@@Xehanort10 How do you get there without having the Ghostface's killing everyone or one of them not being revealed to the surviving characters but to the audience that would make sense and be satisfying to them? Unlike the other horror franchises the star isn't reliant on the killer but Sidney's character. This movie, for me at least, proves you can make a Scream movie with less Sidney but I don't know if you can ever kill her off without ending the franchise. Maybe get one where the killer kills everyone including Sidney then the sequel would be his next killing spree but is there legs in that kind of story? You're gonna have to create a killer that the audience will care about more than Sidney.

Awesome ranking. Fun fact about the lighting in scream 4: it was an intentional choice. Wes wanted to make it look like a reboot and change the atmosphere compared to the prior 3. While I think the lighting/glare was a bad choice, the reasoning makes me respect it a bit more.

My rankings are exactly the same as yours. Scream is my favorite franchise and I thought despite some nitpicks that Scream 5 lived up to the series and it was a fun time at the movies. I look forward to dissecting it after I’ve seen it more than once. I grew up watching the Friday the 13th marathons on USA up all night in the early 90s when I was like 12 years old. But when Scream came out I was 14 years old and it blew my mind. I saw it 5 times in the movies theater. It felt like a slasher for my generation. I’m so glad that the consistency has kept up with these movies.

Very happy to see someone rank Scream 1/2 as 1/2! Ranking Scream 2 in 4th or 5th in the series is insane: that movie has the best suspense and chase scenes of the franchise imo: the Sidney/Hallie car scene and Gale's chase scene on the sound room was epiccc. Also, Sidney's line to Mickey: "Well you're forgetting one thing about Billy Loomis...I fucking killed him" is one of the best lines/moments in the Scream franchise. Even Sidney's line to Ghostface at the sorority party was epic: "Why don't you show your face you fucking coward." I may just be biased towards Neve because she can deliver an epic line. But in this new Scream, Sam's character fell a little flat and at points corny for me sometimes. For example, one of her lines: "Maybe I was just buying some time fuckhead" to Ghostface (something like that) didn't really resonate as empowering or epic: it just seemed kinda cheesy.

    5. Scream 3: I don't hate it, I think some of the kills are awesome and and the final showdown is great, but the Maureen plot is iffy as is the voice thingy.
    4. Scream 2: the other four films are really close for me, but I put 2 here because I don't care about the killers and the new characters that much.
    3. Scream 5: awesome new entry, I loved this one. The meta can get too on the nose sometimes and they could've better fleshed out the new cast, but I love the characters and it made me hyped for this new phase of the franchise.
    2. Scream 4: I love the cast, that's it. The cast made the movie for me, the killers are amazing, Emma Roberts is insane on this and is endless rewatchable for me.
    1. Scream: my favorite movie of all time. Genre defying, game-changer, innovative, jump-started the teen slasher craze and revived horror. A classic.

    ALRIGHT!
    So my rank goes
1.) Scream obviously. I watched it when my Grandma was watching me when i was like 6 or 7, and she fell asleep and i watched it on tv and the intro scared me so bad because i felt like i was alone, and Sydney Prescott really made me feel like hey, if she can do it why can't i?
2.) Scream 5, idk it was just a fun watch for me, i've started not looking at trailers and it has gave me more surprises in movies and left me to enjoy them more. I loved Dewey and was genuinely upset when what happened to him happened to him. I know that Sidney and Gale seemed like they just phoned it in but i feel like they passed the torch, so no one gets upset with one or the other dying, but we won't have to see them again.
3.) Scream 4, I hated the overlay on the film, that made it look too smooth? it bothered me so much watching but i love the characters, particularly, Kirby, ofc, i can definitely see some narcissistic motherfuckers trying to kill people to get famous.
(honestly though, those two will flip flop for me, i liked them both but right now 5 is my favorite)
4.) Scream 2, when i first initially saw this, I laughed at it. I was very much afraid of horror movies when i saw this and my brothers, i remember even saying "hey look this one actually made her laugh!"
5.) Scream 3, just wasn't interesting to me, didn't make sense to me, and Gale looked terrible
i just said a fuck ton

You know what, i cant argue with any of the points here. My ranking is similar, in that i think 2, 4 and 5 are nearly identical in terms of quality. Here’s my ranking:
    1. Scream (1996) - A horror classic with a great plot, memorable characters and a genius director behind it all. Need i say more?
    2. Scream (2022) - This could change upon rewatch but I really liked this one. It’s a flawed but fun movie that pays tribute to Wes Craven in the best possible way.
    3. Scream 4 - Great use of legacy characters while also giving us a new supporting cast that are almost as memorable as those from the original. Also my favourite killer outside of Billy and Stu in Jill.
    4. Scream 2 - I enjoyed this one but certain parts just didn’t do it for me. For example, while i liked the reveal of Mickey as the killer, it was a shame that we hadn’t seen him for 45 mins or so before his reveal. Rewrites meant that at the time of shooting, anyone could have been the killer, so Wes Craven wasn’t able to get into the specifics of each Ghostface like how Billy and Stu hold their knives differently in the original.
    5. Scream 3 - The weakest of the 5, in most aspects, but still also fun and a decent Scream movie overall. Like Cody says, if this is the worst of your franchise then you don’t have a problem

Probably 1, 2, 4, 5, 3 for me. 1 was fantastic, great characters, frightening villains, and some great musical choices that the followups have really failed to match. I was more than a little disappointed by some of the choices for the legacy cast in 5, and Melissa Barrera's acting was definitely hit or miss, with most of the new supporting cast not being particularly memorable beyond their ties to other characters in the franchise. Richie was the exception, as I rather enjoyed his character, especially when compared to the other newcomers.

I agree that 3 isn’t as some people would have you believe. I also agree that the new characters are not very good (although I am a Posey fan in other things). For me the worst is deciding that Roman orchestrated Billy and Stu into killing Maureen. That’s just too much and it’s unnecessary.

I have the exact same ranking as you:
    1. Scream (10/10 - my favourite horror movie, one of the first horrors I had ever seen at 6 years old)
    2. Scream 2 (9/10 - As a kid I was so scared in the cop car scene - till this day my favourite scare scene of the franchise. I don't particularly like the killer reveals and the 3rd act drama set, but Mickey was a fun character)
    3. Scream 4 (9/10 - Very close to overtaking Scream 2. Jill was amazing as the killer. I wish they left in the deleted scenes of the teen cast at the water fountain talking about the killings and the scene at the hospital between Jill and Trevor - all this movie needed was a tad longer with the new cast)
    4. Scream 5 (8/10 - Loved this new edition. Didn't like the critics hyping this movie as 'being the best since the original' left me a little disappointed as I would have loved putting this movie in 2nd place)
    5. Scream 3 (7/10 - The most fun entry of the franchise. After re-watching this movie recently it was so ironic that this was produced by the Weinsteins, way ahead of its time with the 'casting couch' backstory. but hated how Roman's killer reveal undermined the killer reveals in the first movie).
For me with this new edition - Scream has now surpassed Nightmare on Elm street as my favourite horror franchise. Just can't deny the consistency and overall quality of the Scream movies!
