Myanmar's military junta recaptured the town of Myawaddy today. Myawaddy is a crucial trade hub that lies at the Myanmar-Thailand border. The town was captured by anti-junta forces on April 10. Myanmar's military launched a counteroffensive to retake Myawaddy, and succeeded after days of fighting. The resistance group known as the Karen National Liberation Army has retreated, but it says it will return. Meanwhile, a different group captured a junta outpost in northern Myanmar, near the Hpakant Township. So who is winning the civil war in Myanmar, the junta or the resistance? Who are the various groups fighting the military, and what happens to them if Myanmar's junta wins? Palki Sharma tells you.

In fact Myawaddy still has Myanmar soldiers the 275th Regiment and KNA(Border Guard Force) that works for the Myanmar Military. But the resistance's propaganda spun out of control and the world'd media followed it. Again, Myawaddy was never under the rebels, only outskirts

Myanmar military is not winning in Thai-Myanmar border town..Myawaddy is very complicated place..There are several arm groups in Myawaddy.Most of them fighting Myanmar army but some groups remain neutrality.It’s long story to explain.In short KNLA (Karen ethnic arms organisation) and PDF withdraw temporarily to sort out differences between KNLA+PDF and BGF(border guards)which used to be under Myanmar military control & deeply involved in human trafficking,gambling,kidnapping,money laundering…..so on.

It's not a retreat because of the counter offensive. They chose to stop attacking the junta troops that fled to the border and were hiding under a bridge because they can do more damage by attacking the reinforcements heading towards Myawaddy from the west. By sticking to what they do best which is guerilla warfare they are less exposed to air strikes while also keeping the fight away the border which was making Thailand nervous.

#Observation to date shows: - National Army (aka Tat-ma-taw) started the War on wrong footing; that is, it decides to wage a War on the people (Citizens) it is supposed to protect.
The best STRATEGIC PRIORITY IN WINNING, IS FIRST THESE BGF MUST LAY DOWN THEIR ARMS TO ACCEPT AND CONSIDER NEUTRAL WITH BLUE & WHITE FLAGS... THEY ARE REQUIRED THESE BGF TO HIDE AND ASK , APPOINT KNLA, MNDAA, AA, KIA , CHIN NATIONAL ARMY , MNLA, PNLA , and Shan State Army AS THEIR PROTECTORS
Junta didn't recaptured Myawaddy. The KNLA retreated due to airstrikes and reorganized to meet and ambush the incoming counterattack from reinforcement convoy which is bigger threat than some battalion or what's left of it. You can see the state of them near thai borders with nowhere to run totally beaten. This is just betrayal from BGF or KNA Min Chit Thu giving security to junta for their photo op to cover up their shameful defeats to their followers. If Myawaddy has recapture, why are there's still fighting ongoing? Firepost is just spreading junta propaganda without doing research. If Myawaddy is stable again, people will be the first to move back. No need to listen to lobbyists or news media. Just watch what the local does, the fact that they're not going back means battle isn't over yet.
I don't know, judging this situation from soo far away here, but I feel that what you said is good strategic move. This is a good learning curve for Resistance group because they have not had captured such large trading city without support.
@@zinny999 Myawaddy was never in control by neither parties of Junta or KNU. It was always been hub of Cartels and BGF stronghold. All the drug trades and arms trades cross there. That's why junta is desparate to get it back with huge reinforcements convoys despite its risk when they lost it at first. Latest side switches from BGF Warlord Min Chit Thu caused this shift of balance in powers. BGF playing both sides for their interests in the region. Nevertheless, the show is far from over with more civilians suffering from results of heavy fightings. It will take at least another month or two with one side taking control after heavy losses or it will end in standstill.
@@zinny999 Also, there's a big question mark on whose control or leadership Myawaddy gonna be. Is it NUG or KNU? There's also politics infighting between Resistance also. KNU will not give NUG this strategic town and I'm sure as hell NUG don't wanna give up for sake of good faith or alliance. It's just complicated issues behind the scene.

Junta recapture "Technically" but that army unit is completely cut off from their friendly troops. The relieving reinforcement troops are stranded at 40km or so from border town and can't breakthrough the resistance forces. That border town has nearly 10 different factions involve in finicial and territorial interest. Junta troops deal with some of these factions and redeploy in their old base. But these guys are combat ineffective and completely cutoff, also at the mercy of these factions by rations and ammunitions.

It is a win to lose at the right time. Both pro Miltary armed groups protecting illegal businesses and rebel armed groups dwell in the same area. They are Karens. They have the second thought to fight against each other.
