    I have to say I LOVE my 6.5 Compass and have shot some really good groups with IMR4451(couldn't find the mythical H4350), also had good results with Hodgdon Hybrid 100V. Finally got a pound of the H4350 and loaded 50 with the Hornady 140gr Match but have not been to the range yet.. Just ordered a Faxon 18 inch 308 barrel so should be able to follow you on the 308 videos... looking forward to that series! Thank you Johnny for all your work with these series I know that this is very time consuming, but you do such a great job and I really look forward to watching them.

    Yup. Ready for the .308 vids. Mine will be done in about 2 weeks, getting my 20" BA premium series barrel flutted and ceracoated now and fixing to order a 15" Midwest Industries suppressor ready handguard to have waiting for return of the barrel. Also have a nephew doing a build as well will get an 18" BA barrel.

    For long range precision shooting , I anneal my brass every second firing. Keeps ES and SD nicecand tight. With those bullets I use Reload Swiss 62 which is almost identical in energy and burn rate and density to h4350. Using small primer brass I shoot 2600 fos with half moa groups and low sd with a 140sst and 42.6gr RS62 or 44gr RS62 and a 139 scenar for 2700fps and SD of 10.

Great shooting on your part as well as reloading process. Thanks for the videos man I know they’re a lot of work time and money but many people sure do appreciate it. Til next time! 🍻

    Great video. I second what you said about group sizes and SDs not matching up very often. My 7mm-08 load consistently runs at opposites. The most consistent velocities align with the largest groups, and vice versa.

    Looks like 4451 is working out quite well in the accuracy dept. Velocity though needs a boost to send it over the top if accuracy can be as stable as seen here. I also believe maybe your eyes are getting tired as the day goes on, I take that into account with the loadings with Re-22 witnessed in his video. I know that you are trying to compress "As I mentioned in the close of the last Video, This video is a completion of the combined, Please Play both in one Meeting". You work hard at providing the best content Johnny, It is considered in the accuracy you show as results in your findings. Keep up the Good work. It IS appreciated. Dave.

    You ran much higher charges of the RL22 in that brass than I could ever hope for. I found that the Starline brass has much thicker walls and as such, the compressed loads in comparison to Hornady brass. At 46.0 grains, with 140 grain Berger VLDs, I can load the Hornady brass and attain 2800fps without pressure signs. With the Starling brass, I am loading 42.0 grains and getting 2700fps before signs of pressure. Now, I am using the two different loadings in two different rifles and have tailored the loads to the individual rifle, and the rifle using the starline brass does seem to have a tighter chamber and is more prone to generating higher pressures.

    For what it's worth, my favorite powder with the CZ 550 in 6.5 X 55 Swedish is Re22 with Federal 215's and Hornady brass. Several bullet types have worked ok. It can shoot 1-1.25 moa, but I've never been able to break through to a smaller group. I've gotten to about 5/8 with both a .22 K Hornet and .300 Win. Mag., but just can't get there with the Swede. Hopefully, some of your Creedmoor ideas will help me with my efforts since the ballistic performance is virtually identical. Thanks for your videos. You are one of my top three gun bloggers.

  • @ShawnSon40
    @ShawnSon40 Před 6 lety +1

    I love to see the sub-10 standard deviations! I think you need to find some reloader 16, I am getting standard deviations of 3-6 FPS at 2920fps with 43 grains of RL 16 under 143 ELD-X out of my browning 26” Creedmoor. the accuracy wasn’t super exceptional I was getting ~0.9” at 100 yards, but at the velocities I was seeing I am not going to complain. I’m loving the Creedmoor videos!

  • @mouzetrap
    @mouzetrap Před 3 lety

    I absolutely love your videos, very well done and informative. Keep up the great work.
    The only thing that drives me crazy lol...is how you are keeping track of your loads. Maybe you have them marked and I can’t see it. But when I am doing load development, I always use a sharpie to write the charge on the side of the brass, that way I don’t mix them up while loading, shooting and afterwards for the amazing box of brass primer check part haha.
    You can also color the ogive of the bullets and they will leave colored witness marks on white paper for ladder type tests. This works great at the longer yardages.
    Anyways, thanks again for the great videos. God bless,
    Jarrod

    Hey Johnny with this 140gr bullet I noticed you used rl 17, 22 and 26 but you skipped rl19. My pet load with these hornady 140 bthp match bullets is 46.5 grains of 19 seated at 2.810 using hornady brass with cci large rifle primers. 2765fps and it shot 0.4 MOA at 100 yards out of my ruger American predator. Funny thing is I used .5 grain increments starting from 45 grains and all the groups were under .7 MOA and the point of impact hardly shifted. SD was 7.5 fps.

      Like you saw in the video IMR4451 started falling apart at higher velocities. In F-Class I don't really care what the velocity is, as long as it's absolutely consistent and the gun shoots the same EVERY TIME. I did that at the specs I shared above.

    For the 4451 groups of 41.6 and 41.9, it would be nice to see the grouping at 2 or 300 yards. At that range the groups will open a bit and we could see which group stays tighter.
    Also, you seem to always get a first shot shift (cold rifle), maybe a bedding job might help with that. Not really a big deal if your not hunting with it.

    Hey Johnny, love the channel! I would really enjoy hearing your opinion about dies. Not even limited to one specific cartridge, more just in general. What do you like about each of the manufacturers? Also, its sometimes tough to open them up in the store and look at what they'll be like before you buy them, so maybe some up close shots of a variety of sizing / seating dies. Would you always just buy a box set of dies, or are there situations when you would choose them separately? Obviously a lot of that info has been covered bit by bit in previous videos, but I think having it all in one place would be helpful to me and others when looking at which dies to buy.

    Why is Standard Deviation considered so magical? The best groups were shot with the worst SD in each powder. I agree that consistent velocity from shot to shot would imply bullet strikes in the same spot. But I don't experience that. Some other factor(s) must be at play! I find that Extreme Spread is more indicative of accurate groups.

    Johnny, youtube has change its policies to prohibit videos on the manufacturing of guns and ammunition. I was wondering if you were aware of this and I hope that you're wonderful videos are backed up.

    Why would the impact points drop with RL22 as the velocity increases?

    Those were some awesome groups with the 4451! But the big question is will those groups remain that size once you take the magneto-speed off the muzzle? I bet those groups would disperse a bit.

    JRB Nice groups! Have you tried a dry fire when you first start shooting? This may help eliminate the cold first shot flyer, or identify it. Nice job brother!

    You do realize that the chronograph is messing with the barrel harmonics?

    Hey Johnny have you got an alternative platform in mind for when the new CZcams rules kick in?

    Would love to see your tests duplicated without the use of a silencer and chronograph hanging off the end of the barrel. I am a firm believer in dialing in loads to meet barrel harmonics and I just don't see how that would be possible with the silencer and chronograph having outside influences on the barrel harmonics.

      If you’re going to use the rifle with the suppressor, wouldn’t it make sense to develop your load with it in place? Understood about the chronograph though.

    Wow impressive what you did with that 4451 never would have expected this! I wonder how your rdf would end up since you stopped before 41 last time! Maybe give it another try? ;P
