    I had crazy good luck with this combination as well. czcams.com/video/JngUOFQOMlo/video.html The funnel video is here if anyone is interested. czcams.com/video/sc5S8gub30g/video.html It is certainly the right tool for Reloder 26. I love this bullet / powder combo, it is extremely effective on deer. Great video as usual.

    I went to a gunshop that sold custom Bows and made arrows. I had them take a 12" arrowshaft, flare the end, then epoxied this in the end of the powder funnel, this dramatically dropped powder level.
    Also, Johnny, while you have the funnel still on the case, tap the case with a pencil...get ready for a shock.
    Primers made a tremendous difference with R#26 depending on the case. CCI 250 and Federal 215's often get the very best accuracy and low Standard Deviation.
    For guys shooting a Rem 700, have the gunsmith install a Wyatts mag box that gives an additional .125 in OAL, it is a life saver.
    When loading up rounds with compressed loads, I will usually seat long, then seat them as I need them, loading 100 rounds at a time, bullets do seem to creap out over time. Rockwell hardness does vary over a lot# of brass, thus the grip on the bullet will vary somewhat on brass with the softer Rockwell hardness.

  • @sylviacandler5541
    @sylviacandler5541 Před rokem

    Primers are very, very important, and they can produce very different group size and velocities. R#26 loves a cci 250 and a Federal 215 primer in this case. I reload at the rifle range, work up my best powder charge, then change seating depths, then switch out Primers, tiny bug holes are the result. While the Small rifle primer case has a stronger case head, sometimes the Extra fire of the large rifle primer is needed. IN the case of the Creedmoor with small rifle primers, I would only opt for a CCI 450 or a Tula Small rifle magnum primer and Pray.
    I use a 10" drop tube on cases with a lot of powder in them, and have made longer drop tubes out of Arrow Shafts.
    Johnny, your video's are great.

    Loading a powder that takes up the case capacity I take the funnel and offset under the powder measure. It swirls in. Then in the load block, which are wood, u take and jiggle them until they are all the same. I also at times use a long drop tube. I use redding benchrest powder measure. Works for me. The other issue you should check on very compressed load, it might rebound the bullet out some.

    I’ve shot this powder, brass, primer and bullet combination quite extensively out of a 26” bbl custom rifle. Your results are fairly consistent with my experience, insofar as where u saw the accuracy Node at about 2900 fps. In my 26” bbl, it’s running 100 fps faster at 3000-3010fps, about 25 fps per inch of bbl with sub 0.50 MOA accuracy. The chamber, particularly, the free bore was cut 0.188” with a non SAAMI Match chamber reamer, which is somewhat shorter than MINIMUM SAAMI specs. With this in mind, I found the seating depth “sweet spot,” was 0.015” ogive jump to lands. Further in my rifle the RL-26 load was 48.0 gr. I suspect the one (1.0gr) lower charge than the 49.0gr load in your 22” bbl rifle is due primarily to the press. increase caused by my load’s close proximity to lands (0.015”). In conclusion u should find accuracy nodes at both

      @franklemoine8484 Před 6 lety

      (Cont.)
      ...at or very near both 2800 and 2900 fps. I further recommend u try a 0.010” to 0.015” jump to lands, and if so, lower your charge by a 1 gr. or as much as is necessary to keep velocity in close proximity to the 2800 or 2900 fps Node velocity, whichever u may choose.

    • @JohnnysReloadingBench
      @JohnnysReloadingBench  Před 6 lety

      YES! I'm still trying to wrap my head around that. We see it A LOT. I think the standard deviation numbers from 5 shot groups are only really good when taken as a group. Like, in this video...it was obvious that AR-Comp was displaying more consistent velocity than Accurate 2520. It was clearly a trend. But I am hesitant to say that the SD number we get after 5 shots would stay the same if we shot 50 of them. I bet that crappy number on that one AR-Comp load would drop with a larger sample size.

I started and stopped at 48. as I got flat primers and ejection marks but I also got 2930fps!!! I’m dropping it to 47 and if it looks good 47.5. I only shoot 3 shot groups and it printed MOA. I’m thinking that a little slower will make for an outstanding deer/hog/coyote load!

