You are absolutely right, Kabru has the characteristics (and the back story) of the TYPICAL fantasy anime hero.
1. Pretty guy: check
2. Tragic backstory: check
3. Good and flashy fighter: check (monsters excluded)
4. Great with people: check
The author specifically put him in so we compare Laios with him.
Kabru is meant as a foil to Laios. While Laios is super into monsters and knowledgeable about them while not being interested in the least in humans, Kabru is very keen on humans and social interaction at expense of monster knowledge or actual proficiency in traversing the dungeon. Very interesting pair of characters indeed :)

So yeah, Kabru is good at killing people and analyzing them, but not with monsters.
