time anymore...
I see nothing wrong with this Pepsi ad. Why do people have to make everything a problem
This may of been poorly done, but let's be honest people just love hating the Kardashians/Jenners. Petty!
Wow! Another reason why I only watch about 5 hours of tv a month! And those are taped so I can skip through the commercials!
Pepsi - cola did not miss the mark since this is not tone def *face palm*
This is nothing but good for Kendall, possibly even deliberately so.
For those of you who don't understand why the commercial is bad and everybody is mad. There are so many people out there who have been killed and beaten for protesting. And for this commercial to say all they needed to do was give the officers a Pepsi is rude to so many iconic protesters…like Martin Luther King. i honestly/ genuinely don't see anything wrong with this ad.(please explain to me). tbh people look to deep into the simplest things
i understand why people are mad. They're capitalizing on protests like Blacklivesmatter. What's stupid is that they're apologizing to Kendall Jenner as if she didn't know what she was doing.
Pepsi took a serious issue to sell soda
I honestly thought it was fine people are so sensitive offended by everything chill the fuck out we have worse things going on than a Jenner Pepsi commercial
Alex Flores yet you're here...
msceddi chika yeah defending this video for having a power message all races together fighting for the same thing defending it from sensitive morons like you
You seem to be very sensitive yourself since you got so angry over a comment you had to call him/her a moron. Can't keep it civilized lol
Alex Flores Yes
if we're getting triggerd by everything nowaday. I'm triggerd by the number 50 ,the letter z and the word moist, what dumb shirt triggers you?
People are way too sensitive. This is just beyond stupid! There is *NOTHING* wrong with the commercial. I'm not a fan of either Kendall or Pepsi, but when I saw this I just rolled my eyes.. Why apologize to Jenner? She wanted to do it, gladly took the money. Did she give the MONEY BACK?
Pepsi apologizes to Kendall Jenner, but continues to knowingly poison us without regard. Nice.
OMG! People who watch ET know this was a work of art from a true genius! Like, cmon. -- Let's boycott the mall and like do something. Ugh!
What was wrong with the commercial?
alainahicks1 yoh! You & i seem to be the only ones confused like I'm seriously trying to figure out what was wrong with the commercial😂😂😂
+Purpleninja yeah like wtf I'm confused as hell 🤔🤔😂. What was wrong with it
The problem is that pepsi AND Kendall Jenner is profiting off dead people. The fact that you can't stand up to a policeman without getting killed if you are a POC.

backlash happens....commercial pulled, much like the election, the loons at pepsi didn't see it coming............and kendall jenner's too stupid to never even touch this subject....there you go
BlacKnightRising Most excellent answer. :)
She didn't know the idea sucked, she was the actrice in this scenario lol models can't think all right.
Man What!! What is the Problem.. If anything there's nothing but positive vibes in this commercial .. About Love and not Hate...and Ppl coming together as one..
we are talking!!! talk is good!!
They only missed the mark because it got hate... if it was a hit, they wouldn't have pulled it.... How can a shit ton of people come up with such a D-bag idea? isnt it jus like shes handing an olive branch?? flowers in the guns kinda thing??
Indian Pepsi CEO may given this idea
What is the big deal?
Her defense " I didn't read the script" ok so you just heard Multicultural and cool commercial for 4 Million bucks. And that BRAT said All in.
It was meant to be maybe an anti Trump "teach the whole world to sing" circa '17. But If someone in the ad office actually tried GOING to a protest, this would of gone a lot better, or wouldn't of even got to this point.
What was wrong
CloudFly99 people think that its involving the political issue's that has been happening specially with "black lifes matter" exc
That girl couldn't be a model is the first problem- or wow models have seriously declined and secondly, that is a truly dumb commercial.
Hmmmmmm...I'm a Black guy watching it...but i must have watched the wrong Ad because i didn't see anything wrong...i'm confused...
Why does she care, she still got paid
Wow what was wrong with the as. I thought of it as something like breaking barriers through something common "Pepsi". People complain about everything. If she threw the Pepsi in his face that would've been something else but she stepped out of the crowd and handed it to him ( a multicultural crowd at that) and everyone celebrated. No big deal.
it honestly amazes me what outrages people these days....
it really shouldn't amaze you. Perhaps if you were more aware of the World around you and less groomed by corporations.
when I saw more about this bullshit than the gas bombs in Syria my point is proven. people are dying, children and babies for christ sakes... but a pepsi commercial takes priority. your generation is sad. #stopmakingstupidpeoplefamous #nohopeforhumanity #itsliketalkingtoawall #youwontunderstand
I'm positive is because I have not seen it but I really don't get the problem, maybe if I actually saw it, it would have clicked for me.
Storm in a tea cup.
Psh why bashing people who didn't like the commercial. They didn't like it so what? And you have to tell them to shut the computer and do better things? Like you are doing much better things while bashing others opinions.
It should have been Trump, not Kendell
she didn't stop the anything what in the world! she actually choose to be free and join THEM. that's trapping in a way subject to society kind of controlling in a way on their lives.... she didn't deserve all that but goes to show when your the face of something that isn't 100 yours! tough business

WOW are you kidding? It's like she's the one who had the idea of the commercial she's just a model it's not her fault this generation is soo damn annoying
