Because of the way the draft works, the NFL has traditionally sent the top QB's or RB's to the worst teams. Then the kids get the shit kicked out of them because they're on terrible teams. Some survive. Some don't. Trevor Lawrence is a perfect example. If he went directly to a good team, he might be breaking records.

The problem is, it's "easy" for some players to dominate in college against inferior players who will never play in the league and who aren't paid. How is he a bust? We can call him a bust if Jaguars can actually build a "proper" team around him and they still lose every season. Like Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence is the victim of having a trash o-line and mediocre defense his entire career.

Trevor finished 6th last season in MVP voting.
This season he was playing behind the worst o-line in football in regards to pass protection and the second worst in regards to the run game. The receivers were constantly running the wrong routes, dropping touchdowns or having balls go off their hands that resulted in interceptions. He was trying to do everything he could. Every defense knew they could run, so they just teed off on Trevor or dropped 8 in coverage most of the time.

First things first. This team has made many draft selections and free agent signings sense signing TL. How dare anyway say, “Lawrence and Peterson changed the team”. The addition of new, high caliber players always seems to go unnoticed by fans hyping a qb. Please stop!?

    • @doublemode4088

First and foremost, Lawrence has been the best Jaguars QB since the 1990's, and second and foremost, you can't say that any of our new players have made more of a cultural difference than Lawrence. Peterson and Lawrence have changed the expectations in Jacksonville and that led to more players wanting to play in Jacksonville. Besides, half of our "new drafted players" often go to other teams because of the culture. Think of Leonard Fournette, Jalen Ramsey, D.J. Clark and many more. Jacksonville has become relevant in the NFL for the first time in forever because of Peterson and Lawrence and the culture they put in that led to more high-caliber players wanting to play for Jacksonville.@@thomasbrown6000

@@thomasbrown6000 I do agree that Lawrence has his negatives, he throws a lot of interceptions and he can be a part of why Jacksonville loses games. However that also could be due to the awful coaching Lawrence had with Urban Meyer and it may take a bit for Lawrence to reach his peak because of that awful first year. Here's the thing though, we don't have another plan at QB. We could trade up and get a rookie quarterback in this draft, which is a hit or miss. We could get a QB from free agency or from a massive trade, but it doesn't seem like Jacksonville is in a rush to reach the Super Bowl this year. I say we give Lawrence one more year, then we can talk about if Lawrence is really the guy or not.

What I've noticed is that "experts" don't seem to understand level of competition. An average QB can look pretty good when you are playing on an elite level team. It is a very big thing in college where there is great disparity between teams. You have to do things like watch how long he holds onto the ball and will that fly in the NFL? Like with Young in South Carolina. Just because you do well playing for a stacked college team doesn't mean you will have a chance in the pros. Stroud is a pocket passer with insane accuracy and a strong arm. He makes great reads and decisions. He won the division for a team that wasn't expected to go anywhere. Yet Lawrence fails to delivery playing for a team that was expected to win the division. Of course we know by now that he fell short and the Jags missed the playoffs.

Like it or not, I fail to see Lawrence becoming a bench warmer the same way we have seen guys like Christian Ponder, Sam Bradford, Andy Dalton have become.
