BRABUS fans, we’ve got you with this one!
We’ve brought Mark McCann along with his BRABUS GLE 850, and he’s about to face off against the cheapest BRABUS you can buy - and it’s a Smart #1!
So let’s see how the two stack up. Starting with the GLE, it’s packing an almighty 6-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 850hp and 1,450Nm of torque. It’s pretty heavy, mind, coming in at 2,350kg, and its power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
And then we have the Smart #1. It’s equipped with two electric motors, and these combine to produce 428hp and 584Nm. In terms of weight, lighter than the GLE, although it’s still a bit heavy. It tips the scales at 1,900kg.
So it’s a £44,000 BRABUS vs a £180,000 BRABUS. Will it be an easy win for the EV? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

We need to see a dyno run on that GLE
Either they are lying, or the output power of the engine through the gearbox and half-shaft to the wheels and rollers of the Dynamometer show different results, some gearboxes know how to "suffocate", "eat" 20% of the engine's power

When measuring engine power expressed in HP and torque in NM on rollers, they must indicate whether only engine power is expressed, or power on the wheels. I know that very powerful cars have losses in the gearbox

My lowly 2012 Audi A7 with 3.0 s/c engine ( ZF8 trans) ran 12.2 with a 034 Stg 1 tune. I now run on E40 tune and pulleys and run low 11s. Not super fast but very quick for 4300lbs

I saw another comment saying it doesn’t have the genuine Brabus air filters, if it has the wrong filters it could be restricting air flow heavily which might be part of the reason for its poor performance, it also doesn’t sound the same as other GLE 850’s 🤷♂️
@@Offensivebeast It definitely does NOT sound like brabus GLE.. In brabus videos you can clearly see the front of the car going up massively when accelerating.. this one doesn't even move.
@@littletommy69 yeah I remembered watching that video a few years ago, would be a shame if this one turns out to be a fake, there’s a huge thing with fake Brabus’s especially 850’s for some reason.

Not a chance this has 850bhp. A standard GLE 63s should do a standing 1/4 mile in 12.5 according to a quick search, with 585bhp. This is either broken, or maybe isn’t a real brabus 😮

Odd how the 850 went 12.4 when my stock 18' Gle 63s went a best of 12.36@113 but always ran mid 12.40s @111-112 at sea level on pump gas (93) wiht a DA of 1800. I have seen tune only gle63's run 11.7s with an increase of 70 rwhp...some of that was reprogramming of the shifts
There's definitely something not right with Mark's car. There's no way it has 850hp and especially 1400nm of torque lol. He should get it checked from brabus otherwise they are in trouble for false advertising.
Probably the lack of maintenance.... It seems like he is not putting much TLC into his cars....
since he bought it used we don't know how the first owner treated it... I don't think Brabus will get in trouble for this one

Hundred kilos wouldn't make that much of difference, for 850hp it should be wet faster even with that weight.
Even the American Jeep Trackhawk with basically almost zero engineering and a lot of wheel spin does better than that.
These Brabus guys need to be sued if they really didn't put 850hp while they're claiming it

There is a carwow dragrace video with a gle 63s from 8 month ago where it completed the 1/4 mile in 12.2 seconds.
That's supposed to have 612 hp and 850nm of torque so the Brabus here isn't make the advertised horsepower for sure

That’s a different gen of GLE, which has a much better gearbox and if I’m not mistaken mild hybrid technology, this 850 doesn’t sound right though, could be a fake Brabus.
@@Offensivebeast True, I didn't pay attention to that. From what I could find, in stock form that gle has a 1/4 mile time quoted at around 12.5 seconds

In a previous video by carwow that GLE 850 brabus in wet condition did a 12.8sec 1/4 mile. Now it did in 12.4sec but in rolling race now it seemed like it has lack of performance or maybe Smart is super fast or something 😂
That Mercedes has something seriously wrong. It doesn't move like the numbers suggest... That Smart tho. Really surprised me!

