For us ancient old ABBA fans who were around during the groups ten years together, its fascinating and kind of awesome to watch someone who probably wasn't born when ABBA recorded their last song in 1982 making some very asstute observations and, obviously picking up quicker on how talented these four stars were back then when virtually none of the music critics of their era gave them any credit. Love it and it makes me feel justified in my love for this band.

In Sweden during the at least first half of the '70s music wasn't supposed to be commercial. Music should be political have a message about the society besides in general there were 3 music genre dominating. First so called Swedish dance bands, 2 "progg" meaning rock music with a clearly political message about the society. 3 Kinda obscure jazz-rock mixed with Swedish folk music. ABBA didn't fit any of those genre and made no secret that they wanted to become huge and successful. In Sweden we've been told that ABBA wasn't that big here but their albums all sold either gold or platinum.

I was one of those old ABBA fans that was around then too ….. This song has a special place for me as it mentions my hometown of Glasgow Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and I managed to see them there in 1979. Magical evening and really solidified my musical memories and my deepest wishes to be able to perform and it was the year I started to play clarinet at the tender age of 9…. Since then I’ve had so many wonderful musical performances at some really cool venues, the Barrowlands in Glasgow, Kings Theatre too. The Music College in Helsinki and then on through Sweden Denmark and Norway finishing at the Valhall in Oslo ….. Can’t wait to go see them next year at the ABBA arena in London !!!! 🎵🐾🎷🎼🎶🥃🥃🤘🤘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️❤️🥃🥃🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 NMHRK

One important aspect of this song that is blatantly in the lyrics but sometimes overlooked is that she is able to continue to perform BECAUSE the love of her life is in the audience. She can get through performing, the late nights, the endless tour bus travel, because her love will be there supporting her when it comes time to be on stage. Having fans doesn't heal one's loneliness. Having a love of your life is what heals that loneliness, the love she has for him and him for her, that keeps her career of a performer going strong. It's one of the most romantic songs ever written!
From an analytical perspective, the lyrical structure of this song is amazing. The first half of the chorus utilizes rhyming. The second half of the chorus utilizes alliteration. (1st half: LIGHTS are gonna FIND me SHINING LIKE the SUN, SMILING having FUN, feeling LIKE a number ONE; 2nd half: BEAM are gonna BLIND me, BUT I won't feel BLUE.)

    • @bobtrouper

Super super nice to see them back together again - sounds just as great as they always have :). My best bet is that the tickets to their London concert will be sold within 2 minutes. One of the 2 greatest songs from Abba.
If I had to save only 2 songs from Abba's catalog from total erasure, I would surely save "Super Trouper" 2nd
[and "Gimme ! Gimme ! Gimme ! (A Man After Midnight) would surely be 1st] They're the best energetic and feel good songs there are ! :)
As a kid at the age of 8 at school, all my class did a special choreography on "Super Trouper" (when I didn't knew who Abba were then). We did it at the end of the school year and in front of all our parents in a stadium.
We all wore white shorts, socks and snickers waving color ribbons in the air (red, green, yellow and blue). My sister in the audience said it was beautiful (we practiced for 3 months before doing that).
"Super" good times and memories. So that song will always have a special place in my heart, just because of that.
Plus it's an amazing song of course.

This has been one of my favorite songs once I connected the title with the spot light. Super Trooper is a type of spot light (not sure if it's a type or a brand). My father had a part time job as a stage hand working lights and sound etc at the big civic center in the town where I grew up, and one day after listening to this song, it occurred to me that in a conversation with the others on his light crew, I heard him say "....and that will leave us two to work the super troupers..." and I thought, duh! super trooper = spot light.

Super Trouper was the second single from the album Super Trouper after The Winner Takes It All.
Super Trouper was actually the very first 7"single I ever bought aged 9years old in early December1980 (The Piper as b-side)
Super Trouper was ABBA's recognition of their fans loyalty making every fan feel special "but I won't feel blue cause somewhere in the crowd there's you".
Yeah, its interesting Super Trooper was the last track to be written and recorded from the album as an afterthought really; wonder what single would've been released if Super Trouper hadn't materialised?
Super Trouper spend three at No.1 UK chart and would've stayed there longer if it hadn't been for John Lennon's death nudging the re-release of Imagine replacing Super Trouper at the No.1 spot.
