Actually there is a way around that. That could make the caves visitable and the place some money. Do the same thing they do when they do underwater walkthroughs. (Yes would cost a bit to build but I think it would historically be worth it) Basically is building a clear plastic or glass tube which could be open at both ends outside cave. It could be oxygenated and fans installed. Would secure cave from co2 yet allow people 2 view paintings. Not to mention in addition a clear tunnel would secure anyone from taking souvenirs or damaging walls. Just an idea

there was build a replica of the lascaux cave which is extremely similar. And you can easily go there. And visiting Easter Island is also pretty easy.

i used to work in a hospital (now demolished) which used to be a victorian asylum. you had to have special permission (which i luckily got) and i wasn't allowed to photograph it. but there were undergound wards. it was like the inside of a cathederal. but absolutely no windows or natural light there. the wards were like a prison. there were two wards there that i remember. they were the 'syphillis ward' and the 'idiot ward'. the doors had little hatches at the bottom where they used to feed their patients and just a little spy-hole that they could glimpse out of. it was so eerie as you could imagine the smell and cries that came from it.

i live in venice and it’s not actually forbidden to visit poveglia, you can do it anytime if you have your own boat & if you wanna travel with a taxi boat you need to ask for a specific permission 10 months in advance. it’s a bit of a journey but anyone can do it

You can make a day trip of it to Easter Island if you want, and have a choice of hotels if you want to stay on the island. Fly in on the morning plane, and out on the red eye... My little sister lives in New Smyrna Beach, FL, can't recall any recent fatal shark attacks, plenty of them off the coast north of San Francisco.