Smart is working as expected, pretty great numbers. But Brabus is broken, it performed like a 2.0L 4cyl

There’s a huge thing with fake Brabus cars, genuine ones have been seen out performing their claimed performance figures, and from the GLE 850’s I’ve heard, this one doesn’t sound the same, I’ve a feeling it’s not a genuine example.

No way near 1400torque either lol - Even weighing 2350, would've moved quicker or caught up easily. That is *alot* of torque for 850bhp (Claimed, anyway)
Please update us on the Brabus. Something is defective there. No way it has 850 HP. It probably has less than the GLE63 AMG originally had.

Can’t have 850hp and 1,450Nm. The Mk8 Golf R does the 1/4 mile in 12.3 seconds, with 320hp and 420Nm (claimed).
They dyno tested the Golf R on this channel and the results were 325hp and 478Nm.
If that GLE850 really has those figures, it should not be slower than a hatchback that is down on power by 62% and down on torque by 68%. And these are crank figures. The weight difference between the Brabus and Volkswagen is not enough for the Volkswagen to overcome the power difference.

The BRABUS smart is really fast but i’m confident that the gle BRABUS 850 would definitely win if it’s a longer track even without the speed limiter in the smart. Although something might be wrong with the engine though cause it’s kind of slow
Well said " it's not the machine that makes u win the race , its the driver who makes it" & as Matt said that brabus isn't making 800 hp, its nearly about 500-600ish and Maan that thing doesn't have 1440+ torque also , this seems like "All show No Go"😅
Seemed like he had 400bhp max, maybe the service warning has reduced it as a reliability measure. It has to be something like that as 850 would destroy the EV.
any car that says service required on dash would not put a car in limp mode
but its possible that the ECU limits its total poweroutput due to the service warning. It isnt per say limp mode but some sort of preventative option until the dealer or somebody with a port and laptop deletes it@@mightywatcher5894

Is Mark absolutely positive this thing ever saw the Brabus factory? At this point, dyno or not, you should race it with a stock AMG version. I wouldn't be surprised it this thing got smashed.
It doesn’t sound the same as the genuine GLE 850’s either, Brabus usually gives you some paper work with the car to say it’s a genuine model, but that could’ve been forged too unfortunately, and the genuine cars often outperform claimed figures too, I hope there’s just something wrong with it because it would be a shame if he got scammed.

No way this is 800hp. During the rolling race, just looking at the speedo tells the truth... It's in km/h, and it seems to struggle to rise after 160, that's insane 😱

I am pretty sure the GLE doesn't have the 850hp kit. I just watched MercBenzKings review of a Brabus GLE 850. The one shown in his video has a golden plaque with 850 on it in big red numbers and Brabus air filters. At 1:37 I can't see air filters or big red numbers on Marks GLE. He really has to dyno it
it also doesn’t sound quite the same as other GLE 850’s, it might be a fake, the differences in plagues might be a optional thing, but if it is a genuine car, it could have the wrong air filters which might be restricting air flow at a huge rate in respect to its poor performance.
Don't know if that's optional but the interior is regular AMG as well? There's no Brabus stitching on the seats. This honestly looks like someone took a GLE63 and slapped some Brabus plastics on it.
@@bomnatz7581 a lot of Brabus vehicles don’t get the interiors done unfortunately, but you can option the cars pretty much anyway you want, it does give the impression tho that this might be a fake.

Because that car definitely doesn’t have a 6.0L 850hp engine in it. Even with standard driveline losses of 10-20% he should have easily beat the Smart.
12.4 is basically what a stock GLE63 does to the 1/4, so something’s going on

They do limit the max torque to 1,000 from the 1,450 the engine can produce, but this one doesn’t seem right at all.

I think the GLE, for whatever reason, is in limp mode producing minimal boost. It‘s basically a n/a engine with an asthmatic blowing air into it.

Yep. With that kind of power, it would be spinning the tires through the quarter mile. I'd be surprised if that car makes more than 500 at the moment.
No. It would not. Look at those tires and the car is heavy as fuck. 850 hp would not let it spin its tires. I've watched this car (in healthy condition) doing drag races in germany and it did not spin its tires one time.
The stock one makes 585hp and does a little slower time