    135 grain bullets are too light for RL26. I recommend using 147 or 150 grain projectiles. RL26 also burns much hotter and you should allow more time for the barrel to cool. One of the forums stated the flame is twice as hot as RL17. The smoke was from using bullets which were too light.

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 Před 6 lety

      If you send a message to the bullet company usually they have data for more powders but only print the best grouping and most efficient powders in there manuals. It should be a good place to start for data. Also you could see if anyone you know has a program like quick load or there are others that predict the performance of different powders in different cases. several writers use these programs to do the same thing you are trying to do.

    On the velocity printouts are the lower numbers ES or SD? If repeatable, interesting that 49.3 gave the tightest group, yet with not the tightest ES/SD. Barrel harmonics. I believe that harmonics may not always align with best SD and this is an example of that. A good node on my 22" barrel is produced at 2857 sd 9.5, with 48.3gr. GM210, range gathered Hdy brass, FL sized of course. (When using brass fired in another rifle you should ALWAYS FL size the first time you reload it!)

    Just a thought... With most of my rifles, they absolutely HATE the Magnetospeed bayonet being on there. I've seen many many many times that the rifles will shoot much much tighter groups without the MS. I generally will only use it to get my Avg Speeds, SD, and ES, then go back and shoot another group without the bayonet to see what the real group will actually be. Just my opinion, but I would suggest going back out and shooting without the MS now that you know average velocities. (Im deep into ballistics, and barrel harmonics is probably my #1 per peeve)

    • @jameskozlowski5496
      @jameskozlowski5496 Před 6 lety

      Slammed305 with the can on the end and the thin barrel having the magnetospeed on the end as well will Definitely give false data. Now that he has his velocities for charge weight he needs to repeat the test again without the magnetospeed to look for any changes then go from there. With that pencil barrel I would shoot no more then 3 shots before a 5 minute cool down at least.

Then load up 20 more + or-.05 and mix them up and shoot two more ten round groups. See if it makes a difference you can tell. My feeling is too many people shooting at 1 and 2 hundred yards are obsessing over what you cannot see.

    That magnetospeed hung off your barrel affects accuracy. Try shooting for accuracy without it.

    Today, using 49 grains of RL26 behind a 143 ELDx I got 2892 FPS, and sub MOA accuracy. 3 FPS ES and 1.6 SD. I imagine this was a fluke and more testing is required. Tikka T3x lite stainless, hornady brass, CCI250, and a LabRadar

      I was using a 143 ELDx, out of a Tikka T3x lite stainless with a 24.3" barrel. I shot this load over a Labradar. verified it 2 or 3 times. blew my mind..... another tenth i would be at 2900 with a 143 in a 6.5CM.... go figure@@kencleg7721

    I have to ask, would you feel comfortable using this powder with other bullets? The 129 Accubond LR or the 120 Barnes TTSX? And what about using LR primer brass?

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 Před 6 lety

      gsitzkowitz large primer brass won't be as strong in the case head, that's why they've made small primer brass.

    • @geneitzkowitz4710
      @geneitzkowitz4710 Před 6 lety

      jimhans1 ? Moparnadman ran the same test with LR brass and exceeded the max using Fed 210m.

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 Před 6 lety

      Gene Itzkowitz I know, but for how MANY loadings?? The small primer pockets have proven to be stronger in higher pressure loads to help withstand pocket and head expansion. That's WHY Lapua did them from the beginning and Starline followed due to people asking for that. It's all to do with having extra material to beef up the casehead. The ballistics between the two sizes will be negligible at most, but longevity of brass is better with the small primer pockets.

    • @gsitzkowitz
      @gsitzkowitz Před 6 lety

      I completely agree with you! However in my case running an AR, case life will be shorter due to the need to full length size after every firing. My concern is safety. I'm not sure the primer size will make much difference.

    • @jimhans1
      @jimhans1 Před 6 lety

      gsitzkowitz you don't need to full length resize just because it's a semi :) you can adjust your resizing die to just allow cases to chamber then bump shoulder another .001-.002" and be good for your gun. That's what I do in my AR Creeds and my AR Grendels. Have not had a failure to feed or chamber yet in them
